With the subs I am and I live in the Gold Coast region and if I do win I cannot use the zerek but I can use the Savage gear mullet swim and my biggest flathead is 99.5cm
I was just up from Sydney at Woy Woy and we were staying with some friends after going to Sydney and they live on the canals. They were both into piloting and didn't really fish but they had an old fishing rod in the shed and old rusty hook I just wanted to fish so I caught some baby prawns in the barnicles of the canal "pier" and to my suprize I caught a 35-40cm flatty. Not big but it has a good story I don't know how it saw the small prawn but it must have gone for the reflection of the hook in the sun. I don't know if this still counts for the competition because it wasnt big or caught on a softy or swimbait but its a good story I will never forget. I was 13 at the time I'm 15 now still fishing.

Pinned and landed at 72cm dusky on 8lb, slow rolling a 7 inch Zerek flat shad inbetween shallow weed beds. An experience that's been hard to beat.

Awesome vid Sammy Hitzke, great to see Nick Whyte still gets excited when he catches a big girl after the sheer numbers he’s caught over the years. Got me pumped to give swimbaiting a go that’s for sure. My biggest lure caught Flattie to date for the comp, a 94cm model caught on a Pearl Blue Glimmer 3” Zman MinnowZ up at Millionaires row near The Pin at the Classic a few years ago, I did get a 98cm years ago in the Tweed but that was on live bait so doesn’t count, LOL. My best flathead, a few years ago, is just over 80cm caught in the Nelligen river on a live poddy mullet, released without harm. Beautiful fish in a beautiful location near some oyster leases. Great memories for ever and just what fishing is about.
i fish there a lot that fish would be over a metre now if it’s still swimming around 👍👍

Just a baby 63cm in the canals on a old green yabbie when i first got into plastic, yet to pop the cherry on the big baits though.

my biggest went 85cm, on a pilchard cube !!! after 1000s of casts of everything from paddle tail and wriggler plackies. never any luck! looks like i've gotta try out these swim baits!

Great ep Sammy. Was fishing with a little live mullet, a fish was on but spat it, only had a bit of flesh and the tail left on the hook so threw it back down and landed my best flathead, 77cm, such and awesome trip.

My biggest flatty was caught near Jumpinpin, about 3 weeks ago on a Zman 4” Diesel Minnow. 71 cm and so solid. I was just cruising past a small creek mouth that was flowing out with the run out tide over a shallow sand bank. I thought to myself, there just HAS to be a flatty sitting there. Second cast with a slow roll and bang, new PB. I was stoked. Have just started surface fishing for Flathead with Slapstix, but haven’t tried a glide bait yet. Would absolutely love to win this man. Hey Sammy, I caught a 65cm flattie drifting in the Gold Coast seaway with a live Pike. Actually thought I was snagged until I got it up and saw the flattie floating there. Was actually drifting for Jewfish. But what a awesome bycatch.
hooked but not landed on a live bait maroochy river. Was to big (wide) to get head in a twenty liter bucket, as i had no net and was on my own land based off a rock wall. soooo devo. LOVE LOVE LOVE your work.
BIGGEST FLATTY COMP - biggest flat head was late afternoon while fishing the rock walls located in Bunbury W.A Australia. un-waited mullie with gang hooks chasing tailor only to hook up on a lizard topping a very small 17cm. this was my first ever flatty and honestly never thought they were located in these areas. let the little fella go :) even tho this small lizard wasn't my target species, i was smiling all the way home :)
Iv heard about bigger ones caught south of were I was fishing in smaller inlets but havnt had much luck......now iv seen this video, I'm now going to try a different approach... THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP AND TIPS.

What a video mate! My best was a 52cm on a Savage gear mpp2 baitcaster with 10lb braid in a Shimano slx150 to a savage gear 3.5inch nuclear chicken shrimp.

Nice Sammy yep big flatties love the glide baits, biggest for me was 73cm on a Zman 4inch paddle tail in motor oil and next was 68cm on 2.5 in crawz also motor oil both of the flats and shallow mud banks in the passage.. awesome fun and lots of casts but it pays off.

Hey Sammy, great video! My biggest flathead was 87cm and it took me by surprise while hopping a savage 3D shrimp along a weedy edge at one of my local fishing spots. Those savage 3D shrimps have caught me plenty of good fish! Keen to give these glide baits a crack to see if I can top my PB with a real 🐊! 😎🎣
Caught my biggest flathead on a micro jig ahaha. I was jigging a small little jig in a bait school in about 15 foot of water and this flathead smashed the jig just as it hit the bottom. Haha the fish ended up going 75cm which is not the biggest flatty in the world but was certainly a surprise on a jig. Haha cheers Sammy and thanks for the awesome content

Only just started fishing again been going to a local boat ramp and practicing lures/rigging/casting with several different setups. Caught a 34cm flattie on a burkley shrimp soft plastic 2 weeks ago.
Great video once again Sammy. My biggest so far is 83cm on the 95 Diawa Double clutch, Lazer Ayu. Such an adrenaline rush. Giddy Up!

Caught a 45cm tailor, 44cm flathead and a 82cm flathead within 15mins of each other on a $5 dollar savage gear diving lure at jumpinpin. With the big girl being captured with 2 glamour fisheries ladies watching on jetski's! Won't forget that day.
my biggest flathead would be the 65cm one that i caught on a good ol prawn and hook, was a young chap got bored didnt fish for a couple hours just annoying dad and his mate then decide to have 1 last cast and there it was waiting for me. Such a great video sammy you legend
Hey ledgand.... 67cm last Friday down at the entrance. Was using a samaki whitebait vibe. This thing smashed it on the drop in about 1.6m of water. Love catching these fish 🐟🐟🐟🤞🤞🤞🤞🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙

Hey Sammy 90cm is my personal best on a kayak. on a Zman 4inch Diesel...Same day I dropped a metre plus doing netting where the Double Clutch lure got caught on the net and gone. also caught 8 other all above 70cm on the same day and area could say it was a great day. cheers

Great vid. PB is a 54 on a soft plastic. I've been wanting to try swim baits for flatties but finding it hard to get lures in the local shops.
I live in the desert so dont get alot of flatties but last month my partner and our 6 month old took our old caravan we renovated and an old tinnie on the roof of my ute with a 3.3 merc and done a month long trip along NSW and VIC coast. I was lucky enough to get a bit of fishing in along the trip and the biggest flatty i got was a 74cm model on a 95mm double clutch in tuross lake.
Hey Sammy, great vid mate. That 95 flatty was a stonka! I hit up the Swan River in Perth a few years ago now and managed to land my PB to date, a 71cm flatty on a Zman Diesel Minnow. Haven't targeted these fish for a while now so would be good to try your recommended gear out if I'm lucky enough. Cheers mate, lovin ya content and keep em coming.

My biggest flathead is 87cm on a live poddy mullet. Was visiting my cousin down sussex inlet, NSW. Caught it in the backyard of my cousins house in one of the river systems from the sea to the basin. Second biggest is 62cm in lake Illawarra, NSW.
I caught my largest flathead in the myall river it was 68cm on small black and silver deep diver thanks for the great video so keen to get back out there merry christmas

That flatty is a tank check out the thickness of her and I love the fact you release the big breeders. Ive never caught a horse of a flatty and only caught then on bait. Would definitely love to try glide baits.

biggest flatty i ever caught was just over 40cm from memory using a frog mouth pilchard, only just starting too look at lures thats why ive been watching you because you show techniques and explain what lures your using

PB on the troll with a Manns Stretch 5+ 'Wild Shiner' inside of deep water bend @ Bald hills, produced a fat bellied female Lizard at 76cm that was released of course! Pflueger Trion HM45 4-7kg with a Diawa HRF and NFI on the line size 👍🍻 Yeh the boys!!
Love flathead fishing. largest is only 62cm. keen to hook up on glide baits but need a big rod like you say.
G'day Sammy, best landed I think is 830 on a Mann's stretch 20+ during the very 1st Flathead Classic.
My biggest flathead was only 40cm. It was caught from the Lake Illawarra bridge at Windang on whitebait using a smallish longshank hook. The fish to hook ratio was so out of whack that the hook was basically straight when I got the fish up to the top of the bridge (it was legal to fish off that bridge back in the day)
Pb Dusky Flathead stands at 79cm caught on and unweighted mullet strip. Caught plenty of smaller flatties on lures but still grinding for the big big. Swim n Glide baits are certainly the way to go!

Best lizard I caught was the Illawarra classic 2018, off the bank coz boat was up the shit, a crappy Kmart rod and a piece of 4hr sun baked prawn went 54cm. Still wasn’t good enough to win but was a good mornings fishing.. see how 2020 goes.

On crescent head back beach. Cruising down the beach pulled up at a gutter on low tide. Dropped about 3 on a soft plastic, switched to a Berkley shimma shad, first cast 55cms flatty🤙
I got a 75cm flatty at Bribie Island on my daughters 1-3kg rod, 10lb line, on an 75mm atomic shiner silver wolf lure. I was stoked!

Hi Sammy, I caught a 93 cm flatty at Noosa on a 3” plastic about 12 years ago, unfortunately have been unable to catch a big one since, just started to try a swim bait, bought the savage ones for $5 on special a few months ago, have had a couple of follows but no fish as yet, will keep trying.
Never caught one. But I would love to chase the monsters on glide baits. Looks like great fun 🔥🎣

my biggest flathead was a 72cm croc that I actually caught on bait using prawns but I would love to get into using lures and I think theses lures will be a great start.
My biggest lizard is 79cm caught in the Bribie passage in about 200mm of water tucked in close to a mangrove on a 95mm Diawa double clutch I would love to upgrade and My goal for next year is to get one on a glide bait and a surface lure. Love the channel make keep up the good work 👍👍

G’day Sammy ya bloody golden snorkel! How ya been old dog? Ya been catchen that many flattys at the pin lately we might have to start callin ya the croc hunter! Just watch out for them stingrays ya bloody kookabarra. Well mate, I pulled up a 3 meter flatty last week while poppin for some GT’s Hahaha nah yeah nah mate, just pullin your 7 foot dobins rod ya bloody pilchard eatin pelican. My biggest brown shovel was 68cm on the old grub tail soft placcy. Tell ya what mate, she hit like a bloody road train goin down the Nullarbor. While I got ya cobb, would much appreciate whatcha handed out there, would look good in the ol tacklebox, not the one the misso soup gets to go through though hahahah ya dirty dingo. Anyway ol cobba mornay, I gotta run Hooroo plugga!

Hey mate, my PB flatty is 58cm and just my luck I caught it deadsticking a 2 inch gulp shrimp behind me in the kayak while i was flicking ahead. My biggest i actually contributed to catching was a 56cm on a pink zman 4 inch curltailz.

My biggest flatty was a 83cm rig taken on a gancraft jointed claw on the northern rivers. Great way to hook someone to swimbaiting catching a pb first cast. Since then that lure has been absolutely destroyed and won’t swim straight so some new ones would be super

Used to fish with the old man down south in Newcastle as a young fella. Always excited to bring home a bit of dinner. Biggest one would’ve been 50cm. Haven’t matched the feat up here yet. Not through lack of trying though.

Best flatty was an 82 cm pearler on a 5’ jerk shad in nuclear chicken. Took out the Pinehirst Poachers annual flatty comp (bunch of mates catching up). Was blowing a gale, fingers were numb, other soft poachers had pulled the pin and gone home. Persistence persistence persistence.
