How lovely. Thank you for the tutorial. I think this must take a fair bit of practice, but I find it a charming practice. I think I was born in the wrong century.

I love the dramatic head thrashing to show how well it holds. I didn't know so much of the pin's stick was meant to stick through the other side of the hat and be visible.

I let it stick out so that I know the pin will stay in place. You can use shorter pins if you prefer that.

Wonderful. Thank you. I laughed when you were demonstrating how well the hat stayed on. Good one💓.

I also braid a length of hair and pin it into a circlet on top of my head and then anchor my chapeau with hat pins..it’s very secure

Watching this video feels like I’m learning from my distinguished aunt who’s usually very serious but is laughing and joking as she teaches me all the lessons a proper young lady should know.

Why do you put the ribbon on first? Why not direct the hat pin through the hair? Also, the sharp end of the pin just sticks out? I’ve seen some hat pins with a cap to put on the end for safety.

The ribbon gives you something to put the pin in to keep it in place. When I have just pinned it through my hair the pin usually has nothing to hold to so it glides around. I found that the ribbon gives more security for fastening the hat. It also works if you have short or fine hair.
I have not had any problems with the sharp ends stickning out but there are caps you can put on the ends. Some looks like pearls so you can have decorative endings on both sides. Hope you find a way that works for you.
