My girl Abby followed me everywhere. I always called her my shadow. Love her dearly. She passed away a few days ago she was with me 13 yrs. She was a great friend.

Oh, I am so sorry. I have a similar story. A old babysitter of mine had a similar thing happen to her. So one day, when she lived in a apartment complex, she let her dog out to use the bathroom. She trained the dog to go down the stairs, and come back up when done. But, the dog saw a squirrel and ran off. The dog ran into the road after it, and was run over. The dog didn't die, but, was paralyzed and couldn't walk. So now, they have to put diapers on the dog, and help it do everything. So sad. It stays at her parents house.
The dog follows you to the bathroom because you stand and watch him to finish so you can bring him back in. The dog is protecting you at a vulnerable time.
The dog actually sits with you while you poop to look out for "danger". Same as when your dog looks at you when he poops. He's telling you "look out for me". I could be wrong though lol.
Aah yes i hav read this too. A dog is vulnerable when they poop so they always trust the owner to protect them thats why they poop with their back to us. And while we poop they want to protect us too cause we are a pack.
Amen me also I have had dogs my entire life and have five now. I feel good about their life after mine ends I have an amazing wife that will continue caring and loving them well after I am in heaven.

I fired an employee about four years ago because he came to work bragging about how he had kicked a yorkie around just before he came to work for peeing on the kitchen floor it took all I had not to beat that man so I call the humane society we met at his house after they after they removed that precious four pound dog I fired him on the spot!!

My puppy would hide with me behind the banister when I was a child, I lived in an abusive household. She would shake and tremble but whenever Dad was yelling she'd run upstairs to me. She's no longer with me but she helped me through some really hard times.

I really feel your story as I had a similar experience. My mother was very abusive to me as a kid and we had a doberman dog who never left my side and always knew when I needed her. I only found out long after she was gone from my grandparents that a couple of times she had actually tried to protect me when my mother was beating me, which I hadn't realised at the time, and I love her even more knowing that! She was the only one I ever felt loved me in that house so I think that's where my true love of dogs came from originally. I think our pups helped us survive our childhoods a lot less damaged than we would've been without them.

Mine does the opposite. She freaks the f#%$ out until I open the door. I have no idea why she does this, as she doesn't do it with anybody else. Just me. Always has... I've had her since 8mos and anytime I went to pee, she'd cry and howl and dig at the door and when I opened the door, she'd run in, look around, then sit between my feet til I finished. Luckily for me my own bathroom is connected to just my bedroom so nobody else had to see, lol. she's almost 2 years old (wow time flies...) and still does this. She doesn't care about bath time, as she actually climbs into and sniffs around the tub. If she gets wet, that's a different story, lol.

Ants, bees, or any animal that exhibit swarm intelligence. I guess it’s up to you rather or not their social behaviors qualify as “love” but I think it’s pretty fair to say they value themselves less then their family. You could argue spiders, preying mantis,, and any animal where the male gives its life to reproduce is “loving another more than yourself”. Same goes for animals that the young eat their mother when they are born. Lastly I feel like there is a pretty fair argument to be made that dolphins and elephants love another more than themselves. They are both super socially intelligent creatures and both prone to serious episodes of depression from isolation. Coco the gorilla definitely loved her kittens.
I have a pitbull , he is a handsome , polite , over friendly , love of my life . He is honestly, the best friend I ever had . He always moves in a gentle quiet way . Which I appreciate , at 64 yrs old . He gives me a reason to never give up on life . He needs me like I need , true love it's always has been. I believe that Jesus matches people with animals because we are both special . Extra love we both have , the gift of kindness , compathion and love.

Like some dogs get excited about people they’ve had positive experiences with, those same dogs may not greet you if they’re already having a good time, some may only greet you after being unsocialized/unstimulated, some may greet anyone no matter what, some will get excited when you just touch the front door... Is love really the reason?
Dogs are amazing. I grew up with one and I remember him poking me with his massive black nose every time I was sad or raising his paw the moment someone walked in after doing something naughty he knew that he was not allowed to do. When he was 16 and very unwell, I was working on my computer in the kitchen and he was there, looking at me and not wanting to move. Only few hours later we realised that they were last hours of his life. 😔 Will never understand why people hate dogs. They are incredible!
My Dachshund is VERY good at telling when something is wrong with me. Hes my Service Dog, so he has to be able to tell. When im sick, he will often lay with me to make me feel better.
I don’t have a service dog yet, but I am looking to get a guy dog soon. I am mostly blind, (85-90%)and while I do fine getting around with my cane; I would really like to get a guy dog at some point. Give your dachshund a hug for me, I’ve always loved them, though I’ve never had one
Is your dog a Service Dog or an Emotional Support Dog? There is a difference and people are causing HUGE problems trying to get their emotional support dog the protection and benefits under the ADA laws. A Service Dog is a Dog that is trained to PHYSICALLY DO something to Help a DISABLED person...like guide a blind person or puck up a dropped item, open a door, or brace for a person in a wheel chair. An Emotional support dog, is a dog that just, by being present, makes you "feel" better.
My dog King died last year. He had mental handicaps a bit but he was very nice and sweet with a tough attitude no matter what happened in his life. He was also an albino for his breed. Being with him made me a better more empathetic person because I realized if I could make this precious animal happy by showing simple morale virtues of love to it. Then I sure know I can be more loving to those around me so that they know I love them. I struggle with empathy and feeling strong positive emotions a lot cause of things I've experienced and seen. But he taught me a great deal and helped me get over many bad habits I had, I'm still a work In progress. But that animal engrained in my mind what my own parents weren't able to, and there is something special about that.
Only if you abuse or neglect your dogs should you not have them. Having dogs are a privilege not a right. You have to take care of them right or there’ll be trouble mainly from animal control

When I was younger my parents went away for three months me and my dog went with my uncle and aunt.Some days my uncle wouldn’t come home or come home late.One night when he came home he was acting strange.I asked what had happened and he screamed and smacked me in the face.My aunt was shopping and I was only 7 years old and did not know how to protect myself.when he slapped me I started to cry.he found that annoying that slapped me again then I cried even harder.It was then when my dog cookie the German Shepard ran downstairs and attacked my uncle she attacked until ran out of house.i was on the ground crying.she came to me and cheered me up I told my aunt what happened and called the police and we found out he had been drinking.he then arrested for physical abuse and my parents returned a few years after she got lung cancer and passed away she will forever be in my heart and I will never forget what she did for me I owe her.
When I was the same age, around 8 or 9 my parents divorced and I was forced to move out of state with the step dad. Long story short I became depressed one night I remember crying silently in my room, only to find my little pet dog. She pawed at my legs until I looked up and she began kissing me. It will always remain a fond memory during a hard time. :)
It's heartbreaking when a beloved doggy friend dies. After my dog passed away I was inconsolable until I had a dream where she was in a happy place with other doggy friends. She greeted me so warmly then her friend called her and off she went. I stopped grieving after that.
Thank you for sharing. It's crazy how much our furry best friends love us and the lengths they will go to in order to protect us, right? When I was a kid I received a blue black chow chow for Christmas. My parents got her for $50 from a pet shop because she was the runt of the litter and no one wanted her. I thought she was perfect from the time I set eyes on her and I named her Coa-Coa. We became so close that she allowed me to help her birth and care for her own litter. We would swim together, go on long walks and play in the park together. I would brush her and groom her long bear-like hair (fur) daily and she even slept in my bed. We were about the same size! Lol. One thanksgiving a friend and I were walking to her house about a block away when a drunk driver came barreling toward us. I was closest to the road with my friend to my immediate right and Coa-Coa was to my friends immediate right. Just before the driver hit me, Coa-Coa sprung out of nowhere and pushed me out of the path of the car, I went flying in to the ditch which was to the right of all of us, taking my friend with me. However, the car instead, hit my beloved Coa-Coa. She was tossed into the air more than 100 ft. away. I've never been so hysterical in my life. I gave her CPR all the way to the Vet Emergency Hospital. I was able to keep her alive until we could get help. Sadly, the Vet said she had severe internal trauma and massive internal bleeding and was in excruciating pain. They had sedated her to keep her comfortable until they could consult with us. The vet said the only humane thing to do at that point was to put her down peacefully rather than have her final minutes end in complete pain and suffering. So, I cradled Coa-Coa in my arms, thanking her for saving my life, saying my goodbyes, and telling her Just how much I loved her as she passed on. You can never repay that kind of debt but the one thing I can and have done to honor her memory is to take in, care for and love other "unwanted" doggies the way I loved and cared for her. She's always been missed.

I’ve been wondering how my dog was doing after passing away and I’ve been thinking of him and grieving at the same time; he appeared in my dream the same way yours did, he’s running towards me and just went running around so happy❤️😢😄 I was so thankful to God for showing me my dog’s fine and He takes care of them as well❤️

A few years ago I lost my mom traumatically, and at the time I was a pet sitter with several regular clients. Some of the dogs I had known for years. That first day back at work every single dog just KNEW that something was wrong. I got so many puppy kisses and snuggles that for at least a little while I was able to forget the horrible things. I doubt I would have been able to get through it without them. Dogs are angels ❤️

True! A lot of times, one of my two dogs sat in the middle of hallway and stared at me and my siblings. It was soo creepy..She is very mystery dog. So I had to go to her and gave her attention. My other dog usually gave me puppy eyes for foods, bathroom, attention and etc. But other times, my other dog would stare at me while I am sleeping or doing something. I’ve always had a PARTICULARLY nasty disdain for people like that. When i heard a bunch of black guys in Salem NC were adopting almost all the pugs from a rescue in that town I thought it was great! But when the state police busted them for dog fighting it made me VERY angry, I donated $300 to that shelter and almost the same amount in a gift card to that Walmart. Apparently pugs have a great deal of “courage” and almost as much fight for such a small package. I also wrote a letter to the PA & judge for that district. Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
My dog is literally like my sibling. We both play fight and we both sleep together and we do everything together. Ever since I got her I felt bad leaving her home alone at the house but I’m glad my grandma always lets her out the house and my grandma takes care of her when I gone. Also I thought dogs licked your face to get like any extra food you may have missed and apparently puppies do it to their mums when they are being weaned so the mum can regurgitate some of the chewed up half digested food for the puppy to eat or something. That's just what I heard.
I have a feeling that this is not a scientific study. I think it was written by a dog lover who feels that dogs think like humans. I've heard similar human traits given to reptiles. My snake really loves me; I can tell by the way he looks into my eyes.
+Nikita LV30 If he's a Border Collie you can make him react almost any way you want. Making him stop scratching should be easy. Just say "no" in a determined way and show him your back everytime he scratches you. Maybe give him a very light clap on the paws to signify what you don't want him to do. When he starts to do it differently show that you're happy and perhaps give him a treat or scratch him behind the ears. You can teach a Border Collie any number of things and they learn fast.
Nah, I just have a Border Collie myself. Border Collies are special, they understand and adapt really fast. They actually thrive the most when they're told what to do and kept active.
That's cool. Remember though that any habit of his you don't want can likely be changed. The only downside to a Border Collie is how much attention and exercise it needs. If that's what you want though, it's a perfect fit. Mine helped me get in shape.
Dogs ONLY exist because of men creating them through genetic manipulation/breeding. A responsibility we don't take serious enough based on the horrific abuse they regularly suffer with no change in the laws to protect them.

I've had her since 8mos and anytime I went to pee, she'd cry and howl and dig at the door and when I opened the door, she'd run in, look around, then sit between my feet til I finished. Luckily for me my own bathroom is connected to just my bedroom so nobody else had to see, lol.

Ants, bees, or any animal that exhibit swarm intelligence. I guess it’s up to you rather or not their social behaviors qualify as “love” but I think it’s pretty fair to say they value themselves less then their family.
You could argue spiders, preying mantis,, and any animal where the male gives its life to reproduce is “loving another more than yourself”. Same goes for animals that the young eat their mother when they are born.
Lastly I feel like there is a pretty fair argument to be made that dolphins and elephants love another more than themselves. They are both super socially intelligent creatures and both prone to serious episodes of depression from isolation.

Dogs are amazing. I grew up with one and I remember him poking me with his massive black nose every time I was sad or raising his paw the moment someone walked in after doing something naughty he knew that he was not allowed to do. When he was 16 and very unwell, I was working on my computer in the kitchen and he was there, looking at me and not wanting to move. Only few hours later we realised that they were last hours of his life. 😔 Will never understand why people hate dogs. They are incredible!

There is a difference and people are causing HUGE problems trying to get their emotional support dog the protection and benefits under the ADA laws. A Service Dog is a Dog that is trained to PHYSICALLY DO something to Help a DISABLED person...like guide a blind person or puck up a dropped item, open a door, or brace for a person in a wheel chair. An Emotional support dog, is a dog that just, by being present, makes you "feel" better.
My dog King died last year.
He had mental handicaps a bit but he was very nice and sweet with a tough attitude no matter what happened in his life.
He was also an albino for his breed.
Being with him made me a better more empathetic person because I realized if I could make this precious animal happy by showing simple morale virtues of love to it.
Then I sure know I can be more loving to those around me so that they know I love them.
I struggle with empathy and feeling strong positive emotions a lot cause of things I've experienced and seen.
But he taught me a great deal and helped me get over many bad habits I had, I'm still a work In progress.
But that animal engrained in my mind what my own parents weren't able to, and there is something special about that.

When I was younger my parents went away for three months me and my dog went with my uncle and aunt.Some days my uncle wouldn’t come home or come home late.One night when he came home he was acting strange.I asked what had happened and he screamed and smacked me in the face.My aunt was shopping and I was only 7 years old and did not know how to protect myself.when he slapped me I started to cry.he found that annoying that slapped me again then I cried even harder.It was then when my dog cookie the German Shepard ran downstairs and attacked my uncle she attacked until ran out of house.i was on the ground crying.she came to me and cheered me up I told my aunt what happened and called the police and we found out he had been drinking.he then arrested for physical abuse and my parents returned a few years after she got lung cancer and passed away she will forever be in my heart and I will never forget what she did for me I owe her.

When I was the same age, around 8 or 9 my parents divorced and I was forced to move out of state with the step dad. Long story short I became depressed one night I remember crying silently in my room, only to find my little pet dog. She pawed at my legs until I looked up and she began kissing me. It will always remain a fond memory during a hard time. :)
It's heartbreaking when a beloved doggy friend dies. After my dog passed away I was inconsolable until I had a dream where she was in a happy place with other doggy friends. She greeted me so warmly then her friend called her and off she went. I stopped grieving after that.
Thank you for sharing. It's crazy how much our furry best friends love us and the lengths they will go to in order to protect us, right? When I was a kid I received a blue black chow chow for Christmas. My parents got her for $50 from a pet shop because she was the runt of the litter and no one wanted her. I thought she was perfect from the time I set eyes on her and I named her Coa-Coa. We became so close that she allowed me to help her birth and care for her own litter. We would swim together, go on long walks and play in the park together. I would brush her and groom her long bear-like hair (fur) daily and she even slept in my bed. We were about the same size! Lol. One thanksgiving a friend and I were walking to her house about a block away when a drunk driver came barreling toward us. I was closest to the road with my friend to my immediate right and Coa-Coa was to my friends immediate right. Just before the driver hit me, Coa-Coa sprung out of nowhere and pushed me out of the path of the car, I went flying in to the ditch which was to the right of all of us, taking my friend with me. However, the car instead, hit my beloved Coa-Coa. She was tossed into the air more than 100 ft. away. I've never been so hysterical in my life. I gave her CPR all the way to the Vet Emergency Hospital. I was able to keep her alive until we could get help. Sadly, the Vet said she had severe internal trauma and massive internal bleeding and was in excruciating pain. They had sedated her to keep her comfortable until they could consult with us. The vet said the only humane thing to do at that point was to put her down peacefully rather than have her final minutes end in complete pain and suffering. So, I cradled Coa-Coa in my arms, thanking her for saving my life, saying my goodbyes, and telling her Just how much I loved her as she passed on. You can never repay that kind of debt but the one thing I can and have done to honor her memory is to take in, care for and love other "unwanted" doggies the way I loved and cared for her. She's always been missed.

A few years ago I lost my mom traumatically, and at the time I was a pet sitter with several regular clients. Some of the dogs I had known for years. That first day back at work every single dog just KNEW that something was wrong. I got so many puppy kisses and snuggles that for at least a little while I was able to forget the horrible things. I doubt I would have been able to get through it without them. Dogs are angels ❤️

True! A lot of times, one of my two dogs sat in the middle of hallway and stared at me and my siblings. It was soo creepy..She is very mystery dog. So I had to go to her and gave her attention. Sometimes it meant she want to go out to bathroom or whatever. My other dog usually gave me puppy eyes for foods, bathroom, attention and etc. But other times, my other dog would stare at me while I am sleeping or doing something. I swears she is very creepy dog. Lol

I’ve always had a PARTICULARLY nasty disdain for people like that. When i heard a bunch of black guys in Salem NC were adopting almost all the pugs from a rescue in that town I thought it was great! But when the state police busted them for dog fighting it made me VERY angry, I donated $300 to that shelter and almost the same amount in a gift card to that Walmart. Apparently pugs have a great deal of “courage” and almost as much fight for such a small package. I also wrote a letter to the PA & judge for that district.

+Nikita LV30 If he's a Border Collie you can make him react almost any way you want. Making him stop scratching should be easy. Just say "no" in a determined way and show him your back everytime he scratches you. Maybe give him a very light clap on the paws to signify what you don't want him to do. When he starts to do it differently show that you're happy and perhaps give him a treat or scratch him behind the ears.
You can teach a Border Collie any number of things and they learn fast.

Nah, I just have a Border Collie myself. Border Collies are special, they understand and adapt really fast. They actually thrive the most when they're told what to do and kept active.

That's cool. Remember though that any habit of his you don't want can likely be changed. The only downside to a Border Collie is how much attention and exercise it needs. If that's what you want though, it's a perfect fit. Mine helped me get in shape.
