How to Crochet Straight Edges with Popular Crochet Stitches

- Have you wondered how to crochet straight edges with the most popular crochet stitches?
In this video I'll show you how to keep your edges straight when making single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, and treble crochet stitches. There are several easy techniques that will keep the edges straight as you crochet.
It's important to note there is nothing wrong with traditional wavy scalloped crochet edges. Many times the wavy edges work out beautifully for some patterns. However sometimes when making items like scarves or items that need to be joined together, you might prefer to have a straight edge instead.
I'm using a size G 4 mm crochet hook for my sample and worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn. Feel free to use any other size yarn and hook for your samples.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I hope you enjoy this video! Donna Wolfe from Naztazia

GENIUS! I’ve been crocheting since me and Jesus were in high school 🤣 and I’ve never seen these! Thank you for sharing Donna! This will definitely be implemented in my projects from now on . 🥰🧶
Glad it was helpful!
@@naztazia videos are always informational and easy to follow.
Bwahahaha same here! These are brilliant!
Please don’t use Jesus’s name in your silly jokes 😡😡
@@Grany571 there was no offense intended. I was simply implying how old I am and it’s my first amendment right to free speech that allows me to say whatever I want. And if you don’t think God/Jesus (because they’re the same) has a sense of humor you’re sadly mistaken. Look at the platypus. 😑🤣
Oh! I almost forgot…May God keep and bless you should he see fit to do so. Have a lovely day.🥰
Your nail polish is absolutely amazing!
I was jist admiring that as well ❤
I’m going to try this method because it gives it a better clean look at any project
Happy to help!

Greetings from Mumbai, India. Soooo happy to have come across this video as I am making a baby blanky which I have unraveled a zillion times as I wasnt happy with the edging. Now in this final attempt, I have followed your instructions for double crochet and cannot tell you how great it now looks. Cant thank you enough for this video.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful! Happy to help!
Wow what a good idea, I have been trying to rid the bumps . Thank You for all of your videos. My crocheting has been getting better with your instructions. Been watching for the last few years. Thank You again.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for this tip. I love your nail polish 💅🏻
Oh thank you! 💅 ❤️
absolutely brilliant. I love how you got through all the stitches/variations in just a few minutes...right to the point🎉🎉🎉
Always happy to help! 😊
Your chrome nails are everything.❤
Thank you! 💅
I've been experimenting with various techniques to eliminate the gap caused by the turning chain. This is the best tutorial so far. I prefer the first one for double crochet & the second one for single crochet. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it helped!
I find the second method easier than the first one. This is the best way to get straight edge .
i used to struggle with the first method but i altered it to make it easier for me to crochet. instead of wrapping the hook and holding on tight, i twist the yarn before i insert into the stitch. then i just flick the twisted yarn over my hook before the final pull through two.
that's what works for me these days anyway, i think it looks nicer than the stacked stitches
Donna, this is AMAZING! I have been struggling with making straight edges, almost to the point of tears! I have so many things I want to make but finding that last stitch was difficult. You are the best teacher ever! I like to use markers but i know the placement is always off. Goodbye tears!
Happy to help!

Thank you so much, crooked edges were driving me insane! You have changed my life 😊
Always happy to help! 🥰
Beautiful! You are an awesome teacher! What I do works, but the first method you showed is a game changer for me. Thank you so much!!❤❤❤❤
Glad to provide some new ideas!
Oooohhhh that second technique must be the stacked single crochet!!!!!
I love the stacked singles, but have never tried using it on the very first stitch in the starting chain. I’m going to start doing that now. Thanks!
And your nails are gorgeous! 🤩
Thank you!
I really love your way of doing straight edges. I've seen other ls do it differently, and prefer your first way much more

Thanks so much for the tips. I find the second method much easier than the first. In my past, I failed miserably with the standing stitch. So I'm thankful that you have two methods.😅😅😊
Glad it helped!
Thanks Donna. Step 2 is the method I've been using, but I am open to trying the others as well. btw, your nails are super gorgeous in this video! :)
Awesome! Yep, having different ways available is always good. Thank you very much! 💅
So smart and simple! I am making a scarf for my mom and want straight edges for her, i will try the first method as i like the look better, but both methods looks great! Im using a soft and thick blanket type yarn for it, so i hope this still works with it ❤ also, love your nails!
EDIT: i coupdnt get the firat method to work with the thick yarn (probably just my fault) so i tried the second and it really helped
Thank you for all of the kindness! ❤️
