    I pick up my 2021 Gen 2 tomorrow. My 2008 Gen 1 has 187,000 miles and I am very familiar with all of this. Regular fluid changes has me almost regretting the upgrade. My Gen 1 runs like new. These are great vehicles.

    Glad you're doing it the right way with torque specs and the proper tools.. I see so many people applying wrong torque specs, they don't realize the big risks behind it.

    Followed your walk thru and knocked my first Diff. Service out today. Very straightforward. Hardest part of the job was the cleanup.

    I just picked up a used 2020 Ridgeline on 4/16 with 29k miles! Loving how I can fit a rear-facing infant seat in the back row and still have space up front.
    I want to take a stab at doing more of my own maintenance. Figured I should be able to do on my own
    1. Brakes, rotors, fluid
    2. Engine oil and filter
    3. Transmission fluid
    4. Engine coolant
    5. Rear differential
    6. Rotate tires
    7. Other easy-ish things
    However doing these, I'm not sure how it affects what I would be missing when taking it into the dealer - they know how to inspect the other stuff that is part of the maintenance minder system. Can't even buy a service manual anymore

      My opinion is you would not be missing much doing labor yourself. If you have a service agreement that requires you to maintenance your vehicle with a certified dealer or location then if you want to stay under that guideline then you would have to take it in. But most Hondas don’t have such limitations so doing it yourself would be first off, significantly cheaper and second fairly simple to do. It’s scary at first if you don’t know how but you are capable of more than you think.

    Changed mine today. This was the 1st for the vehicle and and fill plug was definitely more tight than 35 lbs. I could not loosen it while flat on ground. Had to jack up 1 side so I could use longer breaker bar to get some leverage, rest was easy peasy.

      That’s awesome. The heat cycles and temperature could play a role in how tight it is just due to time. Glad you got it off and it worked out!

      Agree. That one was an SOB. Pipe over a 1/2 inch ratchet that was converted down to 3/8s and pull. Managed it without jacking it up - barely.

    Great how to! If you read the service manual, you are supposed to fill up to the fill hole with fluid. Mine took almost 2.25qt. I don't think you will hurt anything with 2qts but just a heads up. There is also a bleeding procedure.

      Yes that is how I fill up. I put my finger inside and confirmed that the oil level was appropriate.

      On the specifications page (Pg. 154) the capacity for the RDF is 1.92 US qt. so with the 2 quarts you're technically already over filling it. Will it hurt it? Probably not. I just pumped the 2 quarts and I was done.

    Not all bottle pumps are created equal. Have purchased three two from Amazon and none work to suck up the great oil. Great position to be in.

    Changing the Transmission fluid is a bit harder (if it has not been done before) at least on my MDX, had to use a BIG breaker bar and a stack of extensions to get fill plug out.

      I am considering on just having it flushed at the dealer. Was planning on getting it done for a video but I'm so slammed on time right now. will see if I get a chance.

      I did a change on my dads 2016 pilot with 53k miles
      Drain bolt was stuck on
      I ended up using a scissor jack against the ratchet to loosen it

      If you Tow, the recommendation is every 15,000 miles. Being that I towed 4800lbs non stop for almost 3000 miles it’s cheap insurance.

    The fill plug on mine is very tight. Ive applied crazy force but can’t get it loose. Any tips as to how to loosen it? Thanks!

      I would apply a penetrant oil and let it sit for a while. Then try again. Apply multiple coats too. Just in case. Something like this. amzn.to/3rZM51w

    Hey Yuriy what exactly does the fluid do in the rear diff in these trucks that it needs to be done so often? From what I read its about every 15k miles?

      Lubricates and keeps the gears cool. Without cleaning it, the friction due to the increased break down will increase stress on the parts and eventually may cause failure.

      3/8" extension, not a socket. Or insert the ratchet itself into the drain plug

    After you do rear differential fluid and transmission fluid change do you need to reset the maintenance reset

    My drain plug is stuck on. I couldn’t even remove it using a pneumatic gun. Any advice?

      Apply some heat to the plug with a torch don’t get it so hot it changes color. Second option is a penetrant. Wd40 or some other version. Soak it and try again. Alternative to the pneumatic gun I would use a breaker bar and use leverage. Just make sure you are using the exact size adapter as to not strip the inside of the plug.

      @@YuriyMotso Thanks dude! Used PB Blaster and left over night. Still could not remove with racket. I tried our breaker bar, but there just wasn’t enough room to use it. Someone else had the great idea of using a jack. I have a nice hydraulic jack and that worked great with the racket, broke free after a couple of pumps. That was on tight! Bottom of vehicle was rising a little at first!! Anti-seized those bolts so hopefully be easier next time.

      First 7500miles and then 15000miles if you tow regularly and I think it was every 30k for general use.

      Oil change is every 5-8k.
      Transmission is every 30k or less depending on use.
      Differential is 15k for first one, then every 30k after that.
      Break system is every 30k.

      Check the owner/maintenance manual - from the videos I've watched, should be the same, as the 2020+ is all 2nd gen (refresh). But I don't think the torque settings vary too much by model year.

      Yes. I you have access to a honda manual on page 603, under Rear differential fluid, it states to use DPSF-II. Dual pump 2 fluid. The link is in my description. :). I have rear lots of forums too and no where on Hondas manual does it say anything about ATM4 Fluid. Highly recommend downloading an ebook version of the manual so you can easily and quickly search for things in manual. Its super useful and I use it frequently. Hope this helps.
