I didn't know Yamaha bought Cordoba (and Guild along with it) until this video. That's actually really cool. Yamaha knows what they're doing, and they seem to really truly care about the quality of their instruments. Yamaha, if you're listening, bring back Guild electrics to the USA or even Japan!
@@todddammit4628 Hors dor Ba wasn’t that a car that the actor Matab Bob advertised
If I buy a new guitar, it will be a Guild D-55. I love the way they look, the way they sound, and the 1 11/16 nut width.
I love mine ,I’ve never regretted it
It’s been my dream guitar since discovering the Goo Goo Dolls back in the early noughties. Such a stunning instrument
🤣😂🤣😂
same as me, when i watch john rzeznik strum with this guitar, unbelievable sound.
Exactly why I had 3 of them. I recently sold them all though.
The tone and power makes me smile a big smile !!!!
I love my D55E. Phenomenal low-ends but still extremely balanced through all six strings. The neck is very comfortable to play and let's face it, you can't beat the look. When I'm performing, the guitar creates it's own stage presence.
I've had a Guild D55 (American made) for a few years now and love it. The lows, mids, and highs are so well balanced you can bring out whatever tone you want. It's an excellent guitar for fingerpicking and for use with a flat pick. The sound is so pure there's no need to overplay the guitar to try and get a full sound. In fact it's detrimental to its rich sound to overplay it. The action can be set low making it easy to play and it stays in tune. When it's tuned properly it will be in tune all the way up and down the neck. The D55 (as was said) is not a bluegrass guitar, it has to much atmosphere. But for songs like "Here Comes the Sun", "Girl from the North Country", or "Dust in the Wind" for instance, you won't find a better guitar. Plus it sounds great with a good harmonica. This guitar far outpaces my talent but will always have the potential to play at a higher level when I can achieve it. This is a guitar a person can own for a lifetime so for $4500 the price is well worth it. Heck, you can't get a decent used car for that price but you can own what is undeniably a classic guitar.
These are great guitars. The fact that Yamaha owns Guild, it can only add to the possibilities of what can be.
They can be unburdened by what has been.
Perfect guitar to play "Night Moves " on
Holy grail.
Every time I see a Sunburst D55 I think of Tommy Smothers
I have an original D 55. Made in original factory. Don't have serial number but can dig it out. Been considering selling it. Original ones are very! rare.
Smothers brother Tom, John Denver played one although he played like a jumbo one, but I think he also played the D 55
I bought a new D55 e a few months ago to match my martin D45e
@@Billsingsong which of the two is your favorite tonewise?
I bought a D55 12 string in 1974. Amazing guitar 1800 bucks.
My first guitar that I bought when I came to CA was a Guild though I didn’t know anything about guitars especially the American made major brand name ones, I felt that it had that good tone coming from that ThinLine with electronic Fisman pickup ( that I was not educated on as well) circa 80’s or earlier model; so far I got 3 now…
These guys are getting buff. 💪
Amazing guitars
The natural finish top has more low-end thump to it. They both sound nice.
They sounded really good but when Clinton started finger picking it just blows your socks off!
The monster. My favorite guitar of all.
Very nice!
I actually owned 3 guild d 55s. Two bursts exactly as these and a 2008 natural ( it was heavy ). They sound so good acoustic and feel so good but damn does the pickup system really lack. I sold all of them because live, theyre too thin and need to work on the pickups. Granted... i had lr baggs in mine. If they could do a deal with Maton... and get their pickups put into these.... the ap5pro... these would be unstoppable. Again, everything is opinion and this was mine.
What are the differences between the D50 and D55 in sound
I've never owned one, but it's one of the guitars I've lusted after ever since seeing Tommy Smothers (RIP) play his in the late 1960's on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Before that he played a sunburst Martin D-28, but the looks of the D-55 was a new level of pizzazz!
Oh, nice
I've always thought these were beautiful guitars, ever ince Tommy Smothers played one on TV. Is it just me, or does the sunburst model sound a bit deeper than the natural?
I agree! I liked that one best.
@@Muhlenburger Great reply! Mom also always liked the D-55 Sunburst best!
Fabulous sounding guitar.......I wish they offered it with an 1 3/4" nut.
D-55 > D28. It just sounds... better. Hard to swallow.
The great unsung American guitar company.
I had one for a two months at home. Hanging at my wall like all my guitars. Then while sitting at my desk there suddenly was a loud „bling“ that came from my wall. And there was it: a 2-3 inch crack on the top about an inch away from the bridge. Checking out the guitar I noticed that the top was really thin in comparison to my Martins and Gibsons. Seems that this big (tendency to boomy) sound is owed to a very thin top harming the structural integrity. I returned the guitar receiving a full refund. Chapter closed.
Sounds like a low humidity level inside your home. Time to hydrate.
@@dvanolya I have permanent humidity control in my studio. It wasn‘t that.
Headstock has its own zip code
Definitely some real estate up top on these!
Just sold my D55
I am probably the obly one, but I really don't like the sound of that guitar. Especially when the upper strings are played.
Are they made in China?
Oxnard, California
I have a rule where I will never spend over 500 bucks on an instrument; I just don’t think there’s much value in getting anything more expensive. However, the Guild D55 would be my exception
In 60 years of playing, I owned many mid priced guitars. For the past 25 years, I have only bought higher end guitars, and the difference is quite noticeable. Buy the D-55! I guarantee you won't regret it!
Bad sounding Video…. The Guild sounds much better!
Would have been nice to have you spend more time playing the instrument instead of clunking around like you did during most of the video. We really didn't get the sound of the guitars...mostly talking
For me that is low quality guitar
Yamaha fg ta is much Better country guitar for the same money
I had a Yamaha FS5…it sounded incredible but I hated the flat radius…the FG TA is 16”. Too flat to be enjoyable, but that’s just my personal taste.
Still looking for the elusive black sunburst Valencia custom guild. The most badd ass guild ever.
Smothers brother Tom, John Denver played one although he played like a jumbo one, but I think he also played the D 55
