    I was ready to pass you off as yet another middle aged man trying for whiskeytube, but you labeling each glass for the audience shows a commitment to the audience I'm not used to seeing in this platform and subject. You got a new subscriber. Let's see where this journey goes.

    I've always preferred Woodford DO over the 1910. But I tell ya, I was blessed to find a Peerless Single Barrel DO store pick that is flat out amazing!! Its the best DO bourbon I've ever tasted! I tried to go back and grab a back up and they were sold out...lesson learned. Great video bud!!

      I never seen a peerless DO store pick, or single barrel. Ive seen one peerless single barrel, but i think it was the rye. I have a regular release peerless DO i just recently got, its absolutely amazing. My fav DO by far. I dont get the same funk he gets in his, at all. Just a nice rich sweet oak, borderline too much oak, but not. Not a tannic oak either, a really sweet oak. Sweeter than the woodford DO. Total wine has a brand exclusive for them, bondstone. They have a triple oak. Its their double oak, then they put toasted oak staves. Its 100 prf instead of 90 prf like the DO. It actually gets great reviews, which is unusual for a TW exclusive. Even total wine's store picks ive never really impressed with. Like they dont have anyone sample the barrels and just say hey, send us a barrel, and the distillery sends them the reject barrels no one else picks and too off profile for their batched or their own SiB releases. And total wine doesnt care because they dont have to spend $/resources sending someone to pick a barrel, and they know it will eventually sell anyways.

    With the help of a few friends, we tried to recreate this scenario with a couple changes - Jefferson's Twin Oak and Wilderness Trail BiB instead of your Four Gate and Peerless.

    When I started a year ago 1910 and Woodford dbl oak were two of my favorite pours. Then the EC toasted was better to me. After about three months I started shying away from them and enjoying things like the 1920 and other higher proof pours. I really like my 2XO Phoenix and for a rye I go with Sagamore dbl oak! Cheers

      Sagamore dbl oak was my rye whiskey of the year for 2023. Even though I prefer higher proof pours myself the WWDO still has nice deep rich flavor that holds up against some of the big boys

  • @piperjon
    @piperjon 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Couple of thoughts. 1) It's called double oake(d) not double charred. So toasted certainly qualifies as a second oak. That being said, it was no surprise it stood out from the others and ended in 5th. How would it do in a blind of toasted offerings? Hmm 2) I like spice more than sweet, although both are required for balance. My balanced is probably somewhat different than yours. 3) On any given day, depending on mood, what I've eaten, what else I've had to drink either the OF or WRDO could have come out on top for me. Cheers. 🥃😎

    Solid review! Interesting that your #1 and #2 are both very widely available and the most affordable of the bunch. That said I have 4 out of the 5 bottles. Four Gate is out of my price range. I would say that the OF and WRDO are both bangers in my book. The hype of the EC Toasted just doesn't transfer through to the glass IMO. I would most likely mirror your choice of 1 and 2. I could go so far as making the 1910 my #1 but they are both solid. My 3 would probably be Peerless, but honestly I just cracked it about two weeks ago and haven't jumped into it with both feet. My initial notes were definitely oak, hot, and dry. 4 would be the EC Toasted. I can't comment on the 4G. Cheers!

      @@whiskeyisajourney I believe the 1910 comes from the fire that happened at the Old Forester warehouse in 1910. They had a bunch of barrels that were burned. The whiskey turned out to be pretty good, though. So the 1910 recreates that by using heavily charred and toasted barrels.

    I think fourgate would have done better if the other glasses were closer in proof. It was 30 + proof higher that at least 3 of them making it feel spicy and over powering. The peerless was kind of in the middle and agree it has a distinct funky taste. These must be older batches. I get absolutely no banana in my 1910, no funk in my peerless DO. The peerless DO is super sweet and super oaky, but a sweet oak not a tannic oak. For me anyways. Woodford DO hits me differently depending on my mood. Sometimes its more desserty and sometimes a little more spicy. Neither one of them are drying for me. Id say peerless is my #1, then W DO and 1910 can flip flop for me depending on my mood, what ive had before it, etc. The EC toasted i havent had all that much. Ive tried 2 batches once each and they vary between batches. Never had the FG K60. Never actually had any FG. They just arent anywhere around here in MA. Not even on the secondary or in raffles, they just dont exist here. I have always wanted to try the k 60 though. Good job w the vid btw.

      @@whiskeyisajourneyya the price is a big down side. Especially when theres so many bottles $50-150 that are just so damn good. I got ORVW 10 & 12 Lot B for $160 each. EH Taylor SiB for $75, the BP for $90. Couple staggs for $55-60. And so many more in the $100-150 range. Bunch of rare characters and found norths, bunch of barrell crafts bourbons and finished private releases. Idk if you get Ry3, but he puts out some damn good juice as well. I just started collecting just about a year-13months ago and already have 160-180 bottles lol. All but 2 open, and thats because my brother has the same ones and i tried his before i opened mine. Ones a weller full proof store pick, but the two other WFP picks i have are amazing. And ECBP c923. I know everyone raves about it, but ecbp's just arent my jam. Thought c923 would be, but its just not. its for sure better than the others, but just not one my profile. I have one ecbp store pick thats off profile and insanely good. Nothing like the ecbp releases. Doesnt have the nutty funk that kills ecbp for me. Other than those 2, every single bottle in my collection is open and i drink.
