Bought a blantons store pick yesterday for $68.. the store owner who did the store pick passed recently and the store manager and I got close thur bourbon so she saved me a bottle cause in her words as she teared up he would want me to have it. That hit hard! So connect with people and enjoy the moments 🥃
I do not like regular woodford reserve and so I never wanted to even try the double oaked until I watched one of your episodes a while back. You guys really enjoyed it. I reluctantly bought a bottle and it is now one of my favorites!!!
You guys often apologize for loosing track of who gives you what bottles. I have the same problem with bottles people give to me. I have started marking gift bottles with a piece of blue masking tape with the person's name and the date they gave me the bottle written on it. That way, I think of the generous person everytime I pour from a gifted bottle. It also has the added benefit for wine bottles (since I am not really a wine person) that I can predict how good a particular bottle may be by knowing the person who gave it to me and how into wine they are. A small label placed inconspiculously on the bottom of your bottles would let you know at a glance who (and when) you received the bottle from, without having to dig into your records. Keep up the great videos and thanks for continuing to expand my bourbon knowledge and appreciation!
Just opened my bottle of WRDO. Never disappoints. Dark color, definitely butterscotch notes and marshmallow not a bad finish. Easy drinking. It’s been awhile, I actually think I’m going to go back to the store and pick up another. Nice summertime bourbon. Another enjoyable episode. Thanks for sharing.
we can definitely tell the generation difference. Kurt says he doesn't have a paper and pencil to write it down. Trent says I need to "write" it down and grabs his phone. Don't worry Kurt, I'm with you on "writing" things down. Actually I'm older. Great show, keep them coming. TonyB
Great idea for a show, I have never seen anyone else do multiple Woodford Reserve Double Oaked store picks vs the shelf, if you can ever do that with other brands that would be interesting too. WRDO is my #1 favorite so it's tough to expect a store pick to improve on what I think is already just right, and as with all picks it's entirely dependent on the person doing the picking.
LMAO! No women in the basement tonight, getting the most excellent BBB stuff, just the guys yapping about Woodford. Having a blast watching this. Thank you both! The ladies will never leave you unattended again 😊
This was one of the best. Show went off the rails towards the end and I just couldn’t stop laughing. I lost it when Kurt said he’s young. Oh that Morning Wood Double Oaked. Brings out the best.
Good review, as always. WRDO store picks have been hit or miss for me and normally the standard offering is as good or better than the picks I've had. Big fan of the Old Forrester 1910, too.
“He’s young” 😂 I’ve just started back with an actual collection and I bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked specifically off of y’all’s reactions to it and tasting notes of pancakes and syrup. Man is it good!
A store or owner of a store will go to a distillery and taste different barrels from different locations in the warehouse. Then they "pick" one and purchase the whole barrel. It's dumped and bottled and a special sticker goes on the bottle with the store name. They are usually much better than a non store pick.
A store owner goes to a distillery and taste different barrels from different locations in the warehouse and "pick" a barrel. They then purchase that barrel and all the bottles from that barrel gets a sticker with the store name on it.
Curt, you mentioned that you weren’t sure about the aging. I didn’t get a full response from Woodford but they did send me this. Our Woodford Reserve Bourbon is aged an additional 8 to 12 months in a heavily toasted lightly char barrel before batching and bottling.
Always fun doing side by sides! Just did the same with WRDO PS vs shelf… It’s not surprising that ya’ll were confused given that the PS program only allows you to select from three different blended profiles! All the laughing was great. Good to see you guys having such a good time.
I picked one of these up from total wine and it's a unique pour that I enjoy after a savory dish. It's sweet and delicious. It's got the butterscotch thing but with a touch of maple and marshmallow.
It’s great to see you being a great father and son and having so much fun together. I watch these videos to stockpile bottles to taste with my sons one day. Keep up the great work!
One of my favorite episodes 😂 Really enjoyed this one. I went to the store today and got a rum and a tequila that I had been wanting to get. I actually stood there looking at a Woodford Reserve DO and said I would get one later. Emptied the one I did have. And then I was sitting here earlier this afternoon wondering what was I gonna sip on tonight and watched this video and really wished that I had of got the WRDO now. I have some of the regular WR but not the double oak. But might give it a try tonight. Thanks again for the video👍👍
Honestly gentlemen that is not a fail at all!!! What it is, is something we as whiskey drinkers hope to always run into. Actual store picks that are better than the original!! This was aweaome to see as I love WDO!! Now I gta find a store pick!!
2:19 "I need to start drinkin' right now." 😂 Try saying "Woodford Reserve Double Oaked" three times fast. 🙂 I like Woodford Reserve, and the Double Oaked is fantastic. Unfortunately I can only afford a pint of the Double Oaked at a time - especially right now, after spending money I didn't really have on a Knob Creek store pick. 🙂
I know it’s a bit south from you guys. But if you are ever near Indianapolis, please swing by Capri. It is an Italian restaurant that does store picks and they have the most amazing woodford DO picks (one is butterscotch and another is green apple). Let’s not forget the amazing Italian food!
One of the major liquor retailers in my area has a corporate policy that their employees cannot taste when they are picking, smell only.. Their picks definitely suffer from that short sighted corporate mentality.
I've never had the double oaked before how different is it from the normal woodford reserve. Normal is slightly sweet hint of peanut with a quickly vanishing finish for me. I find it incredibly smooth and easy to drink but very thin and lacking in flavor.
I think maybe I mixed my glasses up when I poured the Beer world pick next to the shelf doubled oak 😂. Thanks Kurt for the new terminology by the way. I thought the normal Woodford was stronger and the beer world pick was diluted tasting but I didn’t keep track which glass was which when I sampled and it possible I swapped them and didn’t notice. I’ll do another comparison this weekend.
Since this is my favorite bourbon, I’ve tried a few store picks, only to determine they add nothing to the standard bottle but price markup. And really, what does a store pick even mean in the case of Woodford DO? It’s aged in one barrel, then blended with other barrels and finished in a second barrel (the pick being the second barrel).
I'm starting to think that store picks are just an excuse to charge more money. However, I got an Eagle rare store pick that is delicious but that made it a single barrel as ER is made by blending with other barrels. That's the only bourbon store pick that I will buy these days.
This is my feeling on Woodford Reserve Double Oaked as my #1 favorite, if it ain't broke don't fix it. But with an Eagle Rare I would be glad to get more store picks.
My Brother picked me up a bottle, at the distillery. It was amazing, super complex and delicious. I've yet to buy an off the shelf bottle, that is half as good. 😢😭
Aren't pick meant to be better then the shelf which is why they cost so much more? So by picking the shlef bottle last yall picked out the shelfer correctly?
A few months ago I tried Cooper's Craft 100 proof chiseled & charred. I can not tell the difference from Woodford double oaked. I wonder whether either of you could distinguish which was which in a blind taste test.
Since DO is twice barreled and blended to a very consistent form before it goes into barrel #2, i can see why a DO store pick means very little (except $10 more a bottle) on this one.
In my experience, there can be a good bit of variance if you get a good pick... Last year, Charlotte Bourbon Society got to pick 3 barrels simultaneously, and I purchased bottles from 2 of the 3. One just tastes like a slightly amped-up standard Double Oaked (which is kind of what I expected), but the other was dramatically different, with some very pronounced cherry and chocolate notes. I describe it as "drinking an Old Fashioned with a bite of chocolate." I ended up buying a backup of that one, it was so good. But whether that difference happened in the first or second barreling stage, I don't have a clue; I have had regular WR store picks that were dramatically different too.
@@LeeDempsey I haven't been lucky enough to get a DO store pick so good info. There is always going to be variance from bottle to bottle even of the regular stuff, maybe I'll eventually find a store pick of DO and find out for myself.
The biggest challenge I see with Cask strength or higher proof is the burn. I am not talking about first sip, I am speaking to 2nd pour. I can see , if it's the first pour of the day, some heat, but when you go for the 2nd pour if heat exceeds flavor, you've missed the mark.
Yup, it's official. I'm calling this Squidward's Reserve from now on. Can't wait to go into the liquor store and ask the clerk if they have any squidward reserve.

Thx for sharing that! Love hearing that and for sure the best part of whiskeys and bourbon. Connecting!

Great show guys. I actually laughed out loud when Kurt said, "Well, you're young". Hilarious. I love WRDO so that was a fun episode. Cheers.

You guys gotta do a woodfood reserve blind with all their products
- original, wheated, malted, rye, and double oaked,
THAT WOULD BE EPIC !!
Just opened my bottle of WRDO. Never disappoints. Dark color, definitely butterscotch notes and marshmallow not a bad finish. Easy drinking. It’s been awhile, I actually think I’m going to go back to the store and pick up another. Nice summertime bourbon. Another enjoyable episode. Thanks for sharing.
I would love a Woodford Double Oak at Cask Strength.
Great job guys🎉🎉
One of your best videos boys! Woodford Double Oaked is a favorite….but you can never get enough Morning Wood! You guys crack me up…love it! Cheers!
I love the Double Oak.....keep doing great work...
please do this exact same blind again. I want to prove a point that you would pick differently based on any given day due to numerous factors
MORNING WOOD! That is Top 10 material!!!
There's no winning or losing in this kind of tasting. Just opinions, education, and good old-fashioned fun.
Some tape and a sharpie would be a really easy way to label who gave you the bottles & shout out the individuals who so generously gave them you
Right- as soon as you get it. Kinda stinks not to get recognized.
hands down the most entertaining whiskey channel! 😂
we can definitely tell the generation difference. Kurt says he doesn't have a paper and pencil to write it down. Trent says I need to "write" it down and grabs his phone. Don't worry Kurt, I'm with you on "writing" things down. Actually I'm older. Great show, keep them coming. TonyB
Received a bottle of Double Oaked from my daughter on Father’s Day. First time trying it.. man it’s good!
Great idea for a show, I have never seen anyone else do multiple Woodford Reserve Double Oaked store picks vs the shelf, if you can ever do that with other brands that would be interesting too. Great show thanks for the morning wood laugh😂

I agree with you. I have stopped buying them. I was really disappointed in the last 2 I had. Just staying with the original 😂
100%
8:41 I laughed way more than I should’ve with Trenton’s comment 😂
“He’s young” 😂 I’ve just started back with an actual collection and I bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked specifically off of y’all’s reactions to it and tasting notes of pancakes and syrup. Man is it good!
Very enjoyable video, loved the concept too!
I love watching the give and take between you two. You are costing me in trying the bourbons you try!
can u please explain how and why a store pick is different than the regular double-oaked?
A store or owner of a store will go to a distillery and taste different barrels from different locations in the warehouse. Then they "pick" one and purchase the whole barrel. It's dumped and bottled and a special sticker goes on the bottle with the store name. They are usually much better than a non store pick.

Usually a store pick is better than a random bottle
When I find a bottle I enjoy, and it's a store pic I try to get one.
Curt, you mentioned that you weren’t sure about the aging. I didn’t get a full response from Woodford but they did send me this.
Our Woodford Reserve Bourbon is aged an additional 8 to 12 months in a heavily toasted lightly char barrel before batching and bottling.
Glad you got around to doing this. Hope you enjoy! I forgot about the sticker.
Good show! You should put name tags on the necks for the people who give you bottles so you can easily remember them.
I had to rewind it three times, thanks for the laughs Kurt
“Well he’s young” I laughed my ass off! 😂
daggum goofballs. love it!
Huge Woodford fan and collector. I need one of these morning woods! 😂
Always fun doing side by sides! Just did the same with WRDO PS vs shelf… It’s not surprising that ya’ll were confused given that the PS program only allows you to select from three different blended profiles! All the laughing was great. Good to see you guys having such a good time.
😂😂😂 you guys need supervision
I picked one of these up from total wine and it's a unique pour that I enjoy after a savory dish. It's sweet and delicious. It's got the butterscotch thing but with a touch of maple and marshmallow.
Unfortunately morning wood now only lives in my memory along with Pappy bottles bought from the liquor store down the street at retail.
A Double Oaked Cast Strength would be awesome! Count me in!
It’s great to see you being a great father and son and having so much fun together.
I watch these videos to stockpile bottles to taste with my sons one day.

I'm going to echo a comment made below. I've only had the basic Woodford (80 proof) and was not overwhelmed.
Great show!!!!!

Love me some Double oaked. Woodford is great. 1910 is very good. Gotta get that Sagamore double oaked. That’s next! 👍🥃🤠🇺🇸
One of my favorite bourbons.
You can never fail tasting WRDO!!
This is an instant classic. Y’all are the best lol

Bought my first bottle of WDO last week, looking forward to cracking and comparing my tasting notes.
Im a newbie to Bourbon as we dont get many in the U.K but i finished this bottle in a week
Great show yet again 👍
I've always enjoyed watching, and usually learn something...but this was the first time I've giggled while watching. Good show!

There is no FAIL there are only happy savory lessons of bourbon whiskys
😂😂you 2 crack me up😂😂 great show guys!
Would love to see a video like this with the knob creek single barrel select barrel picks, it’s higher proof and they’re usually dark and delicious
I just had one that tasted EXACTLY like Booker's at less than half the price
In Texas, Spec's has a Woodford Reserve Rye store pick that is wonderful!!
I don't have any Woodford yet but it is on my list.
Good video!! Have you ever reviewed George Dickel No 12 signature blend?
You guys are the best…. Keep up the great content
Great review and yes these would be better at cask strength.
Cask strength WRDO would be awesome.
Great show guys… very entertaining! I was laughing the whole time with y’all. Love me some WRDO… one of my favs. 🥃✨
Lord have mercy! These one needs to be rated lol
I agree with some of the others and apologies to ask again but what does Store pick mean!
One of the major liquor retailers in my area has a corporate policy that their employees cannot taste when they are picking, smell only.. Their picks definitely suffer from that short sighted corporate mentality.
With regular Woodford batch proof coming in at $150 MSRP, I'm guessing a Woodford DO single barrel at cask strength would probably be around $200+
My goodness 😂😂😂
The show really goes off the rails when the ladies are absent. Lol
I've never had the double oaked before how different is it from the normal woodford reserve. Normal is slightly sweet hint of peanut with a quickly vanishing finish for me. I find it incredibly smooth and easy to drink but very thin and lacking in flavor.
Can never have enough of the morning wood...
Awesome video
Perfect timing! Saw a total wine Woodford double oaked pick yesterday, looking forward to hear what you think of these picks!
That one from Petite Cellars is really good. That one’s out of Maryland.
I didn't even realize WRDO store picks exist. I did wonder if WR would object to some of the punny pick names.
In order to remember who gave you what, get a piece of masking tape (or even a post it note) write on it and slap in on the back of the bottle
I like the ideas of cask strength Woodford Double Oak. 🥃
Total newb here so...what's the difference between the regular offering and a store pick?
Cask strength could be a great pick!
When mom is away the boys will play 😂😂😂😂😂

If you like to give credit, than do it, don’t make excuses.
Favorite toon: Top Cat (goat)

I just bought a WRDO store pick, and I'm excited to crack it and compare to my own shelf bottle. Interesting show, guys!
I'm never going to be able to drink this again without instantly thinking WeiRDO.
@@Robert.Sheard LOL! 😂
I need me a morning wood bottle 😂😂
Im thinking this one should have some great laughs!
Cheers from The Prairies of Canada! 🥃🇨🇦
This a very funny episode… the ladies shouldn’t leave you guys unsupervised.. 🤔🤨😜🤣
And the winner is Morning Wood!😅
Sorry to be uninformed...but what does "store pick" mean? 🙂
Great question!
What about the Double Double Oaked . You really can't go wrong with Morning Wood .
Ahhh Yaaa morning wood 😂😂😂
Just a FYI, all Woodford Reserve except barrel/cask strength is 90.4. ALL.
So you were saying that a shelf pick should be better then a store pics. Or did I hear you wrong.
