The people running Sony, much like most corporate executives and politicians, think that certain forms of media are harmful and that adults aren't capable of making sound decisions without their personal input.
@Devasta The Seeker and that should matter? Nobody's forcing anyone to play these games. People like what they like and if you don't like it personally then just look for somewhere else to go to instead of calling people names over something you have a personal distaste for.

Just wow, imagine treating your mature audience like they are children. What's the point in even having a mature rating anymore seeing how it's meaningless?
I pretty much always assume it's people too damn lazy to parent their own children. They expect companies and governments to do their job for them so they don't have to make critical decisions like not getting the wrong content for their stupid ass children.

But I also see the situations you are talking about, I had a customer once ask me why I had to do an age check for a game he was getting, and had to explain that M-rated games and R-rated films have an age restriction to prevent underaged purchases, he said that was stupid.
Ah yes, censoring games, that are rated for adults. Makes perfect sense. My adult mind might get corrupted by seeing drawings or animations of nudity or violence. Whatever shall I do?
@@jsmith3946 so why are. Extremely violent games allowed on consoles. After all by your own words it isnt rated for adults. Even though the biggest demographic of console gaming is done by teens and adults
Because the M rating is akin to the R rating, not NC17. (Kids can get into an R rated movie if accompanied by their parents. Whereas not so NC17) If the AO (the gaming equivalent of NC17) rating was in, use then you'd see a lot more games with that rating nowadays instead of M. @Charles Gnarley I see what you mean. Some people can't handle adult content at like 19 while others are into it at 16. It has to do with more of the person. However, having an age rating system that includes a rating for 17+ and another for restricted to 18+ only is kind of dumb. It's even more dumb when games that are rated 18+ still get censored. Here in the United States, the M rating just means 17+. And the games are always uncensored. Like Evil Within 2 is rated 17+ and is uncensored in the United States. However, in Japan it's 18+ and its censored. So it has to do with more on censorship rather than age. Age ratings are just a recommendation age. That way parents know what they buy for thier kids. If a game is rated 17+ it's clearly for adults. So an 18+ rating is pointless. Anyone 17 or over that can't handle it can simply not play it and let those who do wanna play it get to experience it uncensored.

Even though, it's probably the most disgusting sex scene I've ever seen in my life. It makes the sex scenes in ride to hell look classy. (yes I went there.)
Unfortunately I don't think this will happen. These types of VNs, dating sims, jrpgs are still more of a niche thing and Sony seems to want their image to be as a modern high quality graphic focussed and politically correct gaming company, they gonna promote games like the last of us or horizon zero dawn with strong female characters and I think Censored Gaming already has shown that the majority of the japanese market plays on smartphone or PC nowadays, so it won't hit them hard if a few niche games sell worse than their competitors. And as long as they don't touch big mainstream games like GTA, CoD or other popular triple A games, there's not going to be major damage on their image as the majority of people simply don't care because they aren't affected or even approve when fanservice gets removed on a few "weeb games".

@@claire6452 well that depends on the cultures and customs of a certain country. Say a game has imagery (Nazi symbols, certain political topics, etc.) that a certain country finds to be distasteful to outright offensive, it could be censored to avoid causing a stir in the society. In another case, depending on the game and age rating censoring scenes can make them fit said rating better. For example you have a kids game where a character dies, and the original scene shows the character being killed with blood everywhere. Of course that's too inappropriate for kids so it would be censored during production to be non gory so kids can still see it.
@@heehooobsessor7907 No. You don't sell them your product. Censorship isn't a solution. The vision shouldn't be changed to accommodate anyone. Do what you want, but don't show it to everyone. If your kid game has blood and violence, then it's not a kid game. What kind of dumb logic is that? If you want blood and gore, don't sell to kids. It's that simple. Censoring so you can "sell to everyone" is what make every media feel stale and boring. Everything ends up being the same shit. Make something for a specific audience, and don't bow down to the ones that might get offended. That's all there is to any kind of art or media.
Depends on the censorship. I’d say 85% is bad but like, there are some exceptions. Like say the guns in yugioh. Ignoring how hacky that dub is in general; the show was made for kids and pointing an actual gun at someone in media for kids is not gonna fly in the west. Also Fe fates, as much as I hate the dubbing on that game I’m not gonna lie and say cutting out Corrin drugging Soliel’s drink without her knowledge wasn’t a good call. Taking out the petting however, debatable honestly. And yes I know I’m not giving great examples but like I said, most censorship is dumb. I’m just trying to get across that the situation does have SOME nuance to it.
@@dragoncatoverload All censorship is bad period. Companies/governments telling you what you are allowed to watch is just idiotic. PS: Only because something looks like it's for kids, doesn't necessarily mean that it is.
Yugioh is for kids....One Piece is not. Japan tends to lump kids media into one big pile and you have to guess what age bracket it’s best for. Like you’re telling me a show about a children’s card game, is not for kids (ignoring season zero here). If they didn’t censor it none of its target audience would get to see it cause chances are the parents would stop them from watching it. Yes, censoring adult content in most cases (Ex: it’s on public televisions where kids might see it but that’s a different thing cause the uncensored version is available elsewhere) is dumb because adults are mature enough to decide what media they want to consume. Kids media it gets a little tricker. And honestly cultures be different, did you know they had to take out the Quran in Jojo because it’s super offensive to Muslims to have to displayed in media? Should they not be allowed to enjoy the rest of the show because of that tiny detail that has no bearing on the rest of the plot. I think that’s a topic for discussion.
@@dragoncatoverload I respect your opinion but censorship is never the solution to a problem. It massively cripples creative vision in every way. Also, who said Yu-Gi-Oh is for kids? People only assume that because they think that a card game is inherently childish.
This makes me curious, since Sony has been doing this for so long, if this was one of the reasons Nintendo didn't work with Sony for the 4th gen consoles. Like from what I know, one of the reasons Nintendo left the deal, was because Sony was trying to have power over the system in some way (I think part ownership or perhaps just extra pay for the discs), and maybe they were wanting to be more strict with games, when this was the era that Nintendo was trying move away from their kid-friendly and 3rd party over-controlling image.
@@GBDupree if you're talking about the cartridge to disc transition, it was Nintendo being too conservative (or traditionalist). A common problem in any large successful companies (either internally or due to shareholders).
@@magic_cfw Well I was talking about before that, when they were trying to make the "Nintendo Playstation" and then Nintendo and Sony split. I heard that Sony was greedy and trying to get more out of the deal than neccesary, and that's why Nintendo backstabbed them. As for the Cartridge thing, that's actually more to do with several factors. 1: they just made enemies with a major disc company and their other choice was the CDi. and 2: they believed that cartridges were still better. And they were right about that considering we still use cartridges in everyday life (flash drives, SD cards), and CDs are basically obsolete. But at the time it wasn't the best choice, since they were more expensive for less storage, but they were still superior otherwise.

Nah dude. Soyny is acting all woke. It's not about money anymore it's about power. They can control the content, but show whatever sexually explicit games they favor.. Ones that push propaganda. Like Last of Us 2.

I don't think so. SIE is based in California and are ideologically driven to censor now. The censorship will only get worse and worse and it will never ease up, even if/when it spells certain doom for the playstation brand.
Except history has shown that no matter how many times they let up, they always tighten back up the first moment they can. Why even bother with them when they have proven incapable of changing?
Companies, particularly gigantic corporations like Sony, can generally be expected to just do whatever they think will make them more money. If they think they'll get more money by pretending to care about something for PR, then they'll do that, and if they think they'll lose out on money from their competition not doing the same then they won't. Unfortunately, thus far, Sony's decision has proven to be the correct one for the company. The big sellers these days aren't from Japanese developers, they're from a bunch of Western "AAA" publishers. As long as Spider-Man, Cyberpunk, The Last of Us, God of War, and sports games continue to make all the money, they have little reason to change direction and risk making some of those customers mad when they find out Bullet Girls exists. Hopefully, if people keep giving them negative attention and press about it, they might be swayed to ease up, but with the PS5 constantly selling out despite having no games and costing $500, things don't seem great for fans of Japanese games on PlayStation consoles in the near future. All the people in charge see is that whatever they're currently doing is working.
Basically. The ps4 has proven to be a massive success in the west. With all the recent 1st party games being more catering to western audience, heck the big Japanese developers/publishers that have a good relationship with Sony are also focusing on a western market. Perfect example Square enix & their “ethics department” not to mention the recent shift of final fantasy games being action oriented rather than tradition Turn based RPG. Sony also has proven that they no longer care about AA/budget games, from their japan studios, they’ve never bothered making a new Ape escape game, gravity rush 2, wasn’t promoted enough, & freedom wars online multiplayer shut down in such a short time.
"making some of their customers mad when they find out Bullet Girls exist". Those weirdos aren't even 1% of the player base, just vocal and in control of/cahoots with the gaming "press" and western devs.
Wall St Journal claims that SONY is cracking down on "Explicit Content" in Japanese Games, but what SONY is doing is censoring mild or medium Ecchi content in Japanese Games. I often considered Explicit Content as something that referred to under the Hentai label, not something that would be considered as mild to medium Ecchi content.
there is the valid concern that people may misunderstand what appears to be a family friendly game for it's cartoonish appearance (there are some misleading media which does this as a gimmick. The combination of Moe and Gore). Though 100% of the time the labelling, description and media around it would give you the impression that it is obviously not. (I say this as someone who has watched... questionable anime long literally before I was able to understand what fanservice is)
When it comes to wanting physical releases, I hate that it's between PS4 physical 60fps (usually) but censored, or Switch physical but most likely sacrifice performance. Or you can say F it and just get the PC release (wish these had physical releases again.)
Never thought I'd see the day when I'd be turning to Nintendo for uncensored/original content. 0_o! But I'm sure all other platforms have their own (lesser known) version of the "Sony Check", except Steam/PC.
@@faiyez In a world where everything is censored to some extent, no-one would argue that Steam is by far the least filtered format and Sony, as of late, being the most.

Nothing surprising here, Playstation has always been following trends and the only reason they took the "mature gaming" attitude was because SEGA was doing that, now that political correctness is the trend they are ready to jump in, their target market is the broadest common denominator so it makes sense they want to avoid going against the current
Playstation used to be my go to system for third party games since they look and run better than Nintendo ports, for the most part. But now I'm buying less Playstation games since I'll never reward censorship. Sony might ease up if it affects their bottom line. Maybe it will, maybe it won't.
Yeah, but at least PC will always look better, and Nintendo will always be more portable. So Playstation really seems like the budget casual version of a PC without any of the benefits, and really not much cheaper. Plus, outside of Bloodborne and I guess God of War, Sony really doesn't have any good exclusives to make the system compelling (especially when they have become so same-y, like they all play basically the same, its like they have their own version of the "Ubisoft-open-world-game" problem). And history has shown that Sony will sometimes loosen up their grip on censoring, but will always tighten back up whenever they can. So why bother when they clearly will never change?
Sony is seemingly fine with whatever the hell that was in Last Of Us 2 and they didn't seem to have any problems with the customizable genitals in Cyberpunk 2077 but they're offended by waifu bait.
That seems to be the case, however Sony likely doesn't care about those because the big AAA 3rd parties are still releasing on their consoles (like Capcom games for instance).
Sony wouldn't care. Ever since the move they're obviously only focusing on Western projects for Western audiences. The better way would be for the Western audience to not purchase these games, but no one here has that level of restraint. At least, not enough people for it to make a difference. Maybe the scalpers did us a favor. With thousands of units being used by no one, maybe sales of games will actually suffer.
I'm confused. How come Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Switch was censored compared to the Wii U version despite Nintendo check not existing. Was that an Atlas decision?
Because it’s a first party title last I checked and some people say it’s because the Wii U version sold more of the censored copies in the west since the console basically bombed everywhere but collectively the censored version was in more regions so it sold more as a result.
@@AtelierGod it's a reason. However iirc the original censorship was a Atlus USA thing. I guess using the censored west version would be easier for localisation. Still a disappointment.

Its actually been that way for a LONG time. Nintendo only censored in the NES/SNES era, and mostly due to outside influence (the 80s game crash and the game-violence scare of the 90s). Since the N64 and onward they've been very nice and unrestrictive to 3rd parties and rarely self-censored until Nintendo of America started messing with some WiiU games. But that's been stopped recently. Nintendo just has a family friendly image, and people think that is enforced when its not, its just an image for the company and not something all games have to follow.
@@GBDupree You're right, I suppose nintendo's massive lack of third party support back in the day of the gamecube/wii kind of lowered the amount of examples one could see of them not censoring titles. Still, it's weird how they got known for something that they stopped doing so long ago. Maybe that family friendly image made people think they wouldn't tolerate things like that?
@@329link Yeah, basically. Even recently developers still say things like "I didn't think our game would be fit for the audience" or "I didn't think Nintendo would allow it". Its just this image that has hurt Nintendo for years, and they just can't shake it. Even now people are surprised to be seeing them be so open and willing to have games uncensored. My best guess is that the Sega commercials were just THAT influential. The "Nintendon't" ones. And couple that with 3rd parties leaving Nintendo in the 64 era, though that is for other reasons, giving the appearance that 3rd parties are hindered by Nintendo's strictness (rather than the real business reasons, such as Catridge space and price over the cheaper PS1 CDs). this was probably kept alive even during the Gamecube era simply because the sentiment was held up by PS fans and disgruntled Sega fans who saw Sega turn 3rd party. Basically the console wars didn't help. And of course Nintendo embracing the casual audience during the Wii didn't help, even though it didn't hurt since they picked up everyone that was pushed out by those same console wars. Nowadays no one really fights against consoles, so Nintendo has been steadily losing that image, but its been so ingrained into game society for so long, the classic definition of a Meme really, that people still haven't let go of it. But yeah, the history of video games are something I've always enjoyed and its interesting how perceptions and reality often conflict despite clear documentation and the recentness of it all.
sony don't censor everything, the upcoming Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy as an exsample, in no way has it been censored, and it's staying that way.
@Comander Cosmo You know you don't need Steam to get games on PC right? There are thousands of marketplaces where you can sell the game, or you can even sell it on your own site. The marketing suffers, but that doesn't stop the game from being released.
Today's Sony Check is quite different than the previous one. Before, it was Sony's platform simply having a generally stricter standard than other platforms such as the Saturn. The standard applies to every game in a generally unbiased way. Today, however, is that Sony shifted their operation to the US from Japan and became a California company, with rampant SJWs attacking everything they don't like. It is no longer a generally stricter standard, but an ideologically-driven, blatant double standard as many gamers have pointed out.
Funimation has been at the forefront of anime censorship, so its already a lost cause. Crunchyroll from what I know has done some stuff too, but never to the degree that Funimation is known for. Funimation used to be so popular because they fought the censorship that 4Kids was so famous for, and now they are just as bad, and much more anti-consumer and corrupt than 4Kids ever was. Not to mention the people working there are the biggest hive of scum and villainy ever. There's a reason that after buying Funimation, Sony immediately bought the more popular competitor. Regretful purchases will do that to a company.
Remember when Nintendo and Sony worked together until the collaboration with Phillips that could've been so much better, and how people probably still call out Nintendo for it? With the censorship fiasco going on, I don't think many people would care about those times now.
Sony is forgetting their Japanese market while fail trying to appeal to western market. Now microsoft is trying to appeal to Japanese, Sony is in a pinch of loosing exclusive deals right now. I miss the good ol days where my ps3 and ps4 japanese games don't have unnecessary "western" censorship. Those were playstation gold days where i can enjoy my exclusive in peace.
Remember kids, if conservatives and christians come and censor the stuff you like, like movies, cartoons, anime, games and music, and you don't like the censorship and fight back against them, call them out and demand your entertainment to be intact and unchanged, you're a hero, doing this is an honor, it's the right thing to stand up for your hobby. But if liberals, progressives, feminists, censor your entertainment, you're not supposed to fight back, because if you complain, you're an angry nerd, a virgin, a crybaby, an incel, you're worrying too much about small stuff, you act like they are taking away your toys, and your responses just prove that these people really are right.
@Cauliflower That excuse was already debunked, Sony censored all kinds of sexual content regardless of the age of the characters. And leftist censorship goes way beyond just that.
@Cauliflower Nope, Sony not only should be blamed for listening to the complaints of leftists, who became pretty much the same thing as those people who said violent videogames are turning children into murderers and Pokémon is satanic, and also since the PlayStation headquarters are now in California, it probably means that the leftists themselves are working there and made those censorships on their own will. Ok, I admit that companies have the right to censor their own products if they do it because they want, not because the government demanded it and they should have that right, but much of the censorship from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s was not demanded by governments either, and fans also have the right to complain and demand their products intact. The 1990s and 2000s was a time many games and anime were getting heavy censorship, then they realized that uncensored versions are more profitable, but now, even though those leftists that complaing about everything are not that many people, they keep getting the censorship they want.
No, it was mostly China's fault. Tencent (The oh-so hated company), linked to the Chinese Government, acquired 20% of Marvelous by new shares. That means forcing them to follow their "recomendations" in regards of NSFW in their games, because...you know, Chinese really hate this kind of stuff. Because of this tiranny and censorship, many staple figures of Marvelous like Kenichiro Takaki, the creator of Senran Kagura, regretfully left the company and moved onto other videogame projects. Sony was part of this, too, but they wouldn't care if they released these games on other platforms
The correlation is whenever Sony is doing really well they get cocky (something Nintendo knows a little something about) and then they think they can just start cracking down on content. During the PS3 and PSP days they wanted as many hands and eyes on their product as possible so clearly especially in Japan they wanted to be the "cool kid" that allowed edgier more risque content. once the PS4 turned out to be an enormous hit and they basically had no serious competition from either Xbox or the floundering Wii U with Nintendo they knew they could get away with anything. (and let's be honest once they cut ties with Vita and pretty much let it be it's own thing they didn't care what content was on that thing) The other thing is they are moving farther away from their eastern roots. After the HQ was moved to California their entire philosophy shifted immensely (I'm from/currently in California and I can tell you this is a fact) they have embraced the much more puritanical attitudes of the US (and the worst parts of the internet) and are almost entirely now focused on that region. I don't think Sony will ever come back to being itself again not after the changes they've made and the enemies they've created due to their new policies. I'd say for the foreseeable future it's Nintendo and PC. Never thought I'd say those two words together.
Sony is already americanized, they trying to remove any japanese influences, thats why i m also done with playstation, ps1-ps4 has given me a lot of joy, time to move on
Imagine just how restricting the Sonycheck must be for ecchi/thriller-game developers if they must re-censor their games compared to the Switch versions that are the already censored Steam versions of said games.
Some games get Censored on Switch, Steam and Xbox just because the PlayStation version is Censored and trying to be fair. Like some examples include the recent Fairy Tail game is Censored on all systems and Dead Or Alive 6 is obviously censored in all regions especially compared to DOA5(DOA6 is still sexy but is nothing like DOA5). Like the breasts in DOA6 are much more stiffer while DOA5 you can turn on the OMG mode to make breasts bounce a lot. You can also shake the controller in 5 to make the breasts bounce on your command. 6 has none of that and the clothing destruction in DOA6 is just awful it mostly just gives your opponent a couple of bruises on their face and a little rip. In DOA5 it was more closer to clothing destruction in Soul Calibur which made it great when Team Ninja partnered up with Marvelous for Senran Kagura outfits.
Sony hasn't made any good decisions in a while, so it's not looking good. Big companies usually wait until after a huge backlash to change their mind, since all they see is dollar signs. When those vanish they quickly change their minds. Thus proving their "morals" were all a sham to begin with.
@@flameshana9 so we don't buy the censored games and bring up our complaints. But there's still the crowd that complains about anime girls. Is that all we can really do?

@@Inari_the_Fox that’s also the fault of spike chunsoft too. They were complacent to Sony’s regulation. I’d like to remind you recently that one developer, & top hat studios made sure to voice out they would stand their ground & not censor their product. (XSEED recently did this with one of their games, Uppers..which was suppose to be on PS4, but got canceled & just released on PC) None of these developers have a backbone, XSEED could’ve just found a way to develop SK7 on other platforms, but they didn’t and accepted the series is dead. @@Inari_the_Fox yeah, Aegis rim should’ve stuck to the original script of the one character being a cross dresser. The Game is solid, but that ridiculous attempt to avoid outrage is just a pity...Atlus of America clearly is trying to avoid getting outrage mobbed on twitter & other social media platforms overall. Which is unfortunate that they’ve been doing this awhile. It’s funny that with persona 5R, they changed that one scenario with ryuji, & even after that alternated Dialogue scenario, people still ended up getting upset that the dialogue was still not good enough.
You didn't mention that only Japanese or anime styled games are suffering from this. Last of us 2 is the obvious example of how games get a pass if it doesn't feature anime girls.
Nah highly unlikely, gaming is larger than movies now. Sony going down bad again might happen tho , did once with ps3 and they had to be a lil more humble at the beginning of ps4 life span and end of ps3 until they hit jackpot again and went back to being assholes
I've noticed people in Japan appreciate brands from within their country, they tend to prefer putting faith in themselves first and foremost. By leaving the Japanese market behind in favour of Americans (and Californians, who are a whole different breed), it only makes sense that the Japanese market would, in turn, start to dislike Sony. Unfortunately for Japan, Sony is making a hell of a lot of money elsewhere. Fortunately for Nintendo, they haven't lost their roots just yet, and will likely see much more support from former Sony consumers in the future. I would not be surprised if Japanese developers almost entirely abandon PlayStation in the future in favour of their competitors, with only companies that have a large international presence, such as Square Enix, remaining on their platform.
@Comander Cosmo don't worry, developers and publishers alike will just change platforms or self publish. self publishing is in fact better for fans, because the developers get a better cut of your money.
@Comander Cosmo While Steam does censor some games, they do allow Devs to release patches that remove censorship. Just as long as the dev doesn't promote it on the store page. Made even funnier is the fact that you can find uncensored games on Steam as well.
It's been a long time since I decided not to buy a Sony console anymore... I only play on PC now. Sony is really trying more and more to move away from "controversy" and censoring art without a blinking... the only solution is to play on the PC, buying the game directly from Japanese websites (Most of which are still censored on steam, however, always less than on PS)... the negative point is that if you don't know Japanese, you have to wait for a good man to translate the game and make the patch available.
Great video! I'd just like to add that I think Sony's relaxing of their policies was done to counter Microsoft. It seems that around the launch of the Kinect, Microsoft started to change their policies as they wanted a more family friendly image. This was most noticeable with the game Gal Gun which was revealed uncensored, got a censored pre-launched trailer, launched uncensored, then they released the "Panties Protect Patch" post-launch to censor it. Sony then relaxed their policies and the game got an enhanced and even lewder PS3 port. Not just that but almost all of the 360 exclusive lewd games suddenly got PS3 ports (Dream Club and Oneechanbara Z: Kagura are the two that spring to mind) around that time. Gal Gun is the windsock of censorship.

@Orwellian Future Is Now Nintendo overtakes them? They’ve got a long way to go. The only reason they can get top of Microsoft and sony is by making sure that they uphold their software sales which means no sales and a potential increase in first party title prices.

Unnecessary censorship i'm always against.
"Necessary" censorship isn't a thing.
@@claire6452 That's what 4Kids did, and look where that got them.
@@claire6452 I agree..
But Money is their top priority... 🙄
Censorship is wrong. It's as simple as that.
And cowardly.
"niten-does that Sony doesn't"
just say "don't" like the sega commercials because its sounds sharper and catchy
"the Wall Street Journal is one of the oldest and authoritative source."
lol, 'authoritative' is not really a good descriptor for the publication.
WSJ spun the GME squeeze as being the work of "intolerant white supremacists" trying to gamify the stock market and out gun noble career investors. If that doesn't out the WSJ as having zero credibility, then their usage of completely unrelated identity politics to spin the peasant class beating the hedge funders at their own game should at least signal the publication's baldfaced ambitions as a propaganda source.
authoritative isn't a descriptor to anything in Mainstream Media these days. They lie, misinform and deceive to push their agenda all the time, and they have a huge disdain for us gamers, weebs and fucking degenerates in general.
That surprises me that it was a problem even back in the 6th Gen. Especially remembering God of War 1 & 2. Is that difference because it was an SCEA game?
Nah dude. Soyny is acting all woke. It's not about money anymore it's about power.
They can control the content, but show whatever sexually explicit games they favor.. Ones that push propaganda. Like Last of Us 2.
Well it definitely seems that they aren't strict with their own games, especially when it seems that the problem they have is with anime styled games, and God of War is more realistic. But that being said, even I never knew it was a problem with them for so long now. I know a lot of gaming history, but that slipped past me.
This just reminded me of something, maybe you at censored gaming should take a look at the original Drakengard for the PS2. It became somewhat infamous for just how much of it had been censored for the western release.
Consider me personally intrigued. I've never heard of that game.

And then babies start raining from the sky.

Same here. Sony needs to stop treating their player base like children.
Except history has shown that no matter how many times they let up, they always tighten back up the first moment they can. Why even bother with them when they have proven incapable of changing?
@@GBDupree And this is why I refuse to buy a PS5.
Thanks for your work, mate.
I really hope a lot of companies will refuse Sony censorship and no longer make Sony versions. Make those idiots bleed. Go woke, go broke.
Be looking like they aren't treating adults like adults anymore
i cant believe nintendo is more mature friendly than sony now
Wall St Journal claims that SONY is cracking down on "Explicit Content" in Japanese Games, but what SONY is doing is censoring mild or medium Ecchi content in Japanese Games.
I feel you on that one. No physical releases on PC is why I stopped playing on PC years ago.
Never thought I'd see the day when I'd be turning to Nintendo for uncensored/original content. 0_o! But I'm sure all other platforms have their own (lesser known) version of the "Sony Check", except Steam/PC.
Steam has a Sony check as well. And of course all consoles defer to ratings boards, and Nintendo is no exception.

Nothing surprising here, Playstation has always been following trends and the only reason they took the "mature gaming" attitude was because SEGA was doing that, now that political correctness is the trend they are ready to jump in, their target market is the broadest common denominator so it makes sense they want to avoid going against the current
I wish you brought up the DLC voted costume issue with Nora Cats here too, just because that was such BS.
The only way I can see this getting fixed is Japan makes a concerted effort to not release games on the PS5 until changes are made at Sony.
Many of them already have by releasing games that were on Playstation but future games being for Switch.

While they have been more light on it with the Switch, back in the WiiU, 3DS and before there was censorship with many english releases of games. Bravely Default 2, Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates, Fatal Frame, TMS #FE, etc. The reason why they rereleased TMS censored? I don't know, but probalby it is due to copyright.
@@heitorbatista5392 TMS wasn't a copyright issue but its laziness combined with muh global standards (censoring "problematic" elements which would offend twitter / normies overseas) and it being handled by NoA/Atlus USA who tend to be pretty censorious towards JP games if given the opportunity.

I am loving the irony that Nintendo, who was notorious for censoring games in the 80s and 90s, is now releasing games uncut, while one of their biggest rivals is now getting all the flak for doing that shit. Never has it been more fun to be a Nintendo fan.
We live in a day and age where the nintendo console has less censorship. Think about that.

The correlation is whenever Sony is doing really well they get cocky (something Nintendo knows a little something about) and then they think they can just start cracking down on content. During the PS3 and PSP days they wanted as many hands and eyes on their product as possible so clearly especially in Japan they wanted to be the
"cool kid" that allowed edgier more risque content. once the PS4 turned out to be an enormous hit and they basically had no serious competition from either Xbox or the floundering Wii U with Nintendo they knew they could get away with anything.
This happen when Sony put their HQ in USA.
But it has happened since the PS1 era. It is based on Sony’s mood not where they are at.
So where do we stand exactly? Are there any signs of things getting better or are we still in the same situation?
Sony hasn't made any good decisions in a while, so it's not looking good. Big companies usually wait until after a huge backlash to change their mind, since all they see is dollar signs. When those vanish they quickly change their minds. Thus proving their "morals" were all a sham to begin with.
@@flameshana9 so we don't buy the censored games and bring up our complaints. But there's still the crowd that complains about anime girls. Is that all we can really do?
Japan Aways get popular stuff
I'm still mad Sony's policies killed the popularity of Zanki Zero in the west.
That was a good game, and we didn't even lose much through the censorship, it just made grinding annoying.
Damn, how is the game series?
@@thecompareablezombie It wasn't a series. Just one game. Zanki Zero: Last Beginning.
It was a fun dungeon real time action dungeon crawler with crazy sci fi elements. You could really feel that the danganronpa developers made it.
@@Inari_the_Fox that’s also the fault of spike chunsoft too. They were complacent to Sony’s regulation.
I’d like to remind you recently that one developer, & top hat studios made sure to voice out they would stand their ground & not censor their product.
Spike could’ve easily just canceled the ps4 release in favor PC, to keep it from getting any alterations. (XSEED recently did this with one of their games, Uppers..which was suppose to be on PS4, but got canceled & just released on PC)
None of these developers have a backbone, XSEED could’ve just found a way to develop SK7 on other platforms, but they didn’t and accepted the series is dead. (Countering what they did with uppers.)
Koei Tecmo, with DoA6 just to get the game taken more seriously as a fighting game, losing a good chunk of the fan base it.
Square enix, and their ethics department.
ATLUS, altering dialogue for Persona 5R, Catherine full body, & 13 sentinels aegis rim.
@@maroXUprising oh My God atlus.( I haven't played aegis rim so take this with a grain of salt) but I'm still mad they changed one dialogue option to imply that a character is non binary. In the original script that character was a simple crossdresser. There aren't enough femboys and crossdressers in games, and they take away that representation for a different one.
4:38 You mean as it should be? wow what a concept
You didn't mention that only Japanese or anime styled games are suffering from this. Last of us 2 is the obvious example of how games get a pass if it doesn't feature anime girls.
I will rejoice when the second games industry crash occurs.
Then new game devs rise from the ashes, to create a anti Greedy/inflirateable Industry.
Sony is a garbage platform. Stick to PC and, I guess, the Switch (for now).
Don't you watch any Sony Pictures movies?
@@gnaurai6251 Microsoft cannot censor animes
It's been a long time since I decided not to buy a Sony console anymore... I only play on PC now.
Sony is really trying more and more to move away from "controversy" and censoring art without a blinking... the only solution is to play on the PC, buying the game directly from Japanese websites (Most of which are still censored on steam, however, always less than on PS)... the negative point is that if you don't know Japanese, you have to wait for a good man to translate the game and make the patch available.
Theres no gamers on their ratings board
