Oh how I enjoy your tutorials! I turn 70 this month, always wanted to play the violin. My husband said "go for it girl .. I'll pay. Guess what .. I'm taking him up on his offer. I'm off to the violin music store to select a rental. (Will start with that first). 2 years ago I learnt to read music - was another thing I always wanted to be able to do. What absolute joy and hours of it too, I can now finally sight read any melody and have gotten to know so many of these wonderful famous composers like, Bach, Clementi, Brahaams, Chopin and hundreds more. Thank you for your videos .. it has absolutely inspired this OLD LADY ..

I'm 70 and just picked up the violin, too. I play saxophone in a concert band but always loved violin. Good luck to you. I love these videos.

Glad I found you. You're making it easier for me to learn. I'm 63 playing instruments since I was 6. I play many instruments, mostly drums, bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards. My Grandfather played an Amati. Mother plays Parlor Grand. I always wanted to learn violin. You make it easy for the beginner. Thank you.

Your videos have been the most informative I have found so far for beginners. You don't skip over important details and I learned a lot. Please make some more! Or maybe someone can recommend some other good tutors for beginners.

Hi, I have just been gifted a violin as a present after loving this type of music, admittedly more traditional Scottish/Irish/Bluegrass fiddle type music, and wanting to play for years! Trawled through TH-cam for beginners lessons I could relate to and pick up easily and found you! Thank god for that! Just like to say thanks for explaining things so simply, I find your lessons very informative and easy to follow and am enjoying learning. Thanks a million.

just started violin at 63 yrs old, I'm left handed and visually impaired so not a lot in my favour you'd think. I play guitar left handed but the violin feels perfectly natural right handed which has amazed me. Your videos are perfect for me as reading music is not possible as I can't see it, so learning scales as in this video and playing by ear is my aim. Your relaxed style and encouragement is just what I need. I'm enjoying the violin much more than I thought I would. Many thanks

You are a seriously amazing teacher. You make everything so simple and logical. I'm 56 and played 40 years ago all through school and never thought I'd be able to pick it up again. I got a new violin and took a couple days to work out the kinks. But within 2 days I was playing twinkle twinkle. Look forward to more of your teachings.

These videos are great. Thank you so much. We've had a violin donated to us by a family friend and here I am at 48 learning to play the violin. :-) I am torturing everyone in the house but much less so now that I have these videos :-D I'm kicking Twinkle Twinkle in the bootay. And am impressing my 11 year old with my super scaling skills haha
We're homeschoolers too Anne Green. My daughter takes formal piano lessons and now ... we have violin ... WITH free mini-lessons! Isn't youtube awesome?! You can learn anything with just a click.
Thanks again Dylan. You're a treasure.

Watching your lesson 4 and totally love it however seeings I am a beginner I do have a couple of questions. How do you do a vibrato if you have a open string that you are not putting your fingers on ? The second question that I have is that I am really having a tough time curling my fingers around to press down on the strings, is there any thing that I can do or finger exercises I can do to assist fingering the strings better? Your videos are helping me out a lot but I have to get over this obstacle. I do have long arms and fingers and am a adult learning.

You actually responded to me! That's amazing!!! You're wonderful for actually taking the time to answer! But what is your opinion on a 1/2 violin mute. I live in an apartment and I don't want to ruin anyone's day when I start playing.. And the other is there a specific shoulder rest that you suggest for 1/2. Thank you so much!

So I'm up to this lesson and am really enjoying this. Right now the thing I seem to have the most trouble with is what I'm going to call bowing accuracy. I'm referring to just hitting the strings I want and not the neighboring ones. I find it helps to watch my bow as much as I can while playing. But I'm wondering, are there exercises for this?
