Ned's clip was a completely unexpected offstage reversal down air spike. Fatality's, while still cool and hype, was more or less just regular Captain Falcon advantage state.

That edge guard in game 4 was absolutely nuts. Also, every game is last stock last hit. So far the set if the tournament, for sure.

I love fatality but God I wanted Ned to win so badly. This would have been a huge W for Sephiroth. Nonetheless it was a great set. Fatality is insane. I don't know any other Cpt Falcon main who can recover as well as him

For all my seph mains, octoslash at ledge is really good at sniping recoveries. It's a bigger commitment then down air, but it's easier to hit since it's a multihit and comes out at a better angle

This was an amazing set and glad to see a Falcon in top 8 of a pretty big tournament. Ned could've definitely won some games however if he let it rip on some edgeguards and didn't do some panic options but a lot of people makes mistakes in a pressured situation like this. Both of them did amazing

Fatality's recovery mixups and timings will always be impressive to watch. Even up against characters with broken edgeguarding, it is super rare to see Fatality get gimped
Kinda a shame how Seph's weakness like his height, weight, and frame data give him a bunch of horrible matchups like Fox, Sheik, Diddy Kong, etc. Hope Ned and Tweek can put in more work for the character though, as both are amazing players
Idk why Tweek randomly dropped Sephiroth for a while and decided to use him a bit recently. He was doing surprisingly well with him online and tournaments back then then randomly just shut him off lol

@@oneofthekindscarf8612 Because Sephiroth is not that good as character, at best he is a mid high tier. He has some pros like amazing range, damage output, superb edge guarding, can kill early and has a come back mechanic...sounds amazing right?
Well, no. All his pros are massively eclipsed by his weakness. He has a tipper mechanic which sometimes makes Seph unable to kill a light weight past 120%. He has massive ending lag and some starting lag as well making him THE ONLY character in the game that cannot whiff punish. He has a tall character hurtbox.but he is so light that after 40% you are on death range( Comeback activates at 80% lmao) unlike terry, his comeback mech does not stay on.
He is the only character in the game that has 3 character archtype weakness : Zoners, rushdowns, small characters.
Another weakness he has is that a playet has to be extra precise with seph otherwise your attacks cant even connect against middle size characters such as wolf.
Starting to get comfy with the deep up B edgeguards, i like it.
There were a couple times Ned sniped his jump but still didn’t go for the edge guard, I assume he was expecting an early falcon dive but still expected to see some more edge guards come out

Yeah he definitely could have edge guarded more. That's a huge advantage seph has over falcon in the mu and he didn't capitalize on it. Many instances where he could have just flat out won if he committed off stage a bit more.
Definitely agree. Ned reverse edge guarded him better than actually edge guarding. He played quite defensively for most of the set. Don't blame him though, the pace of this match is quite overwhelming for Seph.

I thought the same thing. Shielded octoslash should always be a hard punish. But in the moment it's hard to account for everything. Up B is pretty much falcons safest oos option other than footstool falcon kick so fatality definitely auto piloted a bit there. But fatality was just simply not performing at his peak this tourny. Way too many situations that were way closer than they should have been. But he was still able to clutch out top 8 which is cool to see.
I will preach this until the day I day, Fatality's disadvantage & offstage game are absolutely fucking godlike

@@jaaddly4622 throughout the tournament he was dropping stuff he wouldnt usually if he was playing on point. He still played well but definitely could've been better
I swear every one of those five games went to last stock last hit. Really there was absolutely nothing to choose between these two players.
Ned really should have mixed up his Hell's Gate ledge trap with a Down Smash every once in awhile. Fatality drifted back about 98% of the time to dodge the hell's gate, and Down Smash would have taken the stock numerous times.
Down-angled ftilt would've been a much better mixup. Downsmash offstage is slower and much weaker, filt sweet spot would have hit the same area quicker and can kill under 100%
Breaks my heart to see Sephiroth miss so many edge guards.

22:45 wow I really liked how ned went off stage but manage to play safe and clutch, yet still went for a fair, that triple jump is really powerful for these kind of security
It is so great to see fatality finally playing like a top player in ultimate, it felt like a lot of the early lifespan of the game he just had so many flubbs in his gameplay but now he has really found his stride

He actually made a top 8 not that long ago at CEO in early december, placing 4th out of nearly 700 entrants. He also top 8 two other huge tournaments last summer with 2nd place at Ultimate WANTED 3 and 5th at InfinityCON 2021, where he lost to Ned, funnily enough. He has really gotten strong results since offline competition returned, you love to see it.
Great showing from both players! Ned is an excellent elite competitor but if he wants to breaks through into the realm of the gods, he really needs to utilize Seph's entire toolkit
Not using reverse Octoslash for edgeguarding in lieu of ledgetrapping really hurt him this set
Yes the window is tight against falcon since that UpB can get a nasty reversal but he needs to to do it *because* its hard.
Thats the difference between Gods and Elite players in not just smash but all forms of comp. Gods know when to use the unsafe stupid options in the safest and smartest way possible. Elite players not so much

This video is playing at, like, 1.25x speed. I'm sure of it. Immediately, I noticed Sephiroth seemed to be moving too fast. Then I looked at the timer, and those aren't full seconds counting down. Why would they do that?

it seems that he does not use Captain Falcon's powers except only to return back to the stage. UP + B is an excellent combo when doing 2 up kicks in the air. when falling from the air at a 45 degree angle is an excellent time for DOWN + B. when spaced apart horizontally is a great time to use LEFT/RIGHT + B to close the distance.
3:27 why do all Sephiroth mains go for that b reverse? Does it actually do anything?
It doesn’t “do” anything per se, it’s just sort of a movement tech to pressure the opponent. In this particular case, Ned uses turnaround b-reverse Flare to bait out a defensive reaction from Fatality without having to commit too hard to the edgeguard.
If Fatality jumps or air dodges here anticipating a bair or Flare, Ned has shifted his momentum back towards stage with the b-reverse and double jump canceled, allowing him time catch it with a fair. Fataity didn’t bite though, and drifts in for a low recovery. Ned still has stage control from this interaction though.

As a Sephiroth main it is for movement options, Sephiroth's neutral b is the perfect tool for aerial movement (especially when it comes to the wavebounce/b reverse mechanic)
I'm a heavyweight player but Mario and Captain Falcon are my favorite characters to watch in tournament play. So damn explosive.

Watching players dissect each other is always a treat. Cpt falcon isn't the flashiest but fatality makes you think otherwise. This matchup is in sephiroths favor no doubt. We've seen it enough times though where pros will win in bad matchups on a regular. Gg to both players.

I noticed that Ned stopped using his side b altogether after the first or second game (I'd have to rewatch to confirm) which is a huge mixup opportunity he missed out on.

@Clippy I disagree. They commentate like sports casters do, giving a play by play of the action, while interjecting information about the moves themselves. They also gave info on the players and clearly know what they are talking about.

If you have 1 stock and the opponent has 3 stocks when you get your wing at 1 stock let's say you are doing the comeback, well when you and your opponent finally have both 1 stock and have even % the wing disappears

Ned played incredibly well, especially with the dair spike to win the game, but his edge guarding was abysmal. He was going for dair at the ledge, and couldn't hit it even once, after 8 to 10 times trying. I think by then, it's time to try some other options like down tilt to hit below the ledge, spacing a 2nd degree charged gigaflare, or a short hop octoslash at the ledge

I was rooting for Griffin, but Ned's Sephiroth is inspirational and I'd like to see the character more as he doesn't have enough representation, IMO.
It's due to how difficult it is to control Sep. Similar to when Joker first came, most weren't able to bring out the best in the character. I say Ned has room for improvement compared to Fatality

Much harder to land because Sephiroth can pretty easily keep himself out of raptor boost range or beat it out with any disjoint, especially when he has wing which he did have for a lot of the set.

Sephiroth loses his wing after killing Falcon, so.... if it wasn't a star KO Ned would have also lost a stock due to not having the extra jump.

Good catch, really makes much sense, ned couldn't have predicted wether it would've bin a star ko or not, so his risky play may be costly at times

That was a neat thing to point out. I had to test it myself to see if it would really matter. It turns out without the jump Seph would still make it back. He would just have to fully charge it after reaching the max height after his first jump.
