I met mester Allen in Sheffield once after a university of errors gig. He's a gent and although i don't really like the term "hero" he is one of mine and all the Gong stuff is great.I love their sense of humour and how they convey a grand idea without taking it all too seriously. The first time i heard Hillage was on Gong's "You" album it blew my socks away down the street. Daevid's writing and style have influenced me a lot,he's a very wise and lovely chap with a wry smile and the wit to match. X

Several years back I went to one of Daevid's solo concerts. He allows anyone to go backstage to meet him. Great guy!

So much older and they still have the spark. Not least the spark in Allen's eyes. And we get a brief background to Hillage being inspired by Hendrix.

That's the sort of view and critic that i surely expected from guys that i respect so much... They're not "getting older", they're, just as we, absurded with the way the world it is nowadays... Great view of a art history... Not only musicians, but ARTISTS...

the philosophy they have of downloading all for free is especially BANG-ON!
another aspect of that is it weeds out those trainded puppets whose label does all the work and they just mime on stage or dont/cant do live at all.
a "real" band does gigs, earns from doing gigs, and that'll never change!

There will always be haters, even if they don’t they just want to be oppositional,
I always find David charming, witty and very wise, intuitive, listening to them gives a real sense of freedom that I’ve never experienced since, I know he’s riding his flying teapot up there among the stars, cause that was his intention... thanks. David for the magical gong experience, will never really grow old...💕💗💕

Gong were the first Band (And the second act, after Mike Oldfield) that Richard Branson signed to Virgin Records. The spark that lit the Branson / Virgin Empire.

in the young ones, one episode, neil becomes a copper and busts a party. he smashes the stereo then realises "OH NO! Steve Hillage!"

Yes; Steve was not happy about that, but in recent years has used the clip in the intro videos to his concerts. I wonder if you'll get a notification of this reply, 10 years after your comment.

Despite Steve's optimism, the music "industry" has gotten steadily worse. Jeeze, if he thought 2008 was bad, wait a dozen years or more and weep, weep for an era long gone

How refreshing that Steve & Daevid also dislike wiggly vocals. The fake R&B is full of it.

  • @stephenmeinhold5452
    @stephenmeinhold5452 3 ปีที่แล้ว

sadly downloading music for free will not change the music industry its impact is minimal and that's according to official research done by universitys.
It's people that need to change their view of what music which is very limited, broadening their horizons so to speak listening to other stuff other than commercial pop, rap, electronic music etc.
which anyone that has a grasp of Ableton or Qbase could knock out in their sleep.
as long as there are people that are willing to be exploited and buy that stuff It will always be there.
but in the meantime, there are artists like these guys and many many more like them so people with a broader sense of music can listen to real music without throwing up

Their beef with "wiggly singing" is shared by me as well! They call that, "Mellismas" [sp?] and it's been done to death by the less talented. I wonder if
someone encourages them whilst singing in the choir at church..."It's great when Stevie Wonder does it." 'nuff said? Hillside Village & Divided Alien seem
genuinely focused and far from drug addled sixties casualties.

Nope. Pip Pyle and Dave Stewart appeard on that LP though. Hillage featured, "Electric Gypsies" in an epsiode where Neil smashed the party as a policeman.

Alright Mr Sharpstrings! Yes Steve, you tell it like it is! There HAS to be a better way besides all these ridiculously large corporations brainwashing their respective audiences and the pilfering of artists by those others. 1000%!!
Just remember, folks, way back in '64, Capitol records WOULD NOT have released 'Meet the Beatles" in America without a mandate from corporate parent EMI)UK) Peace, Davros
