This is equal parts crazy, spooky, magical, spacey, bewildering and all together simply amazing. Thanks.
una pequeña demostracion de la alucinacion de semejante he increible banda
que bien hizo David Allen(voz)de separarse d soft machine y regalarnos con su "desbordante" música
you forgot compelling, addictive :)
i found the crystal machine appealing, but i was introduced to this album coming on to a tab (weak, last one i've had in teh dacades) and realising the two dudes hanging out were using this to invite me for a threesome :p just had to watch to try and lose that. the bathtub didn't help.
Those are all descriptors I want someone to use for my art someday
@@atomictraveller Tim Blake had the crystal machine, if my memory serves me right
The Right Stuff
Used to go on camping trips in the late 80s we used to go meet our man for a fresh strip of strawberries 🍓 then onto the camp fire with our ghetto blaster with all our gong cds at the ready ☮️✊🏽
My favourite Gong track. The guitar solo on the album version is probably the most beautifully crafted solo ever played.
I've always thought that as well!, pity he doesn't reproduce it so faithfully here, another underappreciated solo is by Charlie Whitney of Family, from the allbum Bandstand, listen to the song 'Glove'...
Rest in Peace, my Magick Brother. The world is a better place for you having been here, and I am a better human being for having gotten to speak, be with, and sing with you. Your music will live in my heart, mind, and immortal soul for all time.
I'm so happy that I got to meet him at a festival in my own village in Kent with my three week old daughter. He was super nice and went out of his way to find a pen so he could sign my ticket and draw a pot head pixie on it. Magickal Daze!
In 1973 I was 4. Now I’m 56 and Mesmerized by this. Where have I been this whole time. Probably playing drums for a punk rock band. Just wow.
One of the most original envelope pushing and quirky, unique bands ever along with Devo.
And Les Claypool....also would have loved a 'Silver Apples' and a 'Gong' collaboration...that could have been interesting....
@@3lullabies
That would be certainly well out there and a lot to get one's head around. Les is about as quirky as they come and a very imaginative, innovative artist. Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, The Residents and Zappa too.
@jamesrowden303
Anti-pop I would say and doing their own thing whatever others think and whether they get it. True artists.
Fantastic! Just came across this - used to have most of their albums since Camembert, saw them live once.
Amazing rhythm section.
Soft Machine, Camel, Caravan, Egg, Gong. No more words, Canterbury is the best prog scene ever!
Not forgetting Hatfield & the North and Matching Mole.
Camel IS NOT from the Canterbury scene.
canterbury isn't progressive rock
No, it's better than that hahaha!!
YES CANTERBURY SCENE WAS THE BEGINNING OF PROG YOU DOLT!!!!!!!
I had the privilege to see that band at Québec City, in 1997. It was simply magic!!! The crowd was hysterical! From memory, I have rarely seen so many recall requests.
Cracking performance from an eccentric and talented band with a great front man in Daevid Allen. Rest in peace David.
RIP Daevid was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you, at Bath Pavilions with my then boyfriend in 1996.
Just the thing for a head full of mushrooms! Angel's egg is an extraordinary piece of work, to say the least. Steve Hillage really floats my boat.
+Robert Tunnah yes I agree an all time great concept album, entertaining throughout
Awesome! - an old friend of mine who is no longer with us introduced me to the Genius of Gong about 25 years ago with the epic Radio gnome invisible part 2 - flying teapot masterpiece and still a big fan after many a mind fuzzing late night. Cheers Graham wherever your soul maybe now.
I never get tired of hearing GONG! One discovers something new everytime one listens to GONG!
Hell, I not only listen to Gong, I like saying the word Gong, I even like typing the word Gong; how Gongishly cool is that?
i love them..I have many blurred memorys listening to them ;)
Those hats! I'll never forget tripping on mushrooms 3 feet in front of this freak on Halloween night at Berbati's Pan (Portland OR) 1996.! The stage was only up to my shin. Best concert EVER! The show was billed (literally printed on the tickets) A Psychedelic St Paddy's Day with The Legendary Gong.
You gave so much & took so little, your presance upon the earth was a joy for all who were open to receiving your wisdom. Glide forever Vale Daevid Allen RIP
Gong helped me through some difficult trips!
An English friend introduced me to Gong around '96 or '97, with the Gong "You" remixed CD. I liked it a lot, so he then introduced me to the original work. Oh, the fun times we had in Hong Kong in those days! Still love Gong.
Those kids were blessed to have experienced that genius performance. And the band were kids.
ciao mio caro Daevid ... ho sempre ascoltato la tua musica...e sempre continuerò a farlo ... long live GoNg !!!
Half a million views for my beloved Gong.Long live The Alien.
The drummer is absolutely awesome!!!
I'd like to thank everyone for all the great, entertaining comments on here. I've read them all. Glad you enjoyed!!
Ok, wow, that's some well arranged and tight playing with wonderful chops and imagination!
Fanastic video! Whatever other music I've been into over the years, the magic of Gong has always been with me. Great musicianship, fun, spirituality, positive vibes and originality all in one unique package :-) Eccentric he may be by traditional standards, but Daevid is one of the most wise and together people I have ever had the fortune to come across in this mad world!
Nice! I've never seen video of Gong before.
Incrível Anos 70 e sua juventude transgressora e criativa! Vida longa ao Rock'n'Roll !!!
Thanks, I certainly enjoyed this. I'm a Gongster for 40 years now. First gig at Walthamstow Assembly Hall 1973.
So happy that i could see them just one year before Daevid's final trip. He still had much energy and magick left, that old gnome ☺
Always am amazed how the hats have all ways got so much energy to guide the way . i need a hat that has got all that imagination so beautiful to see . Gong such an inspiration to music at that time .. im sure i saw them in cornwall xx
first time I heard gong was when I was 14 dropping my first acid, this music made for the most memorable experience, I will never forget , flying teapot took me to a place that is imprinted on my mind forever!!!
Are you me?
best comment of all time.
It was Crimson for my first acid voyage, but I caught up quickly to Gong, I don't like to say it, but man oh man music was truly better back in those days
same but it was camebert electrique
This music is so great and ingenious because it's unique. Hooray! Real entertainment...
Think I MAY have mentioned this before? But I was SO lucky as a 15 year old to see Gong with Camel at the Stadium Liverpool . . . . .AND with the blessed Clare Murphy . . . .WOW, eh? .... HAAAAAAAAA
steven pike Did u see him? wuohhhh!!!! :)
Crazy, freaky, jazzy and fonkey!!!! Saw S.H. on his first solo tour in Germany - what a gas ;-)))
The garden gnomes they found in the cannabis patch
Lol Thinking something along those lines as well.
I think these gnomes found the psilocybin mushroom patch....
Those are Pothead Pixies.
It goes further than that you should check my walls.
Little bit more than cannabis.....
Why don't you partake and jump on in..... 🍄
Top notch, the one and only Gongsters, big part of my musical life - nothing quite like them. Their modern lineup is still doing good gongsongs in the right spirit. RIP Dave and Gilli, see you on the other side of the teapot, thanks for all the allness........
The real gong show, gnomesayin'
I start every day with this!
A cup of industrial strength tea, thanks Daevid.
I’ll admit I came to take the piss out of the old hippies. Then I came back again. And again. And again. Now......makes me want to hear more of them. Wherever Daevid is now I’m sure he’s pleased he’s got a convert.
An incredible example of Syncopated singing and rhythm.
So fell in love with this loopy song ... never heard of this band before when I thought I was clued up on my prog rock music, now I’m hooked.
every day i discover a new really good band
Try Orquestra Voadora from Brazil , Amon duul ii early stuff and Ray Barretto if you are tired of top 40 radio crap .
I worked for them as monitor engineer just for one gig in Rome, about 25 years ago. they were still amazing
Spotify put this on one of my discovery playlists and I was convinced this was a nameless 2010s band trying to emulate King Gizzard. I was very wrong.
More like the other way around
@@fernandomaron87king gizzard isn't as far out in terms of vision or musicianship
A true original among true originals. Thank you, Daevid.. for everything.
+The Loony Department +1
I listen to this over and over, and all I can think is "I need a gnome hat, stat!".
It is really amazing to have this clip, it's like seeing some Lemmy-era Hawkwind in the studio, a real treasure.
