Welcome to the throw away society Kenneth ! Two of my digital cameras are already Broken, one after 4 years(pentax k30, only black pictures) one after 8 years.(canon g15 colors are totally off).....!!! My fm2n and F3 and just seem to be still going strong and on and on and on......were did we go wrong??
I had very similar happen to my D610 a year ago. I had been taking a lot of astro subs and trying time-lapse projects so using shutter a lot. I think a repair was quoted around £200. I stuck it on ebay and amazingly sold it broken for £140. Bought a used D600 from 6mth warranty online retailer for c. £280 so I felt a pretty good result. I was amazed at the broken value on these - I guess those that know how to repair can turn then around with little additional cost
Wow, sorry to hear that your D610 came to grief! When I was street shooting (my film days, I always had 3 bodies in my Domke bag) My F90 or N90s, my FE2 and my FM2n. (I painfully recall my Nikon Coolpix 110AW coming to grief, just outside the 2yr warranty. That bites!) Hope you find a solution here.
In a somewhat related incident, I went to visit family last summer and took a bunch of photos with a 10-year old D7000. Though discontinued I bought it new in 2014 and have always been happy with it given my shooting habits/needs the last few years. Everything looked fine on the LCD but when I got home and looked at things on a computer they were all muddy and soft. I cleaned the good ones up with software but cannot for the life of me figure out what happened to such a mildly used camera. Seems like digital must just expire at some point.
Many of these digital cameras fail around the 10 year mark. It’s full of electronics so it is to be expected. That’s the advantage of many 35mm cameras, they keep on clicking.
Sad. Love my D610. I enjoy your videos.
Thanks!

Get the D780 to replace the wornout D610.
Good plan!

I guess we all eventually reach the end of our shutter life!
