  • In October 2019, Builders FirstSource was introduced to a robotic concept at one of the local annual trade shows. We're always looking for the next best thing. What's the next step in automation? And we've got a full line robotic system here in Villa Rica, Georgia.
The part that excites me the most about the robotic line is that we're finally bringing automation to the truss industry. We've been able to add basically two more four lines with one piece of equipment, and we're doing that with less people than what it would have taken to operate the other two lines.
Along with the productivity enhancements we've seen, the thing I'm also as pleased with is the quality product that the machine produces on a consistent basis.
The job is safer with the automated floor machine because it removes the person from the moving parts. I do believe that what the machine brings is a lower risk of sprains and strains, lacerations, and also just overall fatigue on a day-to-day basis. The most strenuous part of it is carrying a hammer.
Builders FirstSource is going to be on the leading edge of technology. Our hope is after we see the success we're having out of this machine is we're going to invest further in automation at many of our other plants across the nation.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with this.
I am an employee at builders first source here in Cecil County Maryland. I can just say that our jobs mean the world to us. We would not like it if robots took our jobs. Please reconsider using these robots and products in the future so that the people may keep there jobs and strive in such a hard economy.
    Sincerely, Phillip Minks

This plant has produced a quite few roofs for our plant here in Milton fl and I personally feel there's significantly less qc. Many items had to be repaired but I'm not sure it it was the delivery driver or the production

There we go again more LOST JOBS to AUTOMATION. Don't they know that Automation doesn't buy the products that they make.

What’s I find terrifying is that more and more people don’t want to work hard so the automation is just going to be what takes over. All machines someday will work labor intensive jobs for the most part. And then you wonder where the human element or workers will fit in? And honestly idk I don’t know the answer to that question. We’ll just sit there and consume things and collect a government check. “Own nothing an you’ll be happy” type of crap. I don’t like none of that way of living at all either :(
