She didn't have the "preferred" body type as demmed by the coaches back then, however, her talent was enough to make the coaches take an exception and push her through. She did not disappoint. She was a great athlete and the icing on the cake after losing the all around to Mary Lou in 84, is that she pushed through and competed with her team at the world championships at 19 years old at the 1987 World championships where the Romanian team unexpectedly took the gold from the USSR in the team finals, so she retired as a world team champion which had to be the highlight of her career.
