I do see your point of view. Kim wouldn't like receiving what Trump has been doing to his allies. Of course for Kim, that just would have been more of the same he's been subjected to throughout all the US's presidencies, to him, his father and grandfather.

And back in Cuba around 55 years ago, America scared the Soviets away from stationing nukes on the island (in combination with some frantic diplomacy).

It's very strange that he praises Kim so much after previously saying he was a killer, and calling him "rocket man". Not that strange after you get to know Trump, but to be fair.. The salute was clearly a confusion on whether to shake hands or salute. Like most of the time a white dude, and black dude meet. 'so is this a fist bump or hand shake, and I'm being racist just thinking this?' I'm glad he went for peace talks, but I still wish it was someone with more logic and common sense leading the talks for the US.
That salute shows his complete lack of competence, that he has no idea of what he's doing. That as POTUS he most certainly should NOT salute an officer of another nation's armed force. When you add that the general only saluted Trump to avoid shaking hands with him, probably because he couldn't bear the thought of even touching him, the whole thing becomes tragically ironic. The North Koreans have used Americans and Japanese for propaganda, creating lager than life super villains as enemies of the people, with museums dedicated to massacres by these enemies, real or imagined, for the education especially of school children. It is how they can keep the population convinced of the need to sacrifice so much for the army- by exaggerating the past and telling them they're under constant threat of those enemies. The average North Korean is still at war with Japan and the US. For them time has stopped.
