My mom just agreed to get me pet rats! I'm so excited. I still have some work to do to clean space for them, and get all the supplies I need. but it shouldn't take too long. I've been using your videos to help with my research on how to properly care for pet rats, so thanks for all the great advice! I can't wait to look after my own little pet rats, they're so cute!!

@@aryastark3148 you can get it from a breeder, and rescuing isn’t ideal eather. I rescued my previous rats and one was adorable and cute but the other wasn’t tamable, bit me a lot, was agressive and attacked my other one to the point where they killed one another. Not a great thing to have rescue rats.
@@aryastark3148 adopting is great for older more experienced rat owners, but they can be much more difficult then a rat gotten from a responsible breeder
definitely a good idea to adopt though, if you feel ready for a potential challenge

These are THE BEST rat cages. Only problem with the old ferret nation cages, I found, is very small females can slide between the bars. This one looks great!

Lovely cage and set up. I've noticed how much our 4 female rats are more active than your boys... when they get into a cleaned cage with a new set up they go totally zoomies and run around trying out everything. They also immediately get to work creating elaborate nests out of the hay, paper and material we put in. Boys are so chill in comparison :)

I cut up cheap color-cordinating bath mats with no-skid bottoms to cover all solid and wire flooring except the basement--it gets papar pellets. Bath mats toss right into the wash. Awesomely easy and attractive! And paper pellets don't kick out as easily as loose bedding.
i just got 3 girls, i learned a lot about how to set up a cage and how to take care of them and help them feel comfortable from here, their my first rats.

Back in February, I filled out an adoption application for 2 female rats, and just this last week the breeder has decided to decompose all waiting lists for better genetics later on. I made another application today, and I have your old cage type on the currently. I have this one for our degus :) I was completely obsessed with it but it was always sold out everywhere. I'm still so happy with the second hand one I managed to get, it's perfect and one of the only metal cages I've ever found pretty.

When I got my savic suite royal 95 cage, I had 2 other people help me put it together, I don't think I would have been able to put it together alone, cause the 3 of us even struggled. 😂 This cage is honestly perfect for a naturalistic setup with it's brown color! I really want to try and make a deeper base for my cage, cause the bedding is literally going everywhere. Since I can't put as much bedding in as before in their old cage, I just got a bigger dig box for my boys, but they really love their coco soil so I think they don't mind. ☺

Yay I was hoping this uploaded on my birthday!
You may want to use glass dividers giving them "floors". Screen door glass "single pane" makes for next to free glass that can serve as a shelf and can easily be cut to fit how you want it to. Of course you do want to grind the edges so they are smooth and watch to make sure they are not chewing on the edges. But it makes clean up and changing the cage around easy. If you do want to use the trays line the bottom of the tray with peel and stick vinyl flooring to once again aid in clean up as well as preventing rust.

I am absolutely so enthralled with this cage's design and layout. My only question about it, is how many males do you think could fit into it?
After my 5 boys go, I want to get another 7 or so. And want to make sure they'll have enough space/if I need to keep them in separate cages :))
7 would be fine depending on how it’s set up. My personal max is around 6 but some people choose to keep 10,11,12 in a cage like this

I have a cage with a similar bar set up, one side vertical, one side horizontal, and it makes it harder to set up hammocks or even water bottles.

What a dream cage! Im always jealous when I see those large front doors.. To get as much space as possible for my chinchillas I bought an appropriate aviary - and its great size wise but the doors are so hard to cram yourself into for cleaning T o T

The single looks really nice for a hamster if you add a higher substrate barrier.
I have this cage with a Perspex base, it’s fab. I bought a trolley for underneath the base for additional support for the base once I went bio active, due to the extra weight. Enjoy x

Do rats need to dig?
Mine don't dig, but is that because they don't have a deep base? (I know when gave them a 'dig box' they loved it!) ..IT WAS BASICALLY AN IKEA PLASTIC TUB WITH A BIT OC SOIL AND SOME SUNFLOWER SEEDS SCATTERED INTO THE SOIL! 😃
Looks like the Maximus Cage we have in Germany. Except that one is black. I had two of them connected when I had 14 rats.
I would definitely put a complaint in about the scratches, and you might get some money off it 😉 For a start, it will start to rust quicker where the scratches are, as the metal is exposed. And it’s not a cheap cage as you say. Other than that, I love it. Also I never realised male rats have such massive kahunas either lol, I used to have two female rats when I was younger. I knew they were big but not that big and sort of pointy as well 😆

@@Emiology if the scratches are right down to the metal, then it will rust quicker there than the rest of it. Even if it isn’t, I’d still complain and see if they give you some money back. If it was a cheap cage I probably wouldn’t bother, but if you’re paying £300 for a cage, You want it perfect. Good luck!

It looks so cool
i bet you could slightly tighten that screw on the little wedge locking thing on the door. That way you can move it back and forth instead of it swinging back down immediately when you go to open the door. Then you will be able to open the cage while filming with one hand.
I had or have the same, but the german version, which is grey instead of brown... I now have one that I built myself and it's like... At least four times the size of that one 😁 (I gotta say that I AM a little bit over the top with my rats, though😂😂😂)
