The Institute of Medicine (IOM) suggests the adequate water intake per day for men is 3.7 liters, while for women it is 2.7 liters
Several populations, including France, Ireland, Italy and Sweden, consume less than 1500 ml(or 1.5 ltr) of fluid (non-alcoholic beverages) per day. In terms of drinking water intake, most countries consume less than 1000 ml/d,(one litre per day)
It is understandable that in these countries people are advised to take low salt.
Indians have a habit of drinking more water after food and during hot weather.in addition people in India lose more salt due sweating and urination than Europeans.
These two factors cause us to drink 4 to 5 times more water and need 4 to 5 times more salt.
. The Japanese diet is notoriously high in sodium with copious use of soy sauce, miso and pickled vegetables. The Japanese themselves seem to suffer no ill effect as they have the world’s longest life expectancy at 83.7 years. Singapore is third in life expectancy at 83.1 years. If eating salt was really so bad for health, how could the world’s longest lived people also eat one of the world’s saltiest diets?
North Indians consumed an,average salt intake of 2 ½ tsp per day (14 grams) or but maintained a normal blood pressure of 133/81 mmHg. In South India, average salt intake was about half that of North India, but the average blood pressure was significantly higher at 141/88 mmHg

The salt scare is applicable to those people who drink less water,
The average water intake and salted snaks variies greatly in different countries . In Europian restaurants water is not served wheras the first thing offered to a guest in Indaia is a glass of water
In India Hyponatramia in older people is a bigger problem than salt related hypertension So the western concept of salt-scare should not be preached to Indians

Both my parents and many others suffered from high BP and were scared to take salt .
Both became disoriented and weak . I suspected Hyponatremia and started giving them salt..all doctors and my relatives were against me. I sent blood samples to Tyrocare , Bombay who confirmed the shortage of Sodium and potassium
Doctors are taught as per western standard . But I researched and found that they take 4 times less water than Indians .Hence they are advised to take an amount of salt which is 4 times less than what is necessary for us.
Doctors follow the nooks written in west and do not research themselves. Salt is needed more than any other nutrient because we lose it daily through urin and sweat.
