Spot on about Semenuk. I’ve always thought he is the best mountain biker, but I’m a little letdown with his run this year. But you’re right: he knows what the judges want and gives it to them. Totally agree against piling up the sandbags to make a big landing.
20 point deduction for refusing the redbull at the finish line 🤣. That’s the reason for the score! You and the team won, no question.

Honestly though, how do the people with the cans at the finish corral not realize that guys with other drink sponsors are probably contractually prohibited from taking the cans? Or do they know and are just being cheeky?
i think part of the problem is not just the judging but the riders they invite. In recent years more and more slopestyle riders are at Rampage, so it's no real surprise that a lot of the lines and features we see built are mostly super sized slopestyle lines/bikepark stuff. We need to see more proper Rampage style guys like Brendog get an invite, where's Brage Dylan Stark and others like that? I know riddle was out this year due to a new kid so it will be great to see him back next year bringing his moto style. Keep your chin up chaps the whole world is showing you love for your build and the run. peace

I love how everyone in the sport pretty much unanimously agree that Semenuk is the best mountain bike rider in the world!
Been thinking about how to attribute scores. Why not make it really complicated and have a thick catalogue out with what gives how many points and the judges then only judge how well it was executed and deduct from the perfect score for each feature, line and trick? No doubt this would be an utter mess the first time its fielded for a myriad of reasons, but eventually it could level the playfield between those who do the big mountain stuff and the slopestyle jockeys because it decouples the style of your riding from the bias of what the event should be like.
The major issue I can think of is, riders will start to cram in as much of the maybe not highest profile stuff to rake in more points than another rider doing fewer high risk elements. It would be crucial to have the potential max score of an element really well dialed in to limit that possibility...

I’d put T mac first, Godziek second, Tom third, Brendan 4th and Kurt sorge 5th but of course just personal preference I like the canyon step down. Had Tom isted finished his run he’d have won and there wouldn’t be too much debate over the judging. Last year Brendan should’ve been on the podium though and I don’t think there’s a good argument to say otherwise

Professional footballers get paid millions to roll on the ground holding their shin, meanwhile Brendog risks flipping canyons and showing huge creativity for little reward, thanks for all your content, it's been fantastic
The analogy is invalid because football is a business of billions and they get their share of it. Has nothing to do with risk. Its all about the monetary potential. Professional road cyclists also make more money than downhill or enduro racers for the same reason. You have to look at it on its own and ask if even the 100k for winning Rampage is adequate for the risk. Just not in comparison to more mainstream sports.

It always surprise me how much appreciation Brendan has for Godzi. Like I know Szymon is great and as a fellow countryman I am always rooting for him but once again I can see that Brendan sees more in him, in his skills and capabilities and it feels genuine

Anyway at the end of the day it doesn't matter the fans got major entertainment from the cream of the crop .it's a hard 1 I've watched this comp since day 1 got the 3 original rampage collection dvds in special metal Tin. All you guys rock and are all amazing. Everyone should get a gold medal just for turning up and make it a pro rider invitation event. No 1sts or 2nds .or am I biegn bit lame I dono but fek me I'm no going that and enjoyed watching you all send it .hope cam Zinks OK sending love ❤️

From a fan's perspective, I agree about wanting things more "Rampagey." But fans aren't building the lines, and fans aren't riding the course. Hasn't it become less Rampagey because the evolution of Rampage has been driven by the lines the riders and their teams have built?

Its best to just move on. Have a bash at the urban downhill. That was crazy on the weekend.
You're very humble, but your run was by far the most "rampage-y" run and I think deserved a podium spot, if not the win.
In the end though, we can't blame the riders for their "slopestyle-ish runs and weird scores". They're just being smart and building their lines according to what they think the judges are looking for, and many were right
The judges are the problem, get rid of them. Let the riders judge each other based on what ever criteria they prefer. They also have a problem with inviting so many of the same people year after year. Many of those riders know how to game the system now, and end up doing the same thing year after year. They also need a minimum number of first time riders each year to keep it fresh and interesting.
Time to start a new big mountain freeride event in 2025
With comps that have judges and points it’s like a cooking show there is a goal and if that goal ain’t met and or off from the original “challenge” then you get penalized. But they just said fuck it I guess

Judging needs to change could it be possible to run it like redbull ultra natural heats in pairs winner goes through you all ride a few different lines as you go through like ultra natural. You'd be riding more though on scary stuff
Why don't ALL the riders agree that next year, you all do narly Rampage runs, even saminak. The riders could agree to go back to its roots. The riders could say no more highway styled landings. Just a thought.
At this point we just need to accept that Rampage is Redbull's gift to the American MTB scene and that the same tired old boys club will show up and hand trophies to their boys. It's a slopestyle competition on a cliff. The bad camera angles, trash production, super-cringe commentary etc. is warner bros levels of bad, all of which makes the event even less interesting than it would otherwise be as a result of the recycled bike park lines and biased judging. How redbull can make Rampage so bad while Hardline is so good is a mystery but at the same time not a mystery. The Rampage format sucks, just accept it. For Bren personally, it makes no sense to risk your life if you care 1 iota about winning as it's clear that you could triple backflup the canyon gap to nose bonk Salema Masakela's fivehead and still not win.
They should just not give any points for tricks. Then it'd be more Rampagey.
Or make tricks just one judging criteria out of like 8, and make those public so the riders know what to build. That way, even if someone like Semenuk got a 10/10 in tricks, it wouldn't matter because his scores in rawness/looseness, steepness, creativity and exposure would still be less than Brendan's, and his score would be quite a bit lower
or give them opportunities to run each others lines as an option
I stopped watching last year. It kind of reminds me of localized surf contests. In my mind, you won last year.

Judges should be on the hill, not watching on a screen. Yeah I understand it a bloody big hill an they allready have an understanding of the riders line an build week but, it seems like they judge on how well the run looks on screen...? for the non FR MTB viewers maybe?

Yeah roit a slope comp with gnarly 100ft death drop cliffs either side of the line an gaps bigger than any slope comp ever..
I think head cams give a much better understanding of how gnarly the lines are

Bren got robbed especially as his run was the only true freeride line on the hill.
As for what bren olly & deaks created it was epic,they literally moved mountians & that hair cut to the rock.
Unfortunately it doesn't help having the judges they have all of which are buddys of brandon.
Unfortunately what was a sick freeride event has turned slopestyle & we already have enough of those.
In my eyes & alot of other peoples bren was the true winner. And olly & deaks should of won best line & dig team.
Plus a monster engery rider will never win a red bull event.
Bren your a legend buh,don't waste your time on it again onto bigger & better things lad.

Telling a multiple time rampage winner that he is not rampage enough is crazy and nasty work.
By Rampagey I think he means big mountain style riding as opposed to slope style riding.
No, you just didnt listen well enough. It was about the line. And before that he heaped praise on him for being the best mtb athlete and after he said he could do the big mountain stuff instead of slopestyle on a hill. But he does what he knows scores well.
@@Ganiscol Semenuk is a 5x winner and did big mountain stuff in the earlier years. Remember rampage prior to 2015? The event has evolved and riders need to get with it. brendog said it himself, Brandon could have done brendog's run. How many riders could have done what Semenuk has done? If Brendog had more amplitude drops and more stylistic jumps, he would have scored higher. You should look into how they score the event.
Every sport has changed and evolved. You can say music and movies have done the same. The traditionalists and purists are always the ones complaining. Keep it moving.
A short video for every thought? Pass.
How long are you going to keep crying about this guys? The judges where correct. Your run was too stop and start with very basic tricks. No one wants to watch someone ride down a hill without doing something like the slope stylers can do with the big tricks. It just doesn't make good television no matter how gnarly you think the shutes where.
