There must be $$ influencing the criteria (for instance, sponsor's unofficially mandating that the event rewards mainstream-appeal tricks that are easy to use in advertising)
Instead of doing Red Bull Rampage next year you start “Monster Free-ride” . You got the pull from sponsors and the support from the mtb community. Only thing that makes things better is competition. Time Rampage had something competing against it. Your run and skills are to be respected and praised. Congratulations to your team. You guys killed it.
Totally had this same side in my head. No reason Monster couldn't assemble their own similar shit where creativity and rawness are exceptionally rewarded in the criteria. There are plenty of exceptionally talented freeriders not even at rampage I'm sure would love to take part. Let's keep stirring up interest for this idea! Tabernas Spain could be a perfect location.
His line was cool and pretty damn impressive, but compared to the other rides it seemed a bit lacking. He’s an awesome rider regardless of his placement

Dude at this point - take your homies - venture out to a canyon yourself - film a project there and receive the stoke out of literally everyone else that enjoyed watching you. You don't need rampage. watched with a few buddies that have never watched any mtb competitions whatsoever, and they even were puzzled with the score you got. sucks that you werent rewarded for it, but thank you for doing it. legendary run!
You rode the most insane line ever built on the hill, had a blast doing it, and won the hearts of the public. Redbull attempted to judge a competition based on four categories picked out of a hat. 'Made it look too easy?' Redbull sure made judging an event look too difficult. We all know who the real winners are. You three legends.
I had to laugh when they said he made it look too easy. He had a gnarly raw line different to everyone else not shared with some crazy chutes the insane Rock and amazing build quality of take offs and landings and the Canyon gap 🤯. If he made it look too easy doesn’t that speak volumes to his ability as a rider and the crew’s workmanship. Sick line ridden clean scored high in my mind if it wasn’t second place to Godzi’s nutty line with some balls to the wall huck tricks then a close third in behind the Semenuks mountain style run

Those judges came up during the North Shore explosion; Brendon’s line, or a version of that line, was done by many free riders in North Van in the 2000s, on soaking wet wood features, minus the tricks. So it’s not that progressive, actually. They were just paying respects. It’s cool.

genuinely the most impressive run on a bike I have ever seen. exposed, technical, creative... this had it all. a shame the judges didn't like ut. but in 10 years when I'll be looking back at iconic rampage runs, this one and last year's will be on my list and not the winning runs..

One of the gnarliest, techincal, and flat out unique lines of the last few years of rampage and you get a 76. I put this run with the likes of zincs 360, you should be proud of the work yall did, top notch work from the lad science boys😤

I've been watching Rampage since the first one, and remember when huge cliff drops were progressed by Josh Bender and free ride was in its infancy. You bring it back to what it was back then. Peoples champion, and I've spent a lot of time in the mountains, and in BC, and every second of the chest footage was insane, with that voice inside me never saying "yeah I can ride that". Great run, congratulations, and the whole series with the crew has been brilliant to watch. Screw the judges, yet again!

Simply looking at any social media about the event and the comments shows how people really felt about the results and your run. All you boys killed it and the fans are all backing you.
As an architect, I'm very sensitive to context and how one treats the site for a project - if there are natural features, does one choose to ignore them, or incorporate them into the 'design'? It's a fundamental choice. Your path down the mountain made use of many natural features, instead of manufacturing them, which takes a lot more creativity and attention to detail as you have to consider what nature has given you to work with. It's far easier to bring a massive crew, and sculpt a bobsled run out of red soil than try to figure out how to manage natural features. For what you, Ben and Olly created, you all get a gold star from this mtb architect and won the event as far as far as I'm concerned. As for the future, I encourage you to ignore what judges are looking for, and create your own kinetic painting, as many here will unanimously agree that you and your squad's efforts were extraordinary. Win or lose, we're on the booze! (heard steve peat say that recently, so there - cheers!)
Hahahaha "natural" seems to be a term used loosely in brendawgs run. One second people are saying how much work his team did and the next second they are trying to say it was natural. Natural is super t's drop in 2002

Just because you finish a legends line does not give you bonus points I hate to tell you. Or just because you vlogged your build and have it all over social media to pull on people's heartstrings, does not make it the best run. That's the thing with competition is, it showcases who is the best and not just who can sell it the best. Not to mention theses are supposed to be professionals not cry babies
@@tjpighinidk what you're on about. 1. Building a trail that utilizes natural features can be more challenging than essentially a sandbox, especially if the sandbox has prebuilt ridable features. 2. What does me too have to do with anything? 3. Brendog isn't "crying", maybe the viewers are. It's wild to call everyone complaining about the judging "grown children" when that is 50% of the viewers (considering the vote for rider of the day). Shows that you're the minority. 4. Is your point that people are so in support of Brendog because of his large social media following? Because Semenuk has 250k more followers on Insta - and got 2% of fan votes. I don't have social media, didn't watch a single build vlog and I liked Brendog's line the best. I'm very certain I've seen more videos starring Semenuk than Fairclough. Besides that, you actually watched the event and really think that the only unique thing about Brendog's line is the build documentation? That's wild 5. Edit to add: since it's a judge rating competition, a competition on who can sell it the best is EXACTLY what it is.

Your run was clearly the most true to the spirit of Rampage and you nailed it, but it seems the judges are taking the event in a different direction which is a massive shame. Brendogs run literally had me vibin' in my chair from the top to the bottom. Never had that feeling before. Most freeride run of the day. Honestly, this is what true rampage is all about.

I've ridden a ton out there - my first run down Flying Monkey was with Josh Bender - who was one of the judges, and I do not understand how you weren't on the podium - and why did Szymon get beat out - if you had to pick a park run for 1st, it was him. Sorry all you lads worked that hard, rode that hard, and got handed a participation award - Rampage isn't Rampaging anymore. Gutted, you were robbed.

@SportCampTirol well I'm not bias and looking back at it, I think they got it pretty dang close. I was along the same as all these clowns at first and was like Brandon did not win that. Then I went back and watched what I thought were the top runs. Brandon, goziak, t Mac, van stein..., Kurt and Brendon. The top 3 were hard to decifer between who had the hardest gnarliest smoothest fastest and most innovative lines. When you break it down like that, brendawg had nothing new pushing boundaries. He had the easiest entry canyon gap which he flipped 5 years ago, he did strait airs on all his other features and he was going walking speed or even stopping on multiple occasions and he didn't have the biggest features. So other than the bias from watching his build and the fact that it was "jordies" line even though he didn't do the big drop and such that jordie was working on. It really was only a top 5 maybe . Definitely not a winning run

Mtb tech weenies that have never done anything but voice their opinion about everything. The same participation medal crowd that shame ya for not riding the right brands or that cheat on toonie Tuesday bike races instead of racing reputable races. The same new era of riders that now measure drops with the hypotenuse to make it sound bigger than it really is. The same riders that copy a pioneers tricks and style and then shame him for being better than they are and making up a bunch of bs cause they lost.

You rode the most insane line ever built on the hill, had a blast doing it, and won the hearts of the public. Redbull attempted to judge a competition based on four categories picked out of a hat. 'Made it look too easy?' Redbull sure made judging an event look too difficult. We all know who the real winners are. You three legends.
I had to laugh when they said he made it look too easy.
He had a gnarly raw line different to everyone else not shared with some crazy chutes the insane Rock and amazing build quality of take offs and landings and the Canyon gap 🤯.
If he made it look too easy doesn’t that speak volumes to his ability as a rider and the crew’s workmanship.
Sick line ridden clean scored high in my mind if it wasn’t second place to Godzi’s nutty line with some balls to the wall huck tricks then a close third in behind the Semenuks mountain style run

Those judges came up during the North Shore explosion; Brendon’s line, or a version of that line, was done by many free riders in North Van in the 2000s, on soaking wet wood features, minus the tricks. So it’s not that progressive, actually. They were just paying respects. It’s cool.
I can't even imagine the precision and bike control your run took. Watching all the build videos I watched the competition just for your run. Congrats on completing one of the most insane runs I've ever seen. It's to bad the judges didn't see it the way.

One of the gnarliest, techincal, and flat out unique lines of the last few years of rampage and you get a 76. I put this run with the likes of zincs 360, you should be proud of the work yall did, top notch work from the lad science boys😤

I've been watching Rampage since the first one, and remember when huge cliff drops were progressed by Josh Bender and free ride was in its infancy. You bring it back to what it was back then. Peoples champion, and I've spent a lot of time in the mountains, and in BC, and every second of the chest footage was insane, with that voice inside me never saying "yeah I can ride that". Great run, congratulations, and the whole series with the crew has been brilliant to watch. Screw the judges, yet again!

As an architect, I'm very sensitive to context and how one treats the site for a project - if there are natural features, does one choose to ignore them, or incorporate them into the 'design'? It's a fundamental choice. Your path down the mountain made use of many natural features, instead of manufacturing them, which takes a lot more creativity and attention to detail as you have to consider what nature has given you to work with. It's far easier to bring a massive crew, and sculpt a bobsled run out of red soil than try to figure out how to manage natural features. For what you, Ben and Olly created, you all get a gold star from this mtb architect and won the event as far as far as I'm concerned. As for the future, I encourage you to ignore what judges are looking for, and create your own kinetic painting, as many here will unanimously agree that you and your squad's efforts were extraordinary. Win or lose, we're on the booze! (heard steve peat say that recently, so there - cheers!)

Just because you finish a legends line does not give you bonus points I hate to tell you. Or just because you vlogged your build and have it all over social media to pull on people's heartstrings, does not make it the best run. That's the thing with competition is, it showcases who is the best and not just who can sell it the best. Not to mention theses are supposed to be professionals not cry babies

1. Building a trail that utilizes natural features can be more challenging than essentially a sandbox, especially if the sandbox has prebuilt ridable features.

3. Brendog isn't "crying", maybe the viewers are. It's wild to call everyone complaining about the judging "grown children" when that is 50% of the viewers (considering the vote for rider of the day). Shows that you're the minority.
4. Is your point that people are so in support of Brendog because of his large social media following? Because Semenuk has 250k more followers on Insta - and got 2% of fan votes. I don't have social media, didn't watch a single build vlog and I liked Brendog's line the best. I'm very certain I've seen more videos starring Semenuk than Fairclough. Besides that, you actually watched the event and really think that the only unique thing about Brendog's line is the build documentation? That's wild

Absolutely gutted for you all. I don't know what more you could have done. Your run was clearly the most true to the spirit of Rampage and you nailed it, but it seems the judges are taking the event in a different direction which is a massive shame. But you did what you came to do and are home safe, which is the most important thing
Brendogs run literally had me vibin' in my chair from the top to the bottom. Never had that feeling before. Most freeride run of the day. Honestly, this is what true rampage is all about.
This line was the modern interpretation of OG rampage, Brendan has been one of the best parts of Rampage. Fuck the judges!

You’re the only rider that’s actually riding big mountain stuff at the only “big mountain” event. Your runs will always be what I think of when someone mentions rampage. I've ridden a ton out there - my first run down Flying Monkey was with Josh Bender - who was one of the judges, and I do not understand how you weren't on the podium - and why did Szymon get beat out - if you had to pick a park run for 1st, it was him.

You don't think the fans know how to ride a mountain bike and judge skill, precision, risk and pure balls? Hahahah fool. The world knew which 2 were by far the best. Red sheep and the ass kissers the employed have been ultimately shamed and lost a TON of respect and more importantly reputation and marketing value.

@SportCampTirol well I'm not bias and looking back at it, I think they got it pretty dang close. I was along the same as all these clowns at first and was like Brandon did not win that. Then I went back and watched what I thought were the top runs. Brandon, goziak, t Mac, van stein..., Kurt and Brendon. The top 3 were hard to decifer between who had the hardest gnarliest smoothest fastest and most innovative lines. When you break it down like that, brendawg had nothing new pushing boundaries. He had the easiest entry canyon gap which he flipped 5 years ago, he did strait airs on all his other features and he was going walking speed or even stopping on multiple occasions and he didn't have the biggest features. So other than the bias from watching his build and the fact that it was "jordies" line even though he didn't do the big drop and such that jordie was working on. It really was only a top 5 maybe . Definitely not a winning run

Mtb tech weenies that have never done anything but voice their opinion about everything. The same participation medal crowd that shame ya for not riding the right brands or that cheat on toonie Tuesday bike races instead of racing reputable races. The same new era of riders that now measure drops with the hypotenuse to make it sound bigger than it really is. The same riders that copy a pioneers tricks and style and then shame him for being better than they are and making up a bunch of bs cause they lost.
