Just saw a comment by OP that says "although the notes in the first strain vs support videos were just labeled as ''supported'', most of them were in fact also resonant."
I can hear the difference. In support, you can hear the voice in the back of mouth but with Resonance it sounds like it's just coming from the body. That probably doesn't make sense but I hope someone understands what I mean.
Yes! Thank you for putting that into words. I also think Support sounds smaller or restrained somehow, but Resonance sounds open, big, and like the voice is coming out in waves. Idk how to explain it.
its all resonance lol watch a voice teacher react to this video. They only difference you hear is resonance sound more full and louder, but it doesn't mean the "support" isn't resonating
I hope that Wendy achieves constant resonances, i mean her support makes up for it but that would take her to the next level of vocal ability. And i much rather videos like this that compare good vocalists/technique to good or even great vocalist
Yea vocal nodules goes away after like a month or so, And if it does go aways after some time people get surgery to get it fixed. Thats if it doesnt end your career before tho(Some people go through a lot of mental stuff and feel defeated, thus marking the end of singing for them :/). So basically it's not an ongoing thing but it effects can be lasting but also healed with training and time.
The resonant notes sound so satisfying to my ear. They are really powerful in a natural way (opposite of pushing more chest voice to create powerful voice), they are really rich of singer’s tonality and they spread out into space like warm sunshine My favorite notes here are Sohyang’s D5, Bb4 from Jung Dongha
The 'support' singers are already well-trained and amazing. The ones singing resonance are just absolute legends! And here I am sounding like a dying pigeon in the shower 😂
The phrase my vocal teacher always told me was “RELAX YOUR THROAT and exhale into your singing.” It took me a lot of time to fully understand but when I did, it was like a door opening and suddenly it made all the sense of the world. This video really shows it well.
Falsetto, Whistle and Fry registers can't be supported nor resonant cause they disconnected and support can be created only with connected vocal cords with strong diaphragmental support (if say it easily). But Head voice - yeah, I'd like to see that comparasion.
I love how most of the support vocals are younger girls that debuted only a few years ago but the other vocals are more of female idols that are in mid 30s close to 40 and are most likely solo artists

I find it funny because the range at female singers stops at D5 probably because it is hard to find example of singers who can support and resonate Eb5 and above. Well the legends such as Sohyang and the others are exceptional tho.
tom jerry there are plenty actually, but it's hard to find just supported examples up there since basically all that support that high also resonate consistently :)
Chen going against chen and one of D.O.'s best solo performances for sure, but yeah you really do hear the difference, singers with resonance have a much clearer, smoother sound and they tend to be able to hold it for longer. Also, they appear to strain much less so yeah it looks "effortless" which I assume is due to their good technique.
Lmao you’re all saying that you’re “cringing” search up the definition 👏😂 Also he/she is being sarcastic, everyone knows Chen didn’t invent singing. But that voice oh fuCkK. He literally could invent singing with a voice so sweet and powerful acK.

Most of your comparisons are misleading. What you are showing as examples of just "support" notes are not held as long as your examples of "resonance" notes. EVERY NOTE produced by the human voice is both supported and resonant, but it may lack those elements in proper proportion to produce the resonant "ring" you are obviously trying to show. If a note is not held long enough, there is no way to tell if it is not resonant enough - especially from television recordings where the audio is EQ'd and compressed or from video camera recordings. The ONLY true way to tell is if the person is singing in front of you. Your example at 8:24 clearly shows strain in the neck even though you label it is "resonance". The example at 9:20 of a supposedly "support" A4 is just as free of tension, clear and resonant as the example or "resonance" that follows it. I fear you are yet another vocal student (or just a singing fan) with little or no teaching experience who thinks they have the vocal technique experience and knowledge to judge other singers. Your criteria here for your examples show that lack of experience. And having a degree from a music school doesn't qualify you - it takes a trained set of ears.

I think their vocal trainer is scared that they will strain. Yes, they might be doing it right but it's better to be safe because Wendy had vocal nodules and they are scared for a change. Hopefully it'll change but support is already good enough.
Amanda Silva resonance is like the next step after support. support is needed for a singer for healthy singing. when you are able to support a note, then the next step is to try to make it resonant. that means that it's more opened and also sounds better. many people, like wendy, are very good vocalists with a good sense of support but they can't produce resonance because they are not as opened as they should be.
A voz da Jessica é linda, acho que foi intencional da SM deixar a voz dela assim. Contudo, se ela tentasse levantar o palato a voz dela iria ficar muito semelhante a da Taeyeon!
I think vowel modification is key to good resonance. Some singers really stick with the hard "i" sound (i as in sit) and it makes it difficult to resonate
i notice for supported notes, they mostly short belted note compared with resonance belted note. plus the mouth also open much larger and consistent for resonance note
Yo Han really? Because ALL of them (especially Resonance) sounded free, open and has its ringing quality in my ears And no, facial expression is NOT the sign of Strain. Because you HAVE TO place your voice correctly and your throat must be open in order to achieve Resonance By lifting your eyebrows, it helps your throat being opened and your voice can be placed higher so your support won't drop
I think ideally you'd be able to pull of both and maybe pick either one of them (or mix them) depending on the emotion and feel you want to convey for each song/ocassion

*I really like Jess’s support in GRAVITY😭😭*
Thanks!!!!!! Looking forward to future vids! (Low notes and head voice, please!)
The opening video (Son Seungyeon) is just amazing ^_^
Really nice video. Now I think I can get the difference between support and resonance better :)
Tiffany's voice sooooo 😍😍
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video❤️❤️❤️ I've been feeling like resonance is the most kept secret... This is where I want to go❤️
Supported voice seems more straight while resonant voice more rounded/fuller and resonates/powerful. Is that right?
i notice for supported notes, they mostly short belted note compared with resonance belted note. plus the mouth also open much larger and consistent for resonance note
This is Relaxed vs More Relaxed
Clicked because I wanted to know which Ailee clips you were going to use... I’m not disappointed, she’s such a queen ♥️
Son Seungyeon in the opening clip destroys all
I'm not sure but some of them are singing Strains. Based on how tense their neck muscles and faces are.
Yo Han really?
Because ALL of them (especially Resonance) sounded free, open and has its ringing quality in my ears
And no, facial expression is NOT the sign of Strain.
Because you HAVE TO place your voice correctly and your throat must be open in order to achieve Resonance
By lifting your eyebrows, it helps your throat being opened and your voice can be placed higher so your support won't drop
I think ideally you'd be able to pull of both and maybe pick either one of them (or mix them) depending on the emotion and feel you want to convey for each song/ocassion
This video is really needed!!! THANK YOU!!!
