The Canon R5 Mark II is the latest addition to Canon’s mirrorless camera lineup, setting a new top in photography and videography. With groundbreaking features, superior image quality, and unparalleled performance, the Canon R5 Mark II is the BEST. Hera my thoughts on the Canon R5 Mark II vs Canon R5, including its specs, real-world performance, and more.
Canon R5 Mark II Camera Specs:
Unmatched Image Quality and Features:
Lie the Canon R5, the Canon R5 Mark II boasts a 45MP sensor with the advanced DIGIC X image processor, delivering stunning image quality with detail and color accuracy. The high ISO range ensures excellent low-light performance.
The in-camera noise reduction and neural network noise reduction features are game-changers, providing incredibly clean images even at high ISO settings. The new in-camera upscaling feature allows you to double the vertical and horizontal resolution, giving you the flexibility to crop and reframe without losing quality.
Canon R5 Mark II Autofocus:
The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with 1053 AF points offers lightning-fast and highly accurate autofocus. The eye control autofocus, first introduced in the Canon R3, is now faster and more precise, making it perfect for capturing fast-moving subjects.
The lighting optimizer feature intelligently brightens faces, ensuring perfect exposure in every shot.
The mechanical shutter of the Canon R5 II has a deeper, richer sound compared to its predecessor, the original Canon R5.
The EVF has also seen significant improvements. It is larger and features advanced anti-fog technology, ensuring a clear view even in humid conditions. The eye control autofocus works seamlessly with the EVF, making it easier to compose shots and track subjects.
Canon R5 Mark II Performance:
When compared to the original Canon R5 and other models like the Canon R6 Mark II and Canon R3, the EOS R5 Mark II stands out with its superior performance and advanced features. The autofocus system is more responsive, the image quality is unmatched, and the new features like in-camera noise reduction and upscaling set it apart from its predecessors.
The Canon R5 Mark II's ability to shoot 8K video at 30 fps and 4K video at 120 fps makes it a powerhouse for videographers and very different from the original Canon R5. The dual card slots, including the ultra-fast CFexpress and SD UHS-II, ensure that you can capture and store high-resolution images and videos without any hiccups.
The Canon R5 Mark II - An upgrade to the canon R5
The Canon R5 Mark II is a revolutionary camera that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in photography and videography. With its advanced features, superior image quality, and exceptional performance, it is the ultimate tool for professionals who demand the best. Whether you're shooting weddings, portraits, landscapes, or videos, the Canon R5 Mark II delivers results that will exceed your expectations.
If you’re looking for the best camera for wedding and portrait photographers on the market, the Canon R5 Mark II should be at the top of your list is you're comparing the Canon R5 vs R5 Mark II.

For me that looks like the better, more interesting release of the day! 👌
Well done preview! And btw: The color of that dress is 🔥!
Thanks! 😄
You are my absolute favourite camera reviewer, because you are clearly enthused with the tech and you seem to be having fun. I ordered mine this morning and will be trading my R3 in the process.
Yay congrats on the new camera!
Awesome preview Vanessa, loved the format and the energy you bring.
Thanks so much!!
Wow, I was all set to pledge my allegiance to Sony, but then I realized all my favorite photographers, including you, are Team Canon! This video has officially converted me-I'm sold on the Canon EOS Mark II. Thanks for the epic content and for showing me the light (through a Canon lens, of course)! 📸✨
Haha amazing. You’ll love it for sure! Can’t wait to get my hands on one again
I was sold before you said that this can film in 120 frames per second with audio, but that’s insane! This camera is perfect
Right?!??
If you record audio with the camera, you don't really need R5 II. at all.
Every time I watch your videos, I think of your Fro Knows Photo skit. Hilarious!
😂
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Vannessa.....you are a real joy.😂
Hahaha thx for the kind words ❤️
I almost spit out my food when you said: “…on crack.” 😂
😂
She got me with that one too 😂 I was like…Oh…She from tha hood 🤣
Wowza!!! This camera looks amazing! Was holding out to see if I go with this or an R5 MkI! Will be so happy to add this to my arsenal… hopefully in the next few months.
Such a fantastic video, Vanessa. You’re truly so lovely and truly have sold me on this camera!! Love the mix of technical and real life you bring with your content.
Hope you enjoy it!
You are not only Joy ! you are Fun too 😀
😊 thank you
As always, great video-love the informal delivery. Thanks so much for putting this out.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful!!! Cameras’ nice too… 😊
Thank you very much!
Go Vanessa !!!!!!!
This looks to be a very promising camera, and one I can afford in about two years or so? 🙄
Hard to concentrate on the video with such a lovely presenter. That dress is just muy bien! 😊
Saw You were featured in a B&H Promo for the camera, way to go. 👍🙏♥
Thanks so much!! This is a very exciting day 😊
@@VanessaJoy You're Very Welcome lovely Lady! 😊
I think the new R5II will be a run away success.
@VanessaJoy Can we add sound when the R52 is set to electronic shutter so our subjects know we’re shooting? Great video!!!
@@dbc97610 This is a great comment, and brings back memories of cameras of ‘Yesteryear,’ that had shutters the mode ‘s could hear, and it would help with the posing and shooting. But Technology moves on, but You make a valid point. A lot of the more modern cameras mechanical shutters have become very quiet. Of course, if one is using a really long focal length, it is academic.
@@dbc97610agreed!! I have to tell them this
Mannnn best review so far!!!
Thank youuuuu!!!
I haven’t been this excited for a cam since the 5dsr
Congrats on running the promo! Camera sounds really nice. I wonder how the face register compares against the one in Sony (they’ve had it for years but I haven’t tried it).
It’s DAMN good, even detects their profile
Comparison is the thief of joy. Don’t compare the 2 cameras or the camera companies, just enjoy what you have a keep making art my friend. 😊
R5 is the one we have been waiting for, your fan from South Africa
Yayyyy
Informative and fun video. You are so enthusiastic Vanessa and I love your presentation. Nice dress, too.
Thank you so much!
I'm intrigued by the dual video/still mode. It says it's limited to full HD video but do you know if you can shoot raw photos at the same time?
It’ll shoot jpgs at the same time. Not raw
Wow, you made me even more excited about my pre-order, totally worth getting up at 5am! LOL I love that you always rock that 28-70! Cheers! Oh yeah, you always have the nicest nails! Werk it! 💅
You're the best! Haha thanks for noticing the nails!
I’m sold 😂 Bring out the R5Cii & R6C 🥳 I’m definitely getting a R5Cii ON SIGHT
You look gorgeous with newly designed interiors 👌Keep it up Vanessa 👍 Thank u 😊
Thank you! 😊
Nice! I think the video features are the biggest uprade, especially the cinema codecs.
I got the R6 II when it came out and I'm still super happy with it. 24 MP is more than enough for any size, but if needed AI upscaling now is so good, I can get 100 MP files that are insanely good (downsized to 45 MP they look better than native R5 files). I've also had 8 MP files printed for ads on buses and billboards many years ago that looked fantastic.
I do sometimes wish I had 4k120 though, even if it was cropped like on the new Z6iii. And yeah, those new cinema codecs will be so nice to work with on the R5 II.
Definitely an upgrade!
Thanks Vanessa, I will buy it Winter Cashback (here in Europe) 2025/2026... until this I moving forward with my R6MKII.🥰
wow I didn't know you and I've learned so many things so fastly here, that's incredible how I couldn't know your channel! a new subscriber!
Yay welcome!! Thanks for being here ☺️
That was a nice walk through of EOS R5 Mark II. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
I would absolutely buy one over the R1.
I plan on selling my R5 and getting the mkii but I'm curious if the R6mkii will get the face register. It would be nice to have that on both cameras for weddings.
That would be nice! I’m not sure if that’s a firmware upgrade possibility or not
No it can’t. It’s part of the actual hardware that helps contribute to the facial registry. It’s also temporarily storing the information in a small internal memory storage system, so that’s only possible with actual hardware. If Canon put the hardware in the R6 mark ii camera then it’s possible, but I doubt it’s there. Also, Canon is coming out with another camera later this year, so keep a look out for the R6 mark iii or an R mark ii (doubt it, but the specs for the patent seem to be a FF sensor camera with lower WiFi specs and other lower tech than the R1, R5 mark ii and R3). So best guess is it’s an R6 mark iii or a Canon R mark ii (if Canon decided to compete directly with Sony’s A7IV Soon to be A7V).
That's cool! Maybe I will lay down my 5D iv one day and upgrade... Maybe!
Had a Canon rep at my local camera shop yesterday with the R5 MKII. Feels more responsive than the R5, no lag when using the pre-capture feature and like the new location for the power switch, although not as comfortable as the R6 still. Put my preorder in today.
Congrats!
What a BEAST!!!😮
Such a beast!
Well, I finally opened the box on the R5 Mark II. I am curious about something. In all of the handling that you did with this camera prior to release, did you take notice of the insanely designed hot shoe cover? You know, Nikon was able to provide a rubberized cover for the D850 that simply slid into and out of place without a push button. Unless I have a defective hot shoe cover, I found it almost impossible to push the release down, and slide the cover off. I finally had to use a small pen to push the button forcefully to remove the cover.
One might think that this was tested at some point in the evaluation process.
I didn’t have a problem with it personally but I only took it off once or twice. I do know they decided to be more secure.
@@VanessaJoy I found something interesting in that you can take the hot shoe cover from an R3 and it slides right on the hot shoe of the R5M2 very easily. There is no push button, or locking mechanism with the R3 cover. There is sufficient drag so the R3 cover will not accidentally come off. The R3 cover is also rubber, not a hard plastic.
It’s crazy how often these cameras come out ,I don’t need a new camera every two years
The older cameras are great tech that’ll last forever practically! Go with what works for you ☺️
I didn't think there was anything i was missing in my R5 and planned to get a lower pixel body for dark concert photography, but you have me reconsidering. The fact that i can get a new R3 for less than this is confusing me, though. So many decisions. . .
Great presentation! I hope you survived the electric shock.
🤣 what’s a little shock between friends?
Awesome!! Great review. People with check this and older version for wedding or other. Great job!!
Glad you liked it!
hi Vanessa
the flash sync goes up in crop mode, does the fps as well ?
60 fps at 20 mpx would be a killer feature for me !!
I don’t believe so
@@VanessaJoy thank you 🙏
Love the V90 memory cards
Me too ❤️
Love the dancing drunks!
🤣
It looks promising Vanessa, are there any rumors about a Canon R6 Mark iii and the R7 Mark ii ???
Not that I know of
@VanessaJoy OK Thank you for your response, I am waiting for the evil troll " Vaness-duuh." to pop up on your future videos regarding the R5 Mark ii.
Canon Rumors says the company registered three hybrid bodies recently, so a third camera can be coming in 2024 (or in early 2025).
EOS R5 Mark II is the best overall for the reason of being a 45 megapixel and, of course the lower price compared to EOS R3 and R1. The only downside is the storage. They should have made it a 2 CF express card instead of 1, for the reason that 8k video and much faster than the traditional sd card. I think that this is the best value camera up to date.
Hahaha it's CMOS of course 🤔 Thank you Vanessa, finally some one came out and said it "we don't need global shutter" 🎉🍾🥂🙌
lol I know I don’t! That’s not to say no one does but I’m good for now for sure
I feel like this is a lot better than the R1 in some aspects
I haven't played with the R1 too much, just a couple of times, but I will said that this R5 Mark II is the camera for me. It's made for what I do
Like the changed stills / photo switch and the On - Lock- Off switch similar to the R6 Mark ll.
It is!
Upscaling has to be taking a crack at filling in the gaps while it's spreading apart the pixels. I'm hoping it does an ok job at that. Probably not noticeable even if it's not, unless you are pixel peeping. Eye movement auto focus is cool.
Yeah I have to say I have no idea how that’s working
They should have added an anti theft or locking system with the eye tracking system. Only your eye or registered eyes could turn the camera on.
🤣
That's a good idea, I know Tony and Chelsea talk about anti theft in cameras and the eye scan may be a great way to get the ball rolling for the future.
I wonder how the new battery performs compared to the old one. I use a mark 1 R6 and R5 for work and the R6 lasts significantly longer on a charge than the R5 using the same batteries. It’s hard to beat the 5s larger images and 120fps video though.
I can imagine it's definitely longer lasting when placed in the older cameras
it's 2x the amps so should be 2x longer life in theory.
@@southbridgeforestHOA it's the same Mah. It just allows more functions.
Good question, as the older batteries stink, IMHO. I have had a lot of issues with the LP-E6N and ‘NH’ batteries. And LUV your moniker. I miss ole ‘88’. 😞
@@RayValdezPhotography thanks, maybe i read the specs wrong. they probably meant 2x amp output , not 2x amp capacity
I always enjoy your camera reviews. The new R5 M2 is awesome, but can't wait for a review on the R1 vs the R3 cameras once the new R1 comes out. One thing, if could ever tell the Canon people that would be incredibly sick to implement in Canon cameras would be Film Simulation of classic film rolls, like the Kodachrome and others, in the camera's Picture Styles.
Oooo I would LOVE THAT
Beautiful camera and a charming review
Thank you kindly!
I can’t decide between this and the Z8, I love the feel of the r5 but the lens options with Nikon are great for the price plus their back lit buttons and better articulating screen for landscape. I’m torn
Hard choice! I’m a fan of Canon RF glass for sure. I feel like that’s always been a selling point for me
The R5 mark ii and the R1 have back lite buttons as well. You can’t go wrong with the R5 mark ii or the Z8 honestly. It’s personal preference. Here’s what I can tell you. Both are going to have 3rd party lenses within the next 12-14 months and Nikon does have a 3rd party Sony E-Mount to Nikon Z-Mount adapter, but Canon’s R5 mark ii is going to have a far superior auto focusing system. This auto focusing system in the R5 mark ii is better than Sonys A1, a9 iii, Nikons Z8 and Z9, but if you don’t need it, Nikons Z8’s AF is going to be better than 7/10 cameras in stores. So get what works for you, just know that there are going to be differences in performance between the R5 mark ii and the Z8 (which really isn’t on par with Canon’s R5 mark 1 AF).
@@MikeHunt4hire I checked, no back button illumination
@@Uisci81yup you’re right. No back lit buttons on the R5 mark ii. That’s my bad. Thank you for replying to my comment
@@MikeHunt4hire I’m just surprised, for a pro camera like that knowingly competing with the z8 you would think that would be an obvious addition
The face registration feature on Sony cameras is a very old function.
Cool!
I'm glad there's finally another company that has face registration. Even Sony APS-C cameras have that feature for what seems like a decade lol
@@Rocky-ARand it’s funny because facial recognition technology has been present since 2009 in canon cameras. The Canon 7D mark 1 had facial recognition technology in live view mode and it works accurately especially for video. Moral of the story, it’s been around for a long time and canon could have come up with facial registry software in their cameras long before Sony did, there just wasn’t a need for facial registry. Also, Sonys first successful camera to achieve that was the A7RV, which is the 5th attempt at that, Canon did it on the R5 mark ii and it’s more sophisticated and responsive. I’ll finish this by saying what I did on another thread. Comparison is the thief of joy. Just be happy that Canon, Nikon and Sony are pushing each other so we all as photographers win?
OMG, a dedicated photo/video switch, who would have thought that would be useful? Oh yeah, the 5D III and 7D designers over a decade ago, just sayin! Doh... 😆
It is a faf on the R5, I know it's a sin, but I've only put the R5 in Vid mode once, so I don't really care, but it was a silly omission.
In all other ways the R5 takes some beating, for me, it is unlikely I'd upgrade, maybe in a year or three, the MK II does bring some nice upgrades, though.
Hope you enjoy your new toy!
Haha new toys ARE the best aren’t they? ☺️
I was going to get the R1 but I was disappointed in the specs when I heard it, I will now instead be getting the R5M2 lol
Does the camera shoot in 4k 60p fine (oversampled from 8k)?
Hmmm I don’t recall. I feel like that’s a good spec spreadsheet stat, I’m leaning towards yes
What flash are you finding compatible with the r5ll?
This preproduction camera wasn’t tested with third party yet so we used the Canon EL-5 and it worked great
I think this just made me go back to film lol. Tech is pretty cool though!
HAHAHAHA
Canon why did you change the battery? I can get the new battery grip. But why just can't use same battery type?
Has to power the new features - I think I saw somewhere specifically what it was though so I guess if those feature weren’t important to you the old batteries would be fine?
Excellent review!
Thank you kindly!
Love your videos…so annoyed that I bought the R6ii 😢
Why is that? I bought it and love that camera
@@VanessaJoy The pixels mostly, but really everything you just said in your video. I really enjoy your videos by the way, I love how real you are, and give great info. So…Thank you.
so today I was shooting with the westscott 400 x2 I put my trigger into HSS but my r5ii would not go pass 1/250 of a second my R5 will go pass that number and shoot fast with the same flash what am I doing wrong
It might be that the flash needs a firmware update to work in HSS with the camera. It happens with newer cameras and third party gear
Canons best camera for sure, the r1 on the other hand, is an utter disappointment as a flagship. My only wish was that the r52 was not as pricey but well I guess a z8 is better value
I’ll be making a video about that soon. I have things to say for sure.
Only real disappointment in the R1 is the megapixel count for so many and the fact that they want it to shoot 120FPS (which is a cool party trick. But definitely not what pros fully utilizing the capabilities of that camera were asking canon for). Chances are most photographers will never but/rent/use the R1. So should canon have padded the stat sheet to appease a bunch of people who will never buy the camera or target the photographers that would buy the R1?
But one of the huge benefits of the R1 will be the cross types in the AF! It’s much needed for mirrorless and I had to use DSLR’s in certain situations due to the fact that NO mirrorless camera was able to grab focus on shiny/reflective objects and other things.
Well done really enjoyed the review..
Thank you kindly!
Beautifu
Another great job.
Thanks again!
What are the settings pictures style for wedding
I kept the picture style on standard
Great video, thanks! One question, you mentioned you switched at some point from r5 mark i to r6 mark ii because of the autofocus features. If at some point as might be likely a potential r6 mark iii gets the AF features of the R5 mark ii, would you consider it instead of this one? Thanks!
I mean, maybe there’s always the possibility but who knows if there will be an R6iii, and when that will be and if it will have some of the other great features of this camera 🤷🏻♀️
The main thing missing from the R6 MKii would be the mode for specific sports. It already had the auto detection for subjects and the pre-burst. When I had the R6 MKii it was an early firmware and the preburst was extremely laggy so I found it useless, sure it improved with firmware updates. Used it on the R5 MKii and it may have introduced slight lag when I did a half press, but overall it seemed much more usable. Now if they gave the R6 MKiii the stacked sensor from the R1 that would be interesting.
How is shooting under low light sitiuations? Over all would you recommend me this camera ? I'm still shooting with the first R I know I'm a dinosaur lol
Low light is one of the places this camera shines!
But does it have 2nd curtain sync for non-canon external flashes? It needs that internal setting option if it doesn't. I've had to use Sony for commercial shoots for second curtain sync with my Profoto lights.
I haven’t tested it but I can’t imagine they’ll be a problem once third parties update their firmware
Are there artificial shutter sounds to choose from when using electronic shutter?
Yes - at least you can have the sound in electronic shutter, don’t remember if there are multiple to choose from
WHY ARE YOU USING SHURE MIC ISTEAD OF RODE NT-1????
Is your keyboard broken?
The register faces function is not new. The R3 has this function too
New for this series of camera!
Even as a wedding videographer I think I would buy the R5c over the R5mii
Oh just realised your wall colour is the same as your logo colour I think it is an amazing camera, my only disappointment is the lack of global shutter, but not for what you think.
Turns out with Globar Shutter the High-Sync speed and flash power loss issue does not exist. You can shoot 1/4 of the power with 1/80000th of the second broad daylight with a standard flash and have enough power.
Other than this it is am amazing camera if you can afford the memory cards which cost more than a decent lens haha :)
Haha yeah it is 😊
That is a cool global shutter feature but it’s not worth the dynamic range loss and ISO limitations to me
@@VanessaJoy yeah. I would want ALL OF IT HAHA 😹
I guess the only improvement over the R5 is the better video performance. I still love my R6, it's good enough for me, I don't do videos (yet).
Oh gosh no…. So much more than that. The AF is out of this world better. Image quality, and wildly better low light performance
@@VanessaJoy Great ! Still a bit too expensive for me as an amateur. Enjoy it !
Litte important question for me :
Dors the proximity sensor on the evf is gone?
As in the one that’ll switch the view from lcd or evf? No that’s still there
Awesome and thank u
Thank YOU!
It would be great if you could register the face of a Bald Eagle and lock on to the Bald Eagles in flight and in any situation.
At $4,300 US Canon should have made the R5MkII with 2 CF Express card slots to keep up with bursts instead the SD card being a bottleneck.
I agree, I said the same thing about the Nikon Z8, but that would also make the camera bigger and then everyone would be complaining about that. As a Nikon shooter, I will stick to my Z9 for numerous reasons and not get the Z8. Not sure that many will choose the R1/3 over the R5mkii. I think it's a good upgrade minus the card slot. I actually think that SD card technology needs to be upgraded somehow to match the CFX cards, maybe that is coming down the pipe, and why Nikon and Canon have chosen to stay with an SD card.
I’m a fan of the combo personally, but subjective for sure
@@VanessaJoy If I were a wedding shooter and I was turning images or prints over the same day as you do, I would agree with the SD card option. I am a commercial and advertising photographer so an SD card is no longer sufficient. I do believe the industry is doing something soon to develop a better SD card. Otherwise, Canon, Nikon, and others would not keep using this type of card slot. Good video, thanks.
It’s about size, weight and heat distribution. Having 2 CF express type b cards doesn’t seem like a lot, but look at it this way. The canon R1 is significantly larger than the R3 and the Nikon Z9 is significantly larger as well. Having 2 CFEXPRESS type B cards seems like a good idea, but to achieve that, the cameras would need to be larger and you’d have to have more heat management. It’s something no one thinks about, but the evidence as to why Canon and Nikon didn’t do it is right there. Also, it would cost more for them which they’d pass on to us the consumer. I just write J-Pegs to my SD and RAW to CFExpress type B cards.
@@reneefariasphoto40 I do plenty of commercial and advertising shoots with the combo too. If I were shooting video or high speed I see the need more for sure, which is why that card slot setup is in the R3/R1, I
Still could see the want for dual CF card slots with some of the video perks of the R5ii for sure though, though then you lose the smaller size most likely. We all have our own needs and wants ☺️
Come to Niagara Falls NY to capture the Mighty Falls and some models.
Ooooo fun!!!
I'm looking forward to the update and will replace my R5 one day but…
Who "pro" scales up images on the camera? That's what Lightroom is for, same for DeNoise.
I really don't understand this step 🤷🏼♂️
This pro would! For a lot of reasons like:
- Same day edits/fast delivery jobs
- Switching from a horizontal to a vertical
- In-camera does a better job than LR
- Those of us who send our work out to editors and want to pre-edit something so the final turns out more accurate to what we had in mind
- bc it’s cool and sometimes doing cool things helps us be more creative
But that’s just me 😊 it’s not for every pro though which I completely respect ❤️
@@VanessaJoy Hey Vanessa, thanks for your quick reply, well I remain curious and skeptical at the same time 😄
In any case, I'm excited about the new cameras🤩
Thanks and greetings from Switzerland
@@Wolfgarden, the denoise feature could potentially be better for high image-noise cases. DpReview has full size sample images.
Does it need external power supply to record 8k 60fps
Nope
Does focus bracketing work with flash?
Hmmmm not sure? I didn’t try that one
Hello, does the shutter closes when you power off like the Mark I. Thank you
Yes
Thank you very much.
Vanessa what about R1 ?
I’ll be making a video about that soon for sure! I just haven’t had as much hands on with it so I don’t like doing videos on camera gear i haven’t extensively played with
Nikon is DOOOOMED with you as influencer (I think, I already said this before ...). Cool/funny review, thanks. ... and this comes from a Nikon shooter, who is not interested in switching at all.
Haha thx
Does it have the equivalent global shutter Sony has?
Nope
Global shutter is truly good for video. Most photographers dont need a global shutter and the read out speed for the R1, R3 and R5 mark ii are so good, it doesn’t need a global shutter. The bowing effect that comes with regular sensors only occurs in electronic curtain mode, if you use mechanical shutter, you won’t really have that effect at all. Now when you combine mechanical shutter with a stacked sensor (that you have in the R5 mark ii) rolling shutter if virtually eliminated. If you used electronic shutter for 30 fps on the R5 mark II. You might have some bowing in some images, but I seriously would doubt it would be noticeable. If so, I image there’s a way to turn off the dual focus AF and reduce the raw color bit count from 14 down to 12 to increase the speed of the camera sensors readout (although with the current R5, you can’t shoot dual pixel AF at 20 FPS, so I don’t see that changing for the R5 mark ii).
The thing you have to look out for on the Sony a9 iii is filling up the buffer quickly with the 120 FPS. It’s not good that Sony used CF express type A cards. The a9 iii is a beast of a camera, however, Sony really limited it with their choice of cards. The A1 Sony is a better option (especially for megapixels and dynamic range) and the Canon R5 mark I keeps up with the A1 and Z9 in every capacity! The Canon R5 mark ii wins against Sonys A1 and Nikons Z9 in every aspect except for sensor readout speed. But the fact that you can shoot 20 FPS with Flash (even for a limited time) on the Canon R5 Mark II it really ups the anti for both Sony and Nikon to place that feature in their flagships. So you’ll see that in the Sony A1 mark ii and the Nikon Z9 mark ii.
Crap…I just purchased an R5 C. But I’m excited for the new battery.
I definitely need to do an r5ii to r5c comparison
@@VanessaJoyPurchased 2 R5cs recently! Comparison would be amazing, but I think it’s obvious I’m going to have to purchase this regardless, as the photo capabilities are clearly superior to our R5s. Thank you kindly for this review and your energy as always.
I heard that firmware will allow the new battery in the prior models.
@@mindcave I wonder if that will be the case for the R6 II as well? The battery life on that camera is already fantastic, but more is better!
@@VanessaJoy I double dare you!
The only way Canon could make this a winner is by lowering the price a lot less than the R5 original.
lol I don’t think inflation will allow for that but I’m with you if they do that to the price of groceries at the same time!
Too much new tech in the R5 mark ii to do that.
Does the hot shoe accept the new EL1 light?
I think you need the hot shoe adapter for that. I was using the EL-5
@@VanessaJoy thank you for the reply
@@VanessaJoy bummer. Thank you
Does it have blinkies/zebras for stills?
Blinkers yes of course. Zebra I don’t think so
@@VanessaJoy Thank you Vanessa, but just to confirm, it will show exposure warning blinkies for overexposed areas in live view while you're composing the shot, right? I have an R5 but it only shows such blinkies when reviewing shots already taken. So if the R5mkII added this feature it will be nice addition (and I'm still hoping they can/will add it to the R5 via firmware update).
@@philipe3871no it won’t
Vanessa your making it hard for me not to divorce my 5d mark 111 we have been so good together.
Haha
Pretty sure the upscaling is for JPG only, not RAW files.
It’s for raw files - you process the raw, to a jpg, in the camera
Great presenter👌
Glad you think so!
I thought you were quirky, joking about an imaginary Canon rep, and talking to your imaginary rep until you showed pictures of Nino! lol
😂
Photographers like it. Videographers don’t. Neither like the price. And sucks that you must add the price of multiple new batteries which ups that price. Really, Canon? A new battery with last roll out and now yet another new battery? As an R5 user who shoots photos and video I was hoping for some better video. I’m also concerned of overheating, which I never have to worry about with my R5. Having to use a fan add-on and monitor things to try and not have it die during a shoot is no fun. I was ready to give them my money, but not very intrigued. Thanks for the video.
If you wait five to ten years, the cameras' electronics may produce much less heat, but then you will be complaining about something else. Heavy image processing (for video) creates the heat. Similarly to high performance graphics cards in computers. The grip plus fan is a good idea and the price is reasonable.
Wow
yay - first!
WHERE IS IBIS High Resolution 400 MP mode??? R5 MII IS IN FACT A DEVOLUTION.
Very strange keyboard. You should get that looked at
lol crazy drunk people are fun to photograph at weddings

@@VanessaJoy or they start spilling drinks on you and your gear. -_-
@@VanessaJoyor hitting on you while you’re trying to do your job! Had this one woman all over me and she kept grabbing me everywhere. One of the family members had to come get her.
19:37 pretty cool 1/400th sync speed in APS mode, still would like a global shutter XD
That’s what I was originally told, but as I put in my description there’s a chance that’s not accurate and has changed🤨 it happens sometimes
What are the photo advantages of having a global shutter and when would you use those with unlimited sync speed capabilities?
@@MikeHunt4hire sunny day with 1.2 lenses
@@rollandelliottyou can use a CPL, a neutral density filter (this works really well especially with strobes and shooting at f/1.2), you can control the light on the strobes using flash power output, light modifiers, reflectors, etc… I get it. Global shutter is the marketing buzz word everyone has gravitated towards since Sony released the a9 iii. But it’s not nearly as effective as a leaf shutter for strobes shooting at faster speeds. If you used a leaf shutter your image quality would be better using strobes and shooting wide open on a sunny day plus better dynamic range and 16 bit color with a medium format camera. I could go on about other alternatives where you can use strobes, shoot at F/1.2 and be in the sun. So if that’s the only reasons to talk about global shutter, it’s not a valid one just marketing material you’ve understood from the manufacturer. 😊
@@rollandelliottoh and if you’re talking about shooting at f/1.2 without a strobe, all you need is a neutral density filter to reduce the amount of light, or you can shoot at a way faster shutter speed since these cameras can handle it. So there’s multiple options. But you can shoot at f/1.2 with the R5 and R5 mark ii by changing your settings in the exposure triangle when you’re outside. 👍
Is that a Gene Gray X-men action figure behind you? Lol.
Heck yeah it is
Did you also get the Canon R3II?
Nope
@@VanessaJoy That's okay, the R5II is really what suits you.
Great video you always do amazing at show the thing msg we want to know .
So nice of you
