actually you don't have to stop to record each component of the drum. after you position the notes the first sound you want (in this vid: snare), you can hold SHIFT while the pattern is still playing to choose another part of percussion you want just pressing the keyboard notes to find it. after you release the SHIFT button you can record this new sound (kick, hats or whatever) without stop the music. it gets the process a lot faster =)
Thank you soooo much! I literally had given up on my groovebox! Ive had it since the 90's and thanks to you now know how to use the drum machine feature, LOL!
Nice tutorial, it straightened some things out for me. I am stil finding out how to erase a User pattern, or at least the sounds that i recorded live. Not the rhytmm parts
I used to have one of these! I could program fast, then I switched to a Yamaha RM1X and forgot how to program on the 303. lol I made a video like this on the RM1X, it's not easy to program at first either. Keep it up Bro! Great How To drjackohollious!!!!
@xanthrax13 the synth and all of the drums are on different assignable buttons below the knobs. You can controll what is on and off and when they come on or off.
Thank for this video. Someone gave me one of these and this is the only decent tutorial I could find. Dont know why this thing gets bad reviews, I got an ipad which is the best thing since sliced bread and I still play with the mc303 all the time. And not sure if the other people who asked found out but im pretty sure you can use this as a master or slave midi. Ill try and figure that out and post a reply video, thanks again man
I am sure you can select other drum sounds without keep stopping and starting. Just hold shift while you press the key you want, while you hold shift it wont record it just plays the sound so you can select. Its been a while but I am sure thats correct.
This is still the most helpfull MC 303 vid on youtube, it helped me out so much about 18 months ago when i first got one, then i sold it as i fell in love with electribes, but this makes me wanna buy one again . . . . . f**k it, ebay here i come : )
fantastic man, but do you know how to drop that synth in later. So like, once you've finished recording all the different synths and beats, how do you control when each new sound begins?
i can not seem to get the recording quantize to work...any clues on that? I can see how it works in playing back a rhythm, but not while recording it...
I followed tutorial from start and when i selected jungle the key you were hitting for a that snare noise, the same key on mine was like a tom or a bongo sound. Do you know why this may be? Is it possible someone before me altered the sounds for d06 JGL ( jungle) Thanks.
Hey dude, you managed to get the mc303 to sequence external synths? Trying to get it to talk to my Kong minilogue. Can get it working the other way but no luck sending out midi info. Keep up the good work. Peace
This video was very helpful. I was making beats literally out of the box when my MC 303 arrived in the mail. Take a look at my channel and let me know what you think. Working on a jungle tune I'll upload soon!
I think no, this is one of the mistakes in the 303. You can play with the velocity of the sounds while you record it, but once is recorded you can only change the volume of all the rythm part as one.
Thank God You put this up...keep em coming this thing is cool but a horror to figure out!
Great vid, nothing beats 90s production gear.

Thanks so much man, that was exactly what i was missing in the whole process!

Great video, i got my 303 a couple of days ago so this is really helpful, thanks

great video, just started messing with my groovebox and this cleared up a few questions i had. thanks.

best tutorial for step by step rec., thx
We need more tutorials for this whacky machine!
@scheller00 Yeah that's right, you can shift between sounds on the rhythm part by holding shift - no need to stop the pattern.

No I dont, but i would like to find out. I was afraid to start making lots of user patterns because of the internal battery issue.
it is a difficult machine to figure out i am trying to use it more and more. It looks cool, but a pain!
Great, glad this helped!
sweet. im new to it. i will try that.
Many things are saved automatic, any others you can do it using the SETUP W function. Key #15 in the keyboard.
@papanewgunny I sure dont. I think you need a midi interface.
@hongdekong yep, you are controlling the box with midi.
@CARLinJPN you are welcome

just got hold of a roland D2 which is basically an mc-505, wouldnt part with it, its fantastic
OOOOooooooooooooooo. So that's how you use the silver box? I have been using it to prop the window open to let the breeze in... o_O
great machine
i will try.

Can you change the volume of the different drum sounds individually?
Saludos !!!!!!

can you just plug in a midi controller and play the synth sounds?
Same here.
@freakybeats89 Cheers bro

Look at the users guide, there are all the error codes.
how would you save and/or delete a pattern you've made?
Yeh cool man
Genius!
Headover recorded....wtf
How, for the love of god, do you edit the pattern..? It's like this thing was purposely designed to be user-unfriendly.
You dont know what are you doing right?
