High Lakes Shake Down, Getting In Some Trail Time... FJ40, Bronco, and Jeep

- On 08/29/2023, Adam, Chris, Jerry, Kevin and I went up to the High Lakes outside of Chico CA for some light wheeling and testing. My Grandfather Jerry loves it up there and I was happy to bring him along. My FJ40 hadn't been off road yet the bronco was brand new! We had a good time, worked out some kinks, found some new ones and we all made it down the hill.

Looks like you had a great trip, always fun to have brake downs when out and about....... as long as you can get home!
Yeah, it’s awesome to do what they’re meant to do!
Great video! I live in Chico I’m building a 1972fj40! I Love the high lakes.
Remind me to get you invited the next time. I’ll probably put it in Instagram when!
Nicely done!
Should have brought the fly rod man, imagine a day like that and catching a trout too…
Looks like fun!
Was just the right amount of adventure for how much time I had! Looking forward to heading back up there.
Oh man, I need to get a hook into one of them lakes!
I almost brought my fly rod, but I wanted to focus on getting there and back…
40series in its natural environment
Right? It felt right taking it out finally, and banging on it a little.
This is why we build them! I love to see it. I am also going to pack my Milwaukee angle grinder every time I hit the trail.
Yeah, that cutoff wheel came in handy! I’ll be brining the M12 version. It’s slow, but easier to pack.
Good to see your LC on the trail. I Love hearing that 2F… purrs like a lion.
I think the exhaust might be a little overkill… but I do love the sound of it.
Looks like you guys had a great time! I’m glad it was a success, I know it meant a lot to grandpa!
He loved it honey.
Looks fun. Wish I could have made it. Always good to make older people happy.
There’ll be more of these trips. For sure man.
Great video. Thx for sharing. Good to see them in their element : )
Was nice banging the old steel around. I have a locker for the rear of my 40, I just need to get it in there some time down the road.
Great to see your 40 and the other rigs on the trail!
It was awesome, but it only wet my appetite for adventure at this point. Wouldn’t mind doing something over night.
Thanks for the video but great to see 40 doing what they for but ware is this trail if can tail you guys have allot fun hop I can go out there to thanks
The High Lakes was a good beginner trail for me. Just to work out the kinks and all. The rubicon was definitely a more difficult trail and for sure showed me some stuff I need to upgrade.
Glad to see you out enjoying the FJ.
Definitely enjoyed this trip.
Nice to see you wheeling the 40, I always bring a few bolts and parts when I go out in the back country with my 49 Willy’s wagon as it likes to challenge me with what falls off next
It seems like the parts list for wheeling evolves after every time out. I’m definitely brining some extra hardware next time.
Temps at 204? That's totally fine! How hot was it, though? If it was over 90 you have nothing to worry about. I'm not sure which fan clutch you have but for extra piece of mind an aqua will go a long way.
I burped it again after the trip, managed a few more bubbles… I’ll keep after it. I feel like it should be a little cooler, but it was about 97 out.
Love the NRA sticker! 👍
A timeless classic. It’s vintage, so I kept it.
Great video, man. How do you like the skinner tires on the trail?
Aired down, to about 11 psi. They did awesome. I have a set of mud terrains, Dick Cepek’s, might use them next time?
Of course the 40 made it…
Hey, I was nervous… but I should have trusted in the Toyota gods.
I hope Rachel hears about the "Womanly duties" and serves you a can of dog food for supper! Congrats on getting enough work done to take the FJ40 on a real adventure!
She’s the best, for certain. It was great to finally do something off road. In my own ride.
