  • Depending on which decade it is, The Blob is a creature of homegrown origins that gains quasi sentience through becoming a larger organism and then begins hunting down humans. However, how it is able to do this and what exact micro organism it is, is never really discussed. But we dont do that here! So in todays episode, We will be discussing what it is, where it comes from, how it got to be capable of achieving what it does now and what it does to the human body when it does begin its digestion process!

Fun fact: The 5 pound silicone used for the Blob in the original movie from the 50's has yet to dry out, and is stored in a lil' 5 pound bucket. Also, the town in which the original movie was filmed in hosts an annual Blob fest, in which one of the events is recreating the iconic scene where a hoard of frighten people run from a packed movie theater that the Blob had invaded.
My dad and I like to watch movies on Fridays, and one of those movies was the original Blob. A cheesy B-list movie turned A-list, definitely worth checking out c: Most certainly fascinating to learn about what the creature may realistically be!

I think Paul’s death is a little more horrific to me, just because it looks to painful, but the phone booth is also super terrifying! I don’t know what they used to make the blob in the 80’s but it looks so good with the digesting faces still kind of moving in it, I’m sure CGI is easier in the long run but there’s something so visceral about the effects we see here.

The human shock response (which comes in many delightful flavors depending on how it was induced) just kind of “nopes” us out when sufficient trauma is experienced. Your vascular system tries to slow down blood loss, but your adrenal system is trying to speed up blood flow leading to a massive dip in blood pressure, pretty much flipping your “off” switch.

The part where that poor boy got nabbed by the blob in the sewer before screaming with his hands reaching out for help as he was digested stuck with me for a long time. It was the first time I'd seen a kid die in any media, and I was pretty young myself at the time. For whatever reason, it had never occurred to me before that kids can die too. Granted, I respect the film for being bold enough to go that far but can't imagine what agony being melted alive like that would be. It's a nasty way to go. On another note, this remains the youngest that I've ever seen Kevin Dillion, Shawnee Smith or Jeffrey DeMunn onscreen.

@@thedragonlee76 Jaws was one of my first horror films and remains one of my favorite movies ever made. I don't remember exactly when I first saw the scene of poor little Alex Kintner's death, but I'm fairly certain I saw The Blob's remake first. There's a possibility I could be misremembering, but I'm like 60% sure?
The latter affected me more though, which is probably why I mentioned it, largely because we see the damage more clearly with effects detailing the melting skin. I'd never seen that on a child character before. While Alex's fate was equally tragic, I'd argue it was less gruesome in context of what we actually see onscreen.
We never see bites or a corpse (The censors obviously wouldn't have allowed it). It was all pretty deliberately clouded by that fountain of his blood in the ocean when the shark takes him down, and we only briefly see him being dragged underwater before he disappears. From one POV, that's scarier because our imaginations fill in the blanks.
Nonetheless, The Blob's remake left more of a visual impression on me.

I find it fascinating that a way has been found to not only basically say "dude, can you not?" to cancerous cells but get said cells to go "Ah, sorry my bad lemme fix that" by flashing blue lights at them. I don't know how far the research has progressed since then (if at all) but it sounds like a massive leap forward that could be applicable to other fields involving rogue cells like certain autoimmune diseases.

What he said is right but only in very strict conditions and also in rats. Sadly it's kinda like the alpha wolf study, which has been debunked and proven wrong, its popularity still out shines the facts.
What we know is if you drink eat the same meal consistently for a month with regular soda and then do the same with diet you will lose weight with the diet. You also can't ignore all the problems with processed sugar and HFCS. So even if you assume the diet myth is true, you're still probably better off with artificial sweeteners.
Even if you look back 5 years ago the claim was diet soda caused 1 diabetes (another rat study) and 2 cancer (not sure on the origin) but as more studies are done that debunk these the "goal post" moves.
That said water is obviously the best choice but we all have our vices.

This was a great video that explains and expands alot of the movie,I watched all of the 3 Blob movies and the reboot version is my favorite by being terrifying and the most unique,I would have love to continue this movie franchise, but I think is best not to do it since not all reboots and remakes can be good or better than the original.

The Blob and The Thing are the best remakes ever in my opinion.

I remember I watched this movie when I was 4... Yep. I sneaked up to parents room and watched the movie from a corner, so they didn't see me =D I had nightmares later and was very afraid of sewer lids, water drains and such =) That was great!

FINALLY! I was wondering when you get to this movie. One of my personal favorites. The 1988 film scared the crap out of me when I was younger. The diner attack scene is one of my absolute favorites.

May be worth looking into The Beast from Homeworld Cataclysm at some point, it'd be interesting to see your thoughts on what it does to people.

I remember seeing this movie when I was too little to see it, and the phone booth scene terrorized me so bad.
Still gives me the heebee-jeebees today tbh.

Another great video. Always enjoyed the 80s remake of the Blob. For spooky October you could give the creature from the 1998 movie Phantoms a shot assuming there's time. Not sure how much biology is involved with it though considering what it's made of. Anyway keep up the videos. I'm watching no matter what you choose to do.

Nobody gonna mention how our boy fired a LAW straight upwards in a cramped space, but somehow hasn’t been killed or the least bit injured by backblast? Or for that matter the pressure wave from the actual warhead.
