I love your channels and this is one of my top 5 favorite movies. I think Nathan Fillion's a pretty awesome actor, the last few days I've been re-watching Castle so thanks for the video.
I really liked how they didn't make grant a villian before his infection, they could have made him a unrepentant jerk but went the extra mile to show him as a troubled man who really dose love his wife.
Yeah, he’s not a horrible dude. The marriage seemingly just isn’t really working out. Not really anyone’s fault they just seemingly moved super quickly, got together and realized “this isn’t really…working out is it?”

Grant isn't still inside seeing what's going on and occasionally getting control, he's been straight up absorbed, but The Long One hadn't encountered any creatures with complex emotions before, meaning when they were absorbed it felt them. The Long One starts believing it IS Grant and has its own love for Starla. Its all in the making of features on the DVD.
i know this is an old comment, but do they mention why the wombs fall dead when grant/long is destroyed? it is mentioned here that there's nothing actually controlling their brains per se and i think that can be well inferred from the little dialog Brenda and the basement people spout. Brenda was of course past the point of no return, and the mayor was shot of course, but what about the other 4 or 5 people there? We see them drop dead...
In the flashbacks we do see that many of those creatures are analogous to rats or other small animals. At most there might have been things on the level of say, monkeys.
So essentially in absorbing a mentally complex creature such as a human it got uno reversed and was instead so confused it became grant taking on a singular personality for an acient hive mind?
@@banmeliodas6561 more or less, yeah. There was one scene where someone starting to be absorbed saw cow-like creatures being hunted and absorbed well before earth, but after that it's all things the scenes between post-infection Grant and Starla from Grant's POV. I think "You eat anything when hungry enough" is part of "survival mode" a human can shift to. Basically. we regress back to cavemen and only need to eat, drink, sleep and reproduce and we do our damnest to do just that while on survival mode. I won't say this for certainty, but I remember some research saying that in past decade, we're slowly losing survival instict, about 5% of population can't apparently shift to survival gear anymore. Our minds are such scary and fascinating things.
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 Isn't that a good thing though? we are losing those instincts because they don't matter anymore and our higher brain functions and sense of morality are more important.
@@candlestone5397 You act as though it's not possible for nuclear war, just war on general, any major disaster that drastically changes life is not possible. This movie is actually a comment on the failing health system in the US. This man would rather go home after being darted by an actual alien then be stuck with the crippling debt of hospital bills.
I always interpreted the Grant thing still having feelings for Darla as the alien itself feeling (Grants) emotions for the first time. Feeling loneliness strongly now that having a human brain as opposed to an animal. She even plays towards this at the end when she tricks the creature remarking how lonely it has been all these years all alone. Grant still being aware but trapped inside his own body unable to do anything is wonderfully horrifying. But I think the parasite has full total control yet struggles to deal with these new feelings.
IN the film "PHANTOMS" the evolved shoggoth can absorb all of you including what is in your mind. The shoggoth believes everything in that brain a serious drawback.

Damn Roanoke I’ve had a twrrible day today. This made things better and my mood brightened soon as i saw you released this 2 hours ago. And its on Slither fuck yes.
I've never seen a movie in need of, not just a sequel, but an entire continuation of the store, as Slither. The fact is, there is an end credit scene where a cat is wandering Grant Grant's house, and comes across what's left of Grant Grant's brain, and then the Long One infects the cat.
The parasite was actually in complete control the whole time. The reason the alien was sweet on Grant's wife is because the parasite itself was lonely and desperate for companionship
26:17 not necessarily. It could be that the slugs produced are made to share DNA and neural pathways with that planet's terrestrial lifeforms. They could be made from the biomass of the host that they spawned from, as well as the meat that they consumed. Despite the ravenous hunger that the wombs are shown to have, the only biomass that they crave is for raw flesh of any kind. It would be more likely that they require the genetic material of as many different species as possible in order to be able to take over the different types of hosts. It could also be likely that the needle has mapped the neurology of the alpha host and has used this information to make the slugs more compatible with the neural pathways of similar species. If memory serves, we only see them infect mammals, a similar type of lifeform as the original host, with similar neurology, similar biomass structure.
This "Species" seems to be a more disgusting/sadistic infection than the Flood. At least the Flood has the decency to put the infected out of their misery, some of the infections from Halo 3 show marines snapping their necks. Albeit, a couple cases show that the infected are unfortunate enough to be, cognizant? Conscious? To bare witness to the horrors the Flood are having the person's hijacked deformed body are doing.
I’m just curious about the blob of mass in the visions the girl got in the bathtub scene and also what that place would look like if the parasite had won control over that town btw Roanoke keep up the awesome vids... it fuels our knowledge
We indeed do trust you Mr Roanoke the omnissiah scientist! Though we definitely dont trust youtube! Alas I think vampire aliens from life force or the The Thing alien ship pilot would beat this alien 1v1
It seems like the Necromorphs. Gathering biomass to evolve into a Brethren Moon. At the same time it is almost like the Flood from Halo, reshaping planets.
They prob cant communicate from planet to planet with that distance but the new needle could have the memory info from the thrower already imprinted onto it. Like how some animals already know where on earth to meet up for breeding even if it's there first year. So every needle has the memory of each place b4 it but only up to the point it was made. And it still could be thrown randomly. Space is rather empty but give an object infinite amount of time flying thru space it will eventually hit everything. That thing could of been tossed billion years ago.
You know, a lot of people say that they think the real Grant is in there after the infection, but I beg to differ. I think Grant died as soon as The Long One claimed his body, and he's just going off of his memories and instincts. Many of these breakdowns I've watched have mentioned the part where he comes home and starts tearing up before they have make-up sex, and the scene where Starla is showering and he shows intent to use her body as a womb, but runs off and does it to Brenda instead. The general consensus seems to be that Grant was influencing the parasite to keep his wife safe. I think everything after the infection was 100% the actions of The Long One. I feel like it can all be tied to what he says later: "I never experienced love before." My theory is that the parasite itself was so swept up in suddenly feeling complex emotions after a million years of existing on a primitive level that he wanted to protect Starla with very little influence from Grant. Grant loved her, so The Long One also loved her.
I wonder if organic quantum entanglement could be used to communicate like a binary code with multiple particles acting as a form of a telegram. it would explain stuff like the flood from halo and this creature. Probably a lot of holes there but is a cool thought
To anyone worried about the baby in the beginning, he is fine. When they find Brenda in the barn, she asked if he is alright, and a officer let's her know his with family and is fine.
I actually really liked the original upload, glad to see one with more clear script and details! Your vids have taught me more than my highschool bio class did!

Edit: I’m kinda a Nathan Fillion fan boy so I could be biased on my love for this film lol
Youre speaking my language chad, Nathan is the man
Love me some Nathan Fillion lol
I remember i started watching some clips of this movie 2 Years ago And then i started watching Castle And The Rookie. I watched this movie again And i immediatly noticed him.
@@matijasostojic4288 Watch Firefly if you haven’t already, it’s an amazing show that was unfortunately cut short too soon.
@@matijasostojic4288 Also watch Serenity afterwards BC that movie pretty much wraps up the loose ends from the show.
The thought of mountain sized slugs flinging spores through space and communicating like brother moons will forever keep me up at night, so... thank you for that
I love it when Roanoke starts randomly talking about vehicles when recapping movies. Reminds me of watching movies with my dad lol.
I’d believe it, modern society is having profound psychological consequences. I could see it being more than 5%.
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 Isn't that a good thing though? we are losing those instincts because they don't matter anymore and our higher brain functions and sense of morality are more important.
@@candlestone5397 yeah, but what happens when we DO need those instincts again?
@@GoldenWolf115 we make do without, as we do without all the other things we evolved to not have.
@@candlestone5397 You act as though it's not possible for nuclear war, just war on general, any major disaster that drastically changes life is not possible. You have got to live in a fantasy world to not see how survival instincts can easily become important, we cannot guarantee constant progress and peace.
This movie is actually a comment on the failing health system in the US.
This man would rather go home after being darted by an actual alien then be stuck with the crippling debt of hospital bills.
Came here for the title, staying for the science.
ayyyy thanks for watching man!
Roanoke, you are the reason I continue to study biology. Your enthusiasm is so infectious (like rabies) and it reminds me why I wanted to study biology. Thank you :)
I'm from Alberta, same as Nathan Fillion. They named a building after him and he insisted it be called "The Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion. Which makes me love him even more.
I would listen to a half hour video of this man narrating grass growing I swear… such an incredible storytelling voice
This deserves a sequel or part 2👏
I agree
I remember watching the original video, and this is definitely better presented. No doubt you've gotten better at this.
7:04 Back in the day poor little 12y/o me with unlimited HBO access turned this on and this particular shot was burned into my nightmares for years. Now I love this movie!
As someone who’s been recently watching a lot of your older videos I can say it’s nice to see you revisit something and do a more in depth analysis of an old video. Also please do an episode about deep star six. It’s like a b-list combo of the thing and alien and it’s aweful in the best way
Hey Roanoke, have you ever seen the movie The Faculty? The parasite in that one seems interesting considering its aquatic ability. Hope you check it out one day
Yes please do
Oh please do! It's got Elijah Woods in it and the movie is awesome!
Pretty sure he already did this one
That movie has a great soundtrack.
Man, hadn't thought about that movie in years.
You missed mentioning the post credit scene showing The Long One survived the explosion and infected a cat. Otherwise solid analysis of an awesome movie.
Revisiting a subject when you know more / want to improve on something is always good. Keep up the good work, my guy! Been enjoying the heck out of everything recently.
Yyyeah, as someone who lived in florida from age eightish to nearly eighteen I can firmly tell you that we have a saying in that state. "If you're not living in Charleston, you're basically living in the middle of nowhere." It is _criminally_ underdeveloped outside of Charleston.
I remember this movie when I was a kid. I was so disturbed by the trailer they had for it on sci-fi but always wanted to watch it. Thanks for finding this and giving an awesome breakdown of this hive minded invader.
South Carolina native here. Most of South Carolina's focus is located near the coast and along the older towns in the state. If a town doesn't have a college, tourist hotspot, or a major production of something you'll probably see a poorly maintained area.
Your writing has absolutely improved over the years! Keep doin what you do!
Me having zero knowledge of how body parts are called in medical english "WAIT.... STERNUM ISN'T THE ASS?!?!"
This is now officially an educational channel.
I was saying to myself "This seems familiar" and when you said 2 years ago I was like "Man I have been subbed to this channel for over 2 years now"
Love your videos man! Keep it up!
Glad you like them!
I think they were going to set this in West Virginia, but then were afraid of the "implications." I always loved this movie, it had tons of jokes and some craaazy body horror!
You're also going to give me nightmares about immortal bacterial spores. Whee.
Love your supernatural joke you put in about the impala
objectively best year XD
Think I've said it before, but, if the studios n such are getting your vids taken down they need to rethink things. I've actually bought a few of these movies because of your videos. Movies that otherwise are well outside what I usually watch.
Thank you for your dedication sir, and thank you twice over for the content.
28:27 Or the fleshy meteorite got ejected from a bigger..fleshy meterite once getting 'close' to the space of a planet with life on it. This would allow the fleshy meteorites direction to be steered/altered for more succes.
Alien horror creature understands how adding extra stages to its infection rocket means it can get more done while out in space. Would be scary if sperm learns the same trick.
@@matthewdavon7081 Them eggcels cant run from that
I find this theory more likely. It would make more sense if a biomass were free roaming through the void, and upon detecting advanced enough electrical signals, had a worthwhile and known target to aim at.
Either way this movie low key advocates the concept of panspermia and it’s awesome.

Funny movie and I loved the soundtrack. I applaud your restraint in not just filling the video with funny scenes from the movie- I know I would.
I would like to see a video essay that hypothesizes more deeply about how Brenda's mutations and deformities led her to turn into this.. well, whatever she turned into.
Yes so glad you remade this, it's such a fun movie, great analysis as usual
This movie is one of my favourite alien movies
then I hope you enjoy this episode bro!
I was hoping you'd cover this one, kudos for redoing it, and thank you for being stubborn enough to redo it!
I'd love to see you cover the Plague of Madness from Primal. There are a lot of mysteries surrounding that one.
7:20 they mention later in the movie that the baby was fine. Somebody found them, I don't think they ever said who
The parasite was actually in complete control the whole time. The reason the alien was sweet on Grant's wife is because the parasite itself was lonely and desperate for companionship
One of the best horror comedies iv ever seen in a long time. Really loved the extra steps you took to get this video out.
Roaches have been here 350 million years and they haven't even invented guns yet?
Yeah, we top.
The return of the slither!
new and improved! lmfao
I love your alternative ways of saying "gun" or "grenade"
Alien hive mind: “You can not beat me! I have existed for millions of years, nothing you can do will stop me!”
Me: haha fire go brrr
I love the dedication you had to try and upload this 30 times
Hopefully it doesn't get taken off
This "Species" seems to be a more disgusting/sadistic infection than the Flood.
Remaking a whole video, that’s what I love about your channel, your dedication
XCOM 2 has a lot of unique aliens in it. I think they would make interesting videos.
Just watched this a few months ago and hadn’t seen it in so long!!! Forgot how horribly great it was!!
I’m just curious about the blob of mass in the visions the girl got in the bathtub scene and also what that place would look like if the parasite had won control over that town btw Roanoke keep up the awesome vids... it fuels our knowledge
WEEEEEEEE! I'm willing to rewatch this!
(I think this was one of the first videos of yours I watched lol)
We indeed do trust you Mr Roanoke the omnissiah scientist! Though we definitely dont trust youtube!
Alas I think vampire aliens from life force or the The Thing alien ship pilot would beat this alien 1v1
New vid let’s go I can watch this while working on the bike keep it up
ayyy thanks for watching man!
It seems like the Necromorphs. Gathering biomass to evolve into a Brethren Moon. At the same time it is almost like the Flood from Halo, reshaping planets.
It seems like another form of the flesh that hates from SCP.
@@HawaiianForgeStudios more like this one yes, as the necromorphs require the hsot to die to overcome it instantly

Did I watch this the first time you posted it? Yes. Did this stop me from watching it again? Absolutely not. Wonderful as always.
You should do a remake of the dead space & l4d! Those are from the beginning of the adventure 🤣
waitin for the remaster!
I can't be the only one hyped for it!
Slither was such an awesome movie-- its really great to see someone appreciate the comedy aspect
Yep. I’m from SC. Can confirm that even the nicer towns you’ll still see areas like this.
Can you do a video on The Ripley Virus also known as the Byrus in the novel from the movie "Dreamcatcher" released in 2003? 💡👍🏻
I’m always happy to listen to you talk about a favorite movie of mine. Thanks for revisiting Slither!
"My writing is better now"

Never change Roanoke
I have seen the original video and now the remake. I love the effort that went into making the video completely over after the reupload failed
To anyone worried about the baby in the beginning, he is fine. When they find Brenda in the barn, she asked if he is alright, and a officer let's her know his with family and is fine.
And he couldn't have just been lying to not make her last moments even worse?
I actually really liked the original upload, glad to see one with more clear script and details! Your vids have taught me more than my highschool bio class did!

I'm from South Carolina and I just gotta say.... you're right it sucks.
I love these videos~ It's so cool to learn the science behind what may or may not make the things that happen in horror movies possible. Thanks for all the work you put into this!
As someone from South Carolina, this movie doesn’t quite capture our towns as accurate as it is really. I always love when movies do mention South Carolina though, Maze Runner mentions it too.
