Tina Mouzone thank you very much for your response and I agree that cleaning is an important part of thriving. Because of the simplicity of this notion however it almost seems counterintuitive that cleanliness can play such an important role in our lives. Several yrs ago I realized I was taking care of my car the same way I took care of my body. I didnt get the regular maintenance it needed and only took it to the shop when something drastic happened to it. I started taking care of my car, getting the oil changed, cleaning it, etc. I also began to eat healthier, took supplements when needed and exercised. My current car is in good shape and so is my body. I now take care of all of my things much better.

I clicked this link from “The cure for anxiety” video. I actually got a bit anxious while watching this video because my bed room is so disorganized and cluttered. It’s already 10:45 in the night and thinking about my messy room just created more stress. So, I decided to act. Instead of letting the anxiety built up, I started doing chores and put all the unwanted stuff into one huge bag. Cleared up the floor and closed my closet. There are no clothes on my floor and chair and 90% of the decluttering is complete within 30 minutes. So I was literally procrastinating on a work that would only take half an hour to complete. I’m positive I will sleep better knowing that I took a step to make my day better. If half an hour can make such a huge difference, think about how much better my life would would be if I simply implement the good things I learn. Thank you for this great video ❤️

3:12 no way, the psychological effects of cleaning/organizing your space is one of the most satisfying feelings you can have, especially if your are or have been stuck in a cortisol saturated adrenal fatigue exhaustion loop. It's the most effective stress relief I know of, even more effective than exercise...because it's literally taking back control of your situation with your own two hands, in a way you can see the immediate results of your efforts. Cleaning is a gateway drug.

when you clean house it fixes brain fog, and along the way you figure out stuff that's been bothering you. Cleaning is a gateway drug to motivational momentum, self improvement. Just like exercise, the hardest part is deciding to start!

    • @ms.q7445
      @ms.q7445 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

shatteredsquare And just like exercise there’s a downward or upward spiral-being fit makes it easier to work out or being out of shape leads to problems that make it hard to be active (when you carry enough extra weight just walking can wear you out so you don’t do it and get heavier) ... the day after you clean the whole house if you spill something on the counter you wipe it up, if the floor hasn’t been swept in a week and you drop crumbs on the counter you are more likely to brush them off onto the floor!

I knew a guy whose apartment room was an absolute fucking nightmare.
Dude had about three pans with old leftover food in them, he had a pet rabbit so the ground was littered with grass (along with just plain old filth and dust), his (apparently used) underwear and clothes were all over the floor and the whole place stunk of cigarettes.
I actually hesitated to even step into the room.
My room isn't always tidy, but it's clean, I have no clue how some people can live in a place that filthy; to no one's surprise, the guy looked like he had serious depression, even his body posture suggested it.

When I came home I found a dead cricket in my hoodie. Gross. I used to catch grasshoppers so should be used to it. How can people can live in such mess? I watch tv programmes about Hoarders, they seem miserable. This guy I was talking about he doesn't care about himself or his environment. In the end, letting him go was better option for me. She can't chill out or be present in the moment most of the time . This is because she believes that the outside express more than the inside and it's never that way(she has many unsolved traumas and feel guilty about wrong decisions she made in the past).

I did my best to focus on getting things done regardless of what i'm feeling and when i moved on to the next task, i realized that everything was already over. I got so absorbed and focused my everything to what i'm doing, it felt amazing. What the unbelievable things is, this got recommended to me right after finishing the activity. Just wow.

Cleaning, and keeping your place clean, helps relax your mind so much. You get home from the chaos of the day and you are relieved to have a place that it is in order and you don't have anything else to handle. Get home to a messy place and it's just more stress. I go through periods of chaos and order. The chaos periods almost always coincide with bouts of depression or high stress. Making myself clean up my place starts to lift that feeling since the state of your home does reflect your state of mind.
Dang it, now I have to clean up my place again.

wow! thanks! this confirms my thoughts regarding a clean environment. I'm fond of washing dishes (i'm father of the family), and cleaning the house, which I don't mind at all, in fact, I find it mentally relaxing, and keeps me from stress. I keep reminding my kid to make his bed waking up in the morning, and be sure to clean as you go. I had maids in the past for so many years, and I found it stresstful to have them around LOL. THE great benefit I get for cleaning the house is achieving a clear mind, ideas become crystal clear just like the glasses and plates I wash after dinner. Cleanliness is next to Godliness---when the Lord rose from the dead, His linen cloth was folded neatly before He left His tomb, the Scriptures says!

I always do the dishes in tree (yoga pose). I give myself the following challenge: after u stand 1 time in tree on ur left leg and 1 time on ur right leg the dishes are finished. So I need to keep the mind on this challenge which means the monkey mind will be absent and i concentrate on deep full breaths and the little muscles around my ankle and in my feet who need that oxygen at once. Indeed doing the dishes suddenly turns out to be a meditative pleasant state of mind. Namaste my friend, great content u got!

I genuinely hate and resent cleaning because it's hard work that doesn't last. One to two days later, it needs to be done again, especially the kitchen and bathroom. The solution for me is putting on a TH-cam video and cleaning while listening. It makes the time pass faster and takes the focus off the hard work of cleaning behind the toilet. Cleaning isn't so bad when my mind is enjoying something else while doing it. I always love end result of cleaning, brief as it is.

100% right. It's also most satisfying to me to clean. I enjoy every step and proceed with the in the right manner depending what I'm cleaning. I wash the dishes, etc. right after I'm finished eating and place them in their right places. Another thing that's important- making your bed first is a good practice. Discipline and good sanitary habits in a timely manner are also good in many ways and help one live independently longer.

Cleaning with music, makes the task easier and enjoyable. lroning or sewing by hand, is a another way I relax. You are correct about clutter, if I do not correct it, I know I will continue to pile more stuff on top. I normally hang up my pants, if there's another pair folded on the chair, I will fold the pants and put it on top of the one on the chair. Clutter creates room for more clutter.

Brilliant and true. We're a family of 5 who dine IN and I'm the dishwasher. It took me adapting to the amount of work this entails. But what made it click finally was when i started practicing "mindfulness" which for me is more like mindlessness...I intentionally let my mind and all its contents slip sideways as I wash the giant piles of dishes each day. I hardly notice the time go by. My head feels clearer and lighter. In the end my kitchen is clean. It's beautiful. ...I still wouldn't say no to a dishwashing MACHINE. 😊

I've fallen in love w/ this channel & it's creator. I'd like to add an idea here, though, because it feels important. We humans seem to get cause & effect mixed up quite often. In my experience, the depression usually comes first, then the house gets messy (of course the solution is the same, no matter the cause - cleaning IS very calming & healing). People make this same mistake when talking about the connection between poverty & addiction. I spent 2 decades living in deep poverty, among others who were living in deep poverty. It's much, much more common for people to "fall into" poverty, spend yrs trying to get out, then eventually run out of hope. They give up on true "escape" & begin desperately seeking ANY form of escape, even if it's temporary, even if it makes things worse. Yes, some people (like me) get through it w/out turning to drugs, & yes, some people are poor only because they spend all their money on drugs - these are both exceptions from the norm. I know that giving people security, REAL choices, & REAL opportunities to improve their lives works because I watched it happen. The area I lived in had no jobs that paid a living wage, no public transportation to nearby towns that had jobs & education - an area that went from prosperous to depressed too quickly for people to move on before they got trapped. I watched people who'd been raging alcoholics &/or drug addicts for their whole adult lives finally able to get sober because they could finally see a way out - they finally had hope AND SUPPORT. I'd love to get into all the details, but it would take awhile.

I find cleaning therapeutic, I just got done cleaning infact. There have been times where I have just started cleaning unconsciously and half way through I notice that I’ve gotten up to clean and usually these times are when I am going through something and my emotional state isn’t too good. I do this thing where when I’m wiping counters down or sweeping/mopping the floor I envision all my negativity getting wiped, swept and mopped away. I put my negative thoughts and emotions into the physical act of cleaning and imagine my microfiber cloth catching all the negative dust, so to speak. So cleaning is pretty much meditation to me in a weird way. But then of course I still take my time out when I meditate to just focus on my breath and bring myself to the present moment.
I’d like to mention an app that I use that reminds me to do things I’m trying to build into a habit. It’s called productive. I highly recommend it for anyone trying to build new habits or break old ones. It’s amazing when you look at a check list of daily deeds done and how proud you can be of yourself before bedtime and have this great feeling of accomplishment.
This is a great video. Keep me coming. All my love and good energy to everyone reading this. Xo.

Cleaning your living area is a form of interaction. It is personal. It is relationship. You know where things are and their arrangement to your preference. We feel safe, comfortable, relaxed in our own area because we "know it". Think about when you are taking a bath/shower, you have intimate knowledge of your body, scrapes, cuts, hair texture, etc. And you'll notice anything out of the ordinary. Ever notice that your car seems to be running better after you give it a good cleaning and wash? Cleaning is an expression of personal relationship. I find cleaning to be therapeutic, as well. ;-/

  • @MoPoppins
    @MoPoppins 4 ปีที่แล้ว

My mom was never very diligent about housework, and when she did it, it was half-assed. Everything in the house eventually would become dingy, dirty, and worn. I’m wired differently than she, and like to prevent problems, repair broken things, and clean more thoroughly. I don’t clean well enough to pass the white glove test, but most visible dust and dirt are eliminated, and I always feel happy & refreshed, afterwards.
I think that many of us inherit our cleaning habits from whatever we’ve been raised with, and for me, that was woefully inadequate. A thick blanket of dust that I only noticed, once I started sneezing constantly, is poor maintenance.
You know what was a game-changer for me? MICROFIBER CLOTHS. I started reading about them from the Apartment Therapy blog, and eventually bought a pack. One reason I used to dread cleaning was because I knew that it’d take me even LONGER afterwards to clean out the cotton cleaning rag. That’s no longer an issue with microfiber cloths. I do use cotton or natural fiber cloths when I want absorbency, though, more as a finisher/polisher, than a cleaner.
The tip I’d recommend to anyone who dreads the thought of ALL that dirt and grime that needs cleaning, is to do it in short bites of time. Just 5 - 15 min. Or the time it takes to heat up your food or wait for some other timer to go off. Don’t obligate yourself to do more than you can complete during this countdown, BUT if you’ve gained momentum and are inspired to continue, then do so.
Also, MAINTAIN the cleanliness, because then there’ll be no scrubbing involved...only wiping.
If you like music and/or podcasts, listen to them while you clean. You might even end up EXTENDING your cleaning time, so you can finish listening to that song or podcast. Happens to me all the time!
The energy of a space feels completely different, once cleaned. And it makes a difference if YOU do it yourself. It really does function as a moving meditation, and it’s really great for PROBLEM-SOLVING. Keep your smartphone, paper & pen, or whatever else you use to record your thoughts, nearby, so when the ideas start downloading into your brain, you’re ready for them.
Remember, short bursts. You could tell yourself that you only need to complete ONE task, or if you have a cleaning rag, only clean until the rag gets dirty or for 5 - 10 min.
What might end up happening is that you enjoy the cleanliness SO much that you no longer dread it (esp. if you’ve been doing it more often, so nothing ever gets filthy anymore). I’m not endorsing substance use, but if you do drink, see if you don’t mind cleaning, once a bit buzzed. 🥴 It’s like a mild anesthetic, and whatever resistance you had, simply dissolves away.

What’s important is not the end ressult, but the prosess of cleaning. When this mindset is implemented, then the ressult will come naturaly and have a sublime estetic to it.
Living is a prosess. Where we produce food, prepare the food, eat the food, then clean the dishes. A person who lives in delusion/depression often think in magical terms like « if life where just like the part when i eat my burger». In reality this thinking is alot of the reason of the depression. Because there is a sence of meaning in all the parts of the process. Beeing aware of this is the practise of mindfulness. The art of Zen

Question is: What was first? The messy room or the depression? Because usually it's the case that depressed people don't have the energy anymore to clean up their houses... the untidy room is already one of the many consequence of depression. But I agree on that, that it's generally helpful to start cleaning your room - even in tiny steps - so things in life get better instead of getting worse.

This is true; I have a small package of dishwasher soap in case a visitor helps with the dishes. I've had it for 5 years, and it's unopened, because I have never used the dishwasher in the last 3 apartments I've lived in. I like cleaning, and I know by now not to tell anyone. You can see why in the previous comment.

Ditto! I used to have a dishwasher and was constantly washing the dishes before putting them in! lol

I didnt do my walk this morning. As I stood doing the dishes, the thought came to mind, "Cleaning is my meditation." Then I go to put on a video to clean to and this was on top. So good.

This is some of the most valuable information one can receive. I have lived this for years and when my house gets messy, I feel 'agitated' and am aware that things are 'off kilter'. Thanks for your great site!
