  • Heading from my home in New Hampshire to the International Motorcycle Show In Minneapolis Minnesota, I take a side trip to visit the Aerostich factory in Duluth. Yes, I realize it is January! Like share follow or get out of the way! I'm chasing the cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

    You remind me another Paul (Paul Mondor “Iceman”). He is one of my inspiration for traveling in winter. You never feel more alive than when you ride in winter! I did a Saint Louis to Buffalo round trip early March 2009, temp never went above 28, from Cleveland I avoided the highway because of insane winds, went try the lake shore road, so beautiful. I’ll do it again.

    Paul, you sure don't need a battery tender for the winter :-) Very impressing to see you travel in any condition, ride safe !

    This is why I subscribed to “Air Safety Institute” channel, on a bike, awareness of the weather takes a whole new meaning! NEXRAD mandatory.

    Keep that bike upright up here in the north Paul! The roads are not very conducive for bike riding. Be safe Bud!

    Saw your "filthy dirty bike" in CLE., last weekend. You were busy with a group. I'm liking the Venture more and more. I put 94K on my 83 Royale, 78K on my 79 XS 11' and 48k on my 78 XS 750. Ride safe Paul.

    You may not be a smart man, but you've got my respect. I lived up north for the first half of my life and was stationed in North Dakota for a while in the USAF, I know what cold is! I ride all year long, but I live on the Gulf Coast now; much different. I still get concerned about black ice this time of year though. You're much braver/dumber than I am! Peace and love.
    BTW, when you get to the IMS, some cleaning product salesperson would have a great opportunity to demonstrate the quality of their product if the snagged your bike to do a half-n-half demonstration!

    Have an awesome fun time Paul! I envy you and your riding out in the winter, I try and get out as much as I can. Don’t talk about an adventure, live it! And you do that, have a great ride!

    Watching this reminds me why I still live in SoCal. Friends at work think I'm crazy when I ride in at 35 or 40 degrees, but that's as bad as it gets, and only a few days a year at that. But I can ride almost every day of the year without having to worry about the weather. I can't imagine how you do what you do, riding in the conditions that you ride in, all year long! I'm not sure how to 'winterize' a bike, but in your case it means throwing on a couple extra layers of gear! Sorry I missed you at the Long Beach show in November, hopefully I'll catch you next year. Please be safe!

    Impressive! I once did 5 hours below 32 degrees and was fine...more-or-less. My feet got cold. I know the limits of my gear now though. Hope to see you Saturday. Safe travels!

    Burrrr! That looks cold. Paul, my next bike will be a full dress touring bike. I’ve owned a Gold Wing before and now an ST 1300. The Star Venture is intriguing! Looks very comfortable. But I’ve never road one. Any “non-published” insight on the bike?

    • @longhaulpaul

      Lonnie Stephens test ride it. It sells itself. I'll be doing the 100k write up very soon.

      Thanks....I live in a small town in south central Mississippi, test riding bikes is not that common here since 90% of the market is off road equipment. “Mudd’n” and getting bit by snakes seems to be the National last time of the local Motorsport’s community. Sounds horrible, I know! But it’s the simple pleasures in life that make it enjoyable. Thanks Paul!!

    People around here think I’m crazy when I ride at 40 degrees. LOL I have ridden a little in temps below freezing, but usually no more than 45 minutes or so.

    I haven't heard you mention what kind of gloves you wear. I ride year round in Indiana and my Gerbings are wearing thin. Looking for recommendations. Thanks.

    You need a sidecar to seriously tackle ice and snow.

    • @longhaulpaul
      @longhaulpaul  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plan is not to ride in the ice and snow! Carrying studs and a powerdriver.

    Hey Paul, met and talked to you at the past two Cleveland bike shows (this year sucked), bought your t-shirts and wear your wristband. I do a lot of winter riding... But I got to ask, do you use heated socks? I usually wear good boots and a plastic bag over my socks block the wind very well. What do you do?

    • @longhaulpaul
      @longhaulpaul  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manny B
      I wear the heated socks when temps go below 30 (all day) and just recently got a set of heated insoles. The socks torment my toes after a few hours, and the insoles have proven themselves so far down to 20° all day.

    Aren’t you concerned about road salt and what it dose to metal and aluminum!
    Even on dry sunny days in winter there’s still salt dust on the roads.
    Do you take your bike to a quarter car wash and rinse it down real good?

    • @longhaulpaul
      @longhaulpaul  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Michael Schmitzerle
      If I washed it every time I had a chance, it would be just as salty 12 hours later. I Ride every day through the winter. I've been home 5 days since last year. I'm not wasting those precious hours cleaning something only for it to immediately get just as filthy the first three hours the very next day.
      My 'new' bike has 96,000 miles on it already, so worrying about longevity or resale value is pointless. If I only took a salty ride once a month, might be smart to wash it in between, but, this is my everyday cross country transportation.
      Sort of like, if you knew you needed to drive your Camry 1000 miles tomorrow through the snowy rainy northeast, would you spend three hours detailing it today?

      Longhaulpaul , interesting. I reckon it’s what makes the world go around.
      I’m just the opposite. Even when I go on long road trips in the summer, which are 8,10 or 12 hours a day, when I stop for the day at either a camp site and occasional motel, I just have to clean up my bike and cove it for the night.
      I love that my steed looks near perfect when I uncover it and head out in the morning.
      Different strokes... I Enjoy your vlog.
      Be safe my friend💙
