Great Video! I just changed mine yesterday. These EGR valves can cause the code P0108 (Manifold Absolute Pressure Circut high) and p0406 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High). I had this check engine light for the longest and read a bunch of forums. In the end, I changed the EGR valve and cleared the code with an OBD 2 reader and the check engine light never came back. I hope this helps anyone out there with the same issue. I didn't have any symptoms of a bad EGR valve because normally that would mean a bad idle below 30 MPH and bad gas mileage too. but even though the car works perfectly fine these EGR valves have been a problem for the 05-09 mustangs.
Just replaced my EGR valve and a few days later and it gave a CEL with a P0401 code. I’m hoping I didn’t get a defective EGR Valve, I erased the code with a obd2 reader and hoping it doesn’t come up again. Though the cel does flash a few times when car is on position with ignition turned off, so hopefully that means nothing. If does come back, I’ll have to put back the old one and see how it goes or maybe get another new one since the part I bought came with a 1 year warranty. Reason for EGR valve replacement was the old EGR valve was giving an annoying high pitched screeching sound. New EGR valve fixed that.
Good video, much appreciated. Just a suggestion, if you’re going to remove that oil filler cap and work around it, put tape over it or clean rag into it, you don’t want to accidentally drop a bolt or something down there. Just my $.02.
I availed myself of the free code read at O'Reilly's and got a P0406 code on my 2005 Mustang. I followed your video to change the EGR valve myself. Now I can get an inspection sticker. Thank-you very much for making this video.
EXCELLENT! I had the two bolts loosened, and wasn't sure about the 27mm tube bolt, as I actually had a master mechanic, retired, who told me to loosen the 27mm in the opposite direction, which did not make sense to me....(His direction actually would tighten it) Very often I can not find a good video for my needs for the 2007 mustang. Clearly, I can make out the correct direction, and I also had no idea about leaving the old nuts in place. Thanks for such a clear cut video! take care, Elizabeth
So I bought an obd2 reader. I got 2 codes. P0108 and P0406. I bought it because my 2009 mustang on the previous day when I accelerated at the light I had no acceleration. No acceleration in drive or in reverse. I had to drive it home on 3rd gear. I had to put in coolant into the car before driving it home. Today the car seemed fine as I drove it around the block. Do you think if I replace this valve myself it should solve my problem. Or bigger issue?
Thank you - this video looks fairly straight forward, I am going to be replacing mine today or tomorrow. Two quick questions - I was told by Autozone that I needed to replace the "pigtail" as well, I don't see that you did that. Is that necessary? I also didn't see the gasket set up, you had two gaskets lying there, I'm assuming one was the old one and it doesn't need two gaskets? Sorry for dumb/obvious questions - learning this as I go. Thank you.
You probably don't need to replace the pigtail connection, we didn't on ours. The part does come with a new gasket, I would suggest putting the new one on. It only needs one gasket. Hope this helps!
@@MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC Thank you, replaced it today and didn't need the pigtail after all so will be returning that. It was easy once I watched the video and doing it step by step - Still has check engine light on, but will take to Autozone today to (hopefully) clear it. Thanks!

That code is usually caused by the Mass Airflow Sensor. It is located near the air filter. The sensor gets dirty and doesn’t regulate the gas/air mix. I would buy a new Mass Airflow Sensor and also change the engine air filter.

2010 Mustang 4.0 that triggered P401 code so I replaced the EGR, car still idles tough at random and shuts off. What else could throw the code if EGR was replaced?
The 2010 Mustangs are notorious for the Throttle Body going bad. The result is what you described. Or It could be the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor. Either of those can make the car shut off. My guess is the throttle body.
@@MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC So far switched the TPS and gave the throttle body a cleaning by removing it. Read Older rounded TPS were the worst so replaced with newer rectangular TPS.

The MAP sensor (P0108) can cause the vehicle to not start. The EGR is more for fuel economy, acceleration, knocking, etc. With both codes, it’s a good estimation that is your problem with starting. Replacing the EGR/MAP is a good place to start.
@MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC I replaced the map sensor. Still no start. I brought my car to the shop last week because of no start. They replaced crank position and maf sensor and I drove it home Monday. On Wednesday it doesn't start.
