    Ek train hai sangam express. Wo aligarh junction se diesel engine se jud jatti hai aur dehradoon tak jati hai. Tab wo link express jahi jati hai. Ham ye sochte the ki deisel engin kamzor hota hai isliye ab ye train kam speed me chalegi magar ek baar hamko lag raha tha ki ye deisel engine jyada paowerful hai. kyuki teain pahle se jyada spedd me chalne lagi thi.

    I feel all the Railway locomotives should be of Diesel we don't really need Electric Locomotives as there is not really much of a power difference and the same Electricity which is used to run Electric Locomotives should be supplied in Rural Areas of our country because the Rural areas of our country have a lot of Electricity shortage as the people who live/reside there have to suffer from short to long hours of Powercuts/Loadshedding even in today's 21st century. Govt should understand as like Petrol, Diesel and LPG Electricity is also a essential commodity for a Human Being. It is High Time Government should understand and realise the fact that even in today's 21st century people who Live/Reside in Rural areas are unable to get 24hrs Electricity to run their Household and Commerce. As like the Urban Areas even Rural Areas have a right to 24hrs Uninterrupted Electricity as most of our country's area is Rural.

      If there are Diesel Locos still the railway fares won't increase so much and how much more expensive oil can get people still use cars, buses, trucks which eventually run on oil cost of LPG cylinders goes up do then people stop using LPG for households the rural areas of our country are facing accute shortage of electricity the same electricity which is used to run locos can be used to solve electricity problem in rural areas household and commerce.

      Bhai why don't you use the diesel generators in the rural areas rather than electricity. This will solve your doubt on diesel vs electricity.

      Boss Generator can give temporary relief it cannot go 24 by 7 that is not solution to electricity problem even rural areas should get 24hrs electricity unlike cities it is basic need of every human being.

      Bro for your kind information rajdhani, shatabdi jesi trains m heavy generator rakhe jaate hai jis se unke wheel ki pakad track per high hoti h then vo tez chalte h vrna unke andar wheel slip ho skta h but power full locomotive diesel hi hai . Diesel ko border area m use kiya jata h and diesel locomotive have a quality of run 180 approx on track but it majority used to pull luggage.
      Good point i agree with u but in trains system different physics work and I am also locomotive iit bhu engineer and experience of 3+ YEAR.

    Power loss is more in Diesel loco due to power converson from mechanical engine to Electrical power to motor.That is why it is call Diesel Electric locos.Maint is too high and complicated due lot of moving parts in Diesel Engine.

After obtaining engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur I got opportunity join CLW and retired from the post of chief Production Engineer. Your description on Locomotive should be informative with basic information that 25000 Volt AC (from OHE) feeds the Electric Loco and Diesel Loco itself generates power for its required operations.

    This is a big mistake , electric locos ar not lighter so much , the real thing which comes into play here is----the power output of electric locos are 4850 hp-6350 hp/9000 hp/12000 hp but weighing from 112.8 ton-123 ton/130 ton ( most of the cases , not for all ) , so the POWER-WEIGHT ratio is unbalanced ,,,,,,, on the other hand diesel locos have power output 3100hp--4500hp/5000 hp/5500hp , and weighing 123 ton-135 ton ,,,, here the ratio is balanced ,,,,,, so wheel slip is a common case for electric locos but not for diesel locos
