Truly this is an underrated classic, and it's a pity that so few people even know of this band at all. On the other hand, one could say that this is a hidden gem; a kind of reward/musical enlightenment for those willing to wade past the atrocious muck that is forced upon us today by big name record companies looking for a quick $. I know I'm melodramatic, but not much I've heard in recent years makes me FEEL the way these older tunes do, which is precisely what music is supposed to do :)

This band is amazing. I have seen so many live shows of all types of music for years and years and seeing The Tea Party headline Edgefest 98 (or 99 maybe) in Van was one amazing show. Nothing can really touch it. This song in particular..it built up layer after layer into this immense wall of crystal clear sound and when I looked around me, 40,000 ppl were completely dumbfounded, slack jaw gawking. Unreal.

Love the use of many instruments. My grandpa just died a few days ago. Psychopomp is a guide to the afterlife (I'm not religious but I enjoy the stories). Of course psychopomp can be seen many things, grim reaper, an angel or many other spirits or figures. I guess it really depends on the religion or culture. The Tea Party write a lot of their songs based on historical events.

Makes sense. These guys have been infusing their music with Middle Eastern influences for over two decades, so I imagine that if a fusion of traditional Middle Eastern sound with an epic sound in the Western tradition is what you want, this is where you look!
Also, I just looked, and Stuart Chatwood (the guy) has actually composed music which has appeared on the soundtracks for 8 or 9 different Prince of Persia games. Dude is super talented.

I've always loved The Tea Party... temptation, Heaven's coming down... Being a Canadian, we listened to them on the radio all the time. Then, lo and behold, later in life I become a fan of a great band called Nevermore, and when I look at their new album "The Obsidian Conspiracy" they are covering The Tea Party's song Temptation as a bonus track. People... I have ALWAYS compared the two vocalists, who both have perfect pitch and similar tonal qualities. I am PUMPED.

Jeff Martin must be a fucking nightmare to record. The guys got such a huge dynamic range between his quiet and loud singing volumes, you'd need a *really* *really* good microphone to avoid it distoring like hell. Bowie was like that too, really hard to record For heroes they used *5* different mics at different distances, so that when he'd get louder and the mic would distort, they'd cut to a further one, repeating the process as the song built up and his singing got more and more intense. Bowie was in fact so loud, he was able to sing without amplification at his early gigs and keep up in volume with the guitar amps. I kind of imagine Jeff Martins Louder passages might be a bit like that.
