- Here's how I upcycled a thrifted crocheted blanket into a cute sweater! I love the bell sleeves! The best part? I got the blanket for $1 at a garage sale.
I was nervous the crochet loops would completely unravel after cutting them, but confirmed that you CAN indeed cut and sew together crocheted material.

Supplies used:
Thrifted blanket
Baby Lock Ovation serger (with Extraordin Air threading)
My mom's vintage Viking Husqvarna 3610 sewing machine. She got it as a wedding gift in 1983 and it's so hardy!
Of course, thread, scissors, etc.
H/T to @marissazingg for the inspo!

Happy to hear! Let me know if you end up making it! Have a good weekend!
❤what a cool idea!
I have seen videos where people secure crochet stitches before they cut it. Looks like you just cut. I know you surged the edges together. Did anything unravel while you were surging or together. I don’t have a surger. What stitch could I use?
Thanks so much for watching! I thought about trying to secure the loops before cutting, but because the cuts were at an angle/irregular, it would've been a little complicated. I have used that technique (secure loops before cutting) when the cuts were straight across, like in this video: th-cam.com/video/ZuuuBZspn_U/w-d-xo.html.
I think a wide zig-zag stitch on a regular sewing machine would work too! You just might have some little spots you need to go over again if the first stitch still leaves a hole.
Another option could be to make a stitch first and THEN cut right next to it if you're worried about unraveling.
I was def worried about everything falling apart! But it surprisingly held together as long as I moved slowly and maneuvered carefully with a bit of pressure as I guided the material under the presser foot of the machine.
But I'll def treat this like a delicate when washing! Thanks again for watching! I'm pretty new to making youtube videos like this, so any question or interest is super appreciated! :)
