    Inflation!
35 years back when I left India, that 20K was a Maharaja salary. Petrol was then 8 Rs. I could take a whole family out for a satisfied dinner for 100 Rs.
Rupee has lost value and is continuing to lose at a fast rate.
Firstly, I feel the corruption should come down and everyone has to pay fair share of taxes (cinestars, cricketers, business men, realtors etc.,), get the money back from politicians who have taken away all the money from the current generation for their own generation.
Secondly, rupee needs to earn more respect which can happen only if we have better exports.
The situation in US is not great, locals would pick a job to pay their bills. Countries like Vietnam, Philipines are hungry for work.
If we ask for more, the danger of someone getting our bread is there.
Yes, I completely agree people need jobs for a decent living but don't throw away the Lakshmi that is coming into your hand.
Take the money, learn the skill, invest in yourselves, get certifications and FIRE that company!
May sound boring and irritating, you don't have to follow this!

Guys Cognizant isn't the only IT company... there are plenty of other ones which offer 4-5 LPA also. It always doesn't have to be an MNC, please consider joining startups or mid-sized companies as well after you graduate.
Consider other factors as well. As freshers, you won't have the same kind of responsibilities like experienced professionals who are married and have kids.. Don't get into commitments like home loan, car loans etc. early in your career.. 2.5 LPA isn't great, but it is better than being jobless, it also means you are working for a reputed firm from where you can easily switch after 2-3 years.
Think from every perspective before accepting or rejecting a job offer.
Competition is very stiff, if you get a 2.5 LPA job, don't blindly reject it, only to repent later..

Guys who spent money or time in learning software development will surey not get into this 2.5lpa package but get a better company. Most service sector hire in bulk and train people. Now say.. why a company need to spend heavy cost on training?
