Sin can open doors that can't be closed. Some of the repercussions of sin over time are lukewarmness, spiritual blindness, spiritual deafness, spiritual drunkedness, spiritual deception, spiritual darkness, demonic oppression or possession, perversion, addiction, idolotry, depression, emptiness, desperation, spiritual harlotry, apostasy, a hardened heart, a loss of conscience, depravity, and enmity with God.

Yes the war is between the spirit and the body. Once we pray daily and ask God to help us we will be renewed daily by obeying the holy spirit that now lives in us. We also have to train our body with the help from the holy spirit in order to avoid fulfilling the lust of the flesh. Whatever our fleshly struggles are we have to call them out to God and he will release us. Repentance is also necessary and should be done daily as we also sin by thoughts too. Hope this helps.
