  • Alex Albon has returned to the Formula 1 grid and everybody has opinion on the matter. Some reckon he deserves it, some reckon he's had his chance. Whatever the opinion, is this the right move for all parties involved? Can Alex Albon make the most of this opportunity...or will he drown again?

If there are things I have learned about the F1 community in my few years as a fan is that:
    1. F1 fans judge people too early (As in the case of Stroll, Latifi, Gasly)
    2. F1 fans forget too fast as in the case of (Checo's 9 years as an average driver and 1 impressive half year, Ricciardo's 2021 struggles, Vettel's 2020 struggles).
I have learned the importance of giving everyone a chance enough for them to build their career without filling your mouth with shit. And the importance of not making decisions based on emotions and recency bias, because then, you end up with an average driver in a front-running car.

Agreed. And maybe that is why Albon will be a good match for Williams because as a RB test/development driver he has more then averidge experience in setting up a race car. So he might be able to extract the best speed out of that new 2022 car in the shortest time possible.
That would boost the points score but also boost team motivation.
      Succes breeds succes.
Also, he doesn't seem to have an inflated obnoxious ego and he seems to be an amical guy to work with. Which is great for team dynamics.

I honestly feel like any driver who takes a stint in the #2 seat at RBR deserves a second chance at another team. That group just doesn't seem to want to focus on two drivers, it's like the only reason they have a second car is because it's required. I think with the lower pressure levels at Williams we might see what he's really capable of. If it doesn't work out, there's always a trip back to DTM where he's making a pretty good case for himself.

I think Redbull are desperate for a title and know that Max is the guy who's gonna give them one. So they are putting everything for that one title. imo, its easy for outsiders like us to just say that RB doesn't want to focus on 2 drivers. But logically speaking, they need both drivers to perform to win the WCC(and the WCC has prize money behind it, not the WDC). If anything, it just seem like the RB car is very hard to drive. Max's comments from last year saying that RB-16 is hard to drive seem to support that. I think RB definitely realises that the car is a huge obstacle for their second drivers who aren't racing monsters like Max, which is why Albon got a second chance outside of the main RB team much like Gasly did, it would also explain their choice of Perez. Having a senior driver who has a lot of experience to get the most out of a difficult car so that they can at least secure some points and not have 0 point finishes from the second car.

Perez said this season that he has to use Max's setups and when he decided to back to his setup he struggled to drive the car. It's not that Albon is straight up undeserving of the seat but I simply can't help but think that this is an extremely underwhelming driver lineup for a Williams team that is supposed to be on the up. They are losing their number 1 driver, a guy some think is a generational talent, and replace him with guy number 5 in the RB pecking order. That doesn't mean Albon will be bad, but on a grid where there seems to be less space for top talents than ever before it feels like they could have gotten someone better, like a Bottas or a Piastri out of F2.

Honestly, those two prima donnas are also bigots who sympathise with those who make such abusive comments on British drivers and those who are different from the rest. Albon finished 3rd in F2, close to Lando despite having a lot of bad luck. His pace in qualifying was the best in 2018 F2, better than george (until he turned full demon mode after summerbreak)
Yeah there are quite a lot of talented rookies, but they are not as experienced as Albon. Albon knows how to give feedback, Albon knows how to drive and understand a car and Albon is a nice guy, signing a rookie is a risk and Williams do not want it. I wish red bull gave him more time to get experience because 2020 could have gone differently and with more experience and confidence the 2 Hamilton-related incidents would not have had as much of an impact on him and who knows where he would be now.
