    What a struggle, exhausting just watching the little guy, but he made it in the end. Thanks!

    Wow edge of the seat and that stick needed to go. Beautiful birds and scenery. Thank you.

    I guess Osprey don't have the ability to understand that just a nudge would of made all the difference. They can design and build a nest like that but not a little push for the chick. Nature and wildlife still amazes me everyday

      Maybe they do and don’t care. Maybe they didn’t help so the chick can figure it out on their own. Who knows.

      I would say mostly everything they do is instinct. Build a nest, brood, feed chicks, defend, hunt. To help the chick it would first have to know that it's in a bad situation. Then it would also have to know how to help it.

    That stick was part of the young osprey's problem . Glad he, she got out from under the stick and then to be able to flip back over

    It was so fat it tipped over then couldn't flip over and right itself for awhile. Don't see the oldest chick flip like that often. You'd think that in all of those millions of years in their evolution that they would have developed the skill to help flip each other over when they're stuck on their back.

    • @kathrynhutchens5066
      @kathrynhutchens5066 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The parent closest to the chick just needed to give that chick a nudge to roll on over off its back (in a perfect world).

    Osprey parents are reluctant to use their beaks on their offspring, even if it is to help, because they are afraid they may injure their chick (which could easily lead to death). It could also lead to the chick being scared to take food from their beak which would be bad as well. What may be obvious to us humans is anything but for a different species.

    Animal world, specially birds, young birds needs help by themself, human beings, some are helped by the parent but some are not. Whoever helped themselves, saved with hard work. Good examples of life. Be strong and work hard for survival.

    Is it just me or do Ospreys seem a lot less intelligent than the other prey birds? Usually the parents flip them over fairly quickly, these two seem really clueless. They also seem to get attacked far more than all the others.

      Lizzy York he put the twig there so te baby has something to hold to get over with. They are smart birds.

      I saw that they were all working as a family to get it to flip over. First mom called dad. Dad came to the rescue. Dad gave the chick a branch for leverage. Mom kept encouraging with the wing flapping. Sibling begging the parents to help. Sibling tries to stand beside it so it can use it as leverage. That almost worked. Mom moved in closer. Sibling tries to remain closeness, even though it's throttled by the kicking. Dad finally moves right beside him. Upside down chick kicks against dad's leg and sibling and finally turns over. Did you notice mom's feathers standing on end on her back? Did you notice dad's gentle encouragement for the chick to keep trying? Ospreys are smart but gentle Raptors. They aren't built to fight. Though I've seen a few brave ones try to tackle an attacking GHO. Osprey's communication skills are impeccable. I've witnessed tender moments, combative moments, reprimanding moments. And their dedication to their young, especially the mom, is amazing.
