- I brought James on to talk about a statement he made in a recent video about the OSR being a rejection of modernity at least among certain segments of the OSR. That didn't really go anywhere as we were too busy talking about games, game design and other topics of mutual interest. When I got around to bringing up the subject the conversation flowed in a different direction and I went with the flow. Hope you enjoy the conversation we did have as much as I did.

That's a great interview. I hope james find a new public because he is a genuine editor and thats rare.
I really enjoyed this, thank you sharing. LotFP has become my favorite system and excited about those new releases.
Could really feel the time pressure there, but man I'd have enjoyed listening to you guys riff on game design and theory for another hour. But who knows, maybe we'll get that chance in few months.
It was late and I was about to turn into a pumpkin. We can chat at NTRPG con though!
right before the enlightenment? didn't it start with the renaissance?
Think there was a slight misunderstanding. The early modern period is sequentially right before the Enlightenment. If you are arguing that the roots of modernity are in the renaissance, I would actually argue the they are in the 14th century with the the late scholastic work of Scotus and Ockham (this is put forth by John Milbank among others). I am talking about the period we call the early modern (17th century), which is a period James often turns to in his games, I am not seeking a philosophical genesis of modernity.
@@grailcountry ever tried mordheim? I recommend it for playing with normies.
