I know you said you don't want to become a channel that does negative coverage, but that actually makes it more trustworthy and compelling when you do critique a game 😅
I've watched at least one episode on every game you've covered, and it's always clear you try to love the games you play
So when you can't love a game and tell us why, we take it seriously!
But I am glad there's at least one channel on TH-cam that sincerely tries to love every game they play! It's a great break from the deluge of negative reviews and commentary

Useless comment. People over-do every response they make online. Instead of saying something is mid, they go straight to... SHIT. PERIOD. "They should pay me to play this" "This game better be free to play" etc. etc. Just a bunch of smart people brought up to be overly disrespectful over the most basic of things.

I have dropped channels which have only provided good reviews because you soon realize you can't trust what they are saying when every game is good or great.
I have also dropped channels showing gameplay where they NEVER die and NEVER make mistakes... sorry don't trust those either.

Game is amazing, friends and me having a blast. No need for dedicated servers play in the game game when everyone isn't online.......awesome, finally someone did it. Insane world differences as you create new realms and progress (this video is 1 realms past tutorial........no where at all into the game. Jumping through a new portal is amazing, almost have mist riven vibes to see what is through. OMG the reading........yah its great too, but can't win the young crowd over on that one. Good grief so many things not covered, the multiple magics and enchantments, the fact that every crafting ingredient doesnt make the same thing, like you make leather from hide, but the hides of every creature give different bonues and produce different leathers, giving you insane amounts of control over the gear you craft as it gets more complex....
But yah.....its slow, wants you to read, explore slowly and carefully, take time to read and think about each crafting ingredient and plan ahead.........lol this game was made for late 90s-2010s gamers, luckily they all have more money so it'll do just fine.

At least the good thing is that you are showing us what the game has and what the game lacks, and honestly I do love how the game looks; The UI, the art style, the buildings, and the animals.
It's a good thing they are releasing it as early access and are listening to feedback, because I think there's a pretty sweet game here to be enjoyed in the future. I'll keep my eyes open and see what upgrades and tweaks they put in before release.

OK, I'm only in the first respite forest biome, playing on Easy, and the thing I take away from my first few hours is that this is what 7 Days to Die COULD have been (I know it's voxel but I mean the experience). Not sure what you guys are looking for in this kind of game. I've played Proj Zomboid, 7DtD, Vein, Prey...now maybe I've just missed the current darlings like Valheim but I'm thoroughly enjoying Nightingale. These games are always grindy since you need tons of resources in any crafting-intensive game. I haven't found combat problems. I don't want brutal combat, so there's that. I love complex crafting. SWG was my all-time favorite MMO for its resource/crafting system. So there's that. I love the colors and styles.
I agree that the interface is very funky and I don't like the close button so far upper right. If I open with Tab, I want to close with Tab, for example. I'd like the NPC interactions to be a bit less Skyrim static, but that's a minor consideration. What I dislike the most is losing connectivity almost every time I transverse a realm. And there ARE memory leaks, so logging out periodically to allow memory to clear is necessary. Their people should be working on that. I think it's a great start, and can only get better. But thank you for the vid and opinions.

Before you read this let me first say- I love Nightingale and I have over 50 hours since it entered early access. Now here's a little of my view from what I've played. The combat is very lacking right now, but it does have 1 or 2 cool systems like the spells and charms which charms can go on armor as well. That said combat is a very big part of this game and it is not the most satisfying mechanic right now for a few reasons. For crafting it is very simple there are the augments but those are very easily done once you learn about them as well, it's just an interesting step added to the crafting process. Next, a lot of people are disappointed in a few UI elements and while I never have any issues with UI in games I can at least understand why some feel not so great about it. The world, animal/enemy design, portal mechanic, and art are absolutely great, they have a solid foundation in this regard. The voice acting when it's there is awesome. Some insight behind the negativity for online only I can understand, unfortunately, because I have very expensive internet, and the best option in my city (fiber internet) but I still experience waves of rubber-banding despite that and have had connection issues a few times while I only play alone. This is everything that was noticed on release so that's why there's a weird discourse with the game, BUT the devs have made community posts about fixing every issue I mentioned (unfortunately no combat improvements mentioned yet) so the future looks bright for the game now. All that we can do now is wait for updates and once the full release comes the EA reviews will be put to the side and there will be more positivity. Sorry for my grammar or punctuation. I forgot to mention QoL but almost everyone is aware of basic things missing the devs said they'll get the QoL implemented as well so again the future is looking good.

Absolutely agree that Nightingale is not ready yet.
I also played in the beta testing and the stress test - that the placeholder icons were still present for early and commonly used items was my very first indicator that I wasn't going to be playing the game on release.
The emptiness of the worlds, the running for far too long between places needed to visit, no better transportation, hirable NPC cutting down trees and dropping them on my build repeatedly and not being able to stop that - hadn't changed and needs to.
Visually stunning. Beautiful. But so much is needed to be a full, functional game even for early access.
On the pages and pages of text - being a writer, I have to purposefully keep text in game short to encourage players to actually read the stuff they need to learn. Pages of backstory that just reminisce about what was before and doesn't lead the player to something - not necessary and gets skipped.
Hoping it gets so much better so I have another survival game option.

As a final note, I'm not sure what the conversations behind the scenes looked like with the developers, but in a time when it seems developers react to the idea their game is a mess by enforcement of review embargos and hoping they can trick enough people with flashy trailers. I'm happy to see a dev who's trying to do the right thing by both delaying their game to give themselves additional polish time, and allowing people to post their true thoughts.

With all the survival games that ppl play and love to this date, and the preferences on QOL features alone - any new survival game that comes out, needs to be prepared to go up against that. I stopped playing beta and took it off my wishlist. Returning to watch ppl play now as it's released, it's sad to see that it still seems clunky, colors to me just blend into one neutral looking color and are blah, oddly. Nothing vibrant. I dunno... I think developers relying too much on procedurally generated content is what's making all these games boring. No man's sky had some success with it even with a really rocky start and now everyone is trying to replicate it and failing. Starfield should've been a wakeup call that if you just plop down procedurally generated content as the main focus of a game, players will burn out on the copy pasted content all over the place. Inflexion should've focused on combat game play and hand crafted ebvironments while using AI to expedite a lot of the building instead of just having it do their job for them. I'm all for using innovative technologies in games but it's obviously lowering the quality of gaming as we move forward.

Hey man, everything you said was fair. I have been waiting for 2 years for this game. I also played the alphas and honestly, it is cool but it is definitely in Early Access. I will be playing it because I like the genre and i like the portal card system and contrary to you, i like having similar items of different qualities. Like you said, it means alot more inventory, but i like the fact that you can create things of different qualities based on what you have on hand. Do I feel this game compares to other Early Access games? No, look at Enshrouded. I think the game has potential so I am picking it up, somewhat like I did 10 years ago with some ugly looking, janky combat/movement game called 7 Days to Die. That one has turned out well. I am hoping Nightingale turns out half as good. Appreciate you transparency though and look forward to your next video!

Really appreciate the honest review - and not hiding it behind an absurdly excitable thumbnail too (like the handful of suggested videos off to the right). I've been hyped for this game since it was first previewed and have been patient so far, I can let it cook longer. You pointed out a lot of things that are red flags to me; hopefully in time, changes/fixes will come.
You may not want to think of yourself as an influencer, but your taste and opinions on survival games line up with mine and a lot of your viewers, so seeing you get early access to a game is exciting because it's kind of like indirectly getting it myself/ourselves. You ground through ark, icarus, palworld, modded and unmodded 7d2d, etc... you're used to working through a level of jank to find the fun in a game, so when you talk about feeling no excitement about jumping back into a game, it is very influential. I was going to stream it tonight going in blind, but I'm glad I gave in and watched this first - refunded before putting too many hours in and have enough time to change gears. Also, knowing that you are willing to give an honest non-positive review of a game instead of faking your enjoyment or ghosting us gives your opinion so much more credibility and influence even if it gets backlash from devs - so kudos to you for that.

100% Enshrouded is way more fun.
I played Nightingale for a couple of hours today, and it just felt clunky. It's absolutely gorgeous. I wanted to like it. But it just feels so clunky it breaks immersion. Especially the character movement and the fighting, and I felt like I spent most of my three hours going back-and-forth carrying resources to try to build my basic starter hut. And it was stuttering all over the place and super laggy because I guess their servers were busy. And then it crashed and I haven't been able to get back on because of network issues. But the whole time I was playing, trying to give it a fair shot, all I could I just kept thinking I just wanna go back and play more Enshrouded. Enshrouded is just more fun than this.

I was a tester too and have been expecting big backlash upon its release. What they promised, what they promoted, what they showed during "gameplay" videos set expectations that were simply not going to be met in the actual game. I agree entirely with everything you've touched on here and frankly you probably just saved a lot of your fans some buyer's regret.
Because to whatever extent games like Palworld and Enshrouded feel like games made by gamers for gamers, even in EA, Nightingale feels like it's creators just saw their first video game last week.

"it's not ready" is a thing people will always say about an early access. I for one think that nightingale is pretty darn good for a game coming out with unreal engine 5 and loads of very small bugs like umbrella clipping and incorrect animations turning on and off in third person for consumables. Third person btw is experimental. The thumbnail looks pretty negative in my eyes, maybe change it to "not ready but..." or something. It's dumb to say "it isn't ready" when it's "EARLY ACCESS" I swear the humans' brains have rot within their skulls...

I have spent the day in-game now and I have NO IDEA what planet this guy is from. Nothing he is bitching about is present. When I hit someone with a stone axe, the sheer weight of the impact is translated to the mob being struck by actual weight. Not just "24 HP damage" but he falls on one knee and is noticeably injured and stunned by the hit. The building is a snap with a great central repository system. And the graphs are absolutely madness. I've taken dozens of screenshots so far just because of how beautiful and truly breathtaking they are. Marking this channel as "whiney douchebag".

My experience with the game has been more similar to yours. I don't think he's being a "whiney douchebag" though. From watching his gameplay, to me it looks like his game is having some performance and stability issues. Games in early access can perform wildly different for different people until the game gets stabilized and polished.
I also noticed he seemed to totally miss some mechanics and functionality within the game. And in his defense, the game's menus can be pretty clunky and cluttered, so it's not surprising.
What I do think this shows is that the devs are going to be fighting an up hill battle with success if they don't streamline some things in the game. Right or wrong, a game on Steam has about two hours to hook someone, since most people aren't going to be willing to give it 6 hours(and exit the refund window), like he did in each of his attempts.
This video does not reflect my personal experience with the game at all, but I do believe it genuinely reflects his.

So first we didn’t know that we had to get through the tutorial to meet up. Ok no big deal but that third and final portal you have to go through glitched for my friend. So she beat the 2/3 waves of monsters waited and waited and waited and waited for it to open. NOTHING HAPPENED !!! Restart same thing. She tried 4 times on the same character nothing. She had to delete the first character and start all over again. And is anyone else having a problem splitting stacks? Not going into the fire or anything I mean going from your inventory to storage. I CAN’T SPLIT. Keep up the great work brother. Looking forward to your next idea for 7d2d. Let’s hope Derelict will be better than this release.

promise that this game gave in the trailers was downright mesmerizing, the people who were responsible for their direction, lighting, hats off to them, brilliant work. But then came the alpha test, and.... I can't remember the last time I was so disappointed with a game. Not because it was so bad, but because it was so perfectly bland, there was absolutely nothing left of the atmosphere of the trailers, the art director instead of being tempted by stylization decided to go for semirealism, which already looks...yes, perfectly bland, and in a year or two it will only be worse, on top of that the introduction to the game world is non existt. World building with walls of text worked in the 80s, not today. Worst of all, I completely fail to see how the developers were going to fix all this.
