Pls don't roast me for my dusty ass Musou games, it's what they deserve :<
I recorded this video a week or two ago, but FF7 Rebirth took over my life LOL.
I'm also sorry to anyone who might've thought I made this video bc Xenoblade Warriors was real ^^' Maybe it's just my bubble, but I've genuinely been seeing it discussed more often.

Did you ever play Persona 5 Strikers? Cause outside of that game, I agree with all of your fears, but Strikers was like, one of my favorite Persona stories. And also technically didn’t have an OC, at least any more than any Persona spin off does. If anything the new characters felt more involved than some spin off characters lol.

    (Xenoblade2/3 Spoiler)
for me the obvious option for an OC for a Xenoblade Musou if it releases before Xenoblade 4 is Mythra's kid.
Why before Xenoblade 4? Because to me if this character is not already planned to be showned in Xenoblade 4 either as the Main Character, as a long dead one that was of importance, or as a DLC Story character, then it's planned for a Musou. Either a canon Xenoblade 3 Musou, or a non-canon dumb crossover shit.
And it could also be both, so be the mc of a musou, and then also be featured in a flashback or in documents in Xenoblade 4. Like "oh yeah, Milton, son of Rex, second king of the United Kindom of Earth" or whatever. (yes, my bet is a boy named Milton for the sake of tears)

The only Musou crossover game I fully enjoyed was the original Hyrule Warriors, and it was because I wasn't expecting a Zelda quality story but rather a fun power fantasy with all my favourite characters. At the time I had just been introduced to Dynasty Warriors 8 by a friend. That friend and I sunk a lot of time into Dynasty Warriors 8 and Hyrule Warriors, and there was a time when we'd get together frequently just to play the latter. Ganondorf really is the Lu Bu of of Hyrule Warriors.

I have my own thoughts on this topic.
Back in 2018, the producer of the Musou series has expressed interest in a Xenoblade Musou which means that it's certainly on the list of IPs that could get a Warriors Treatment. While a Musou of the fanservicey aspects of Xenoblade would be fun... I would honestly love seeing a Musou that has a more canonical approach to the games such as taking place in the united world FR's ending has shown. It'd not only be a chance to see all the characters we've loved again, but also see how much these characters would have developed since their last appearances too. There's real room for that in a Musou that Xenoblade just wouldn't be able to explore since Monolith has concluded developing the Klaus trilogy. And ofc, there's a lot of people (me included) that just love how playing Musou feels.
Getting to play as our favorite characters with their core ideas translated through Musou gameplay just sounds like it develops itself. The one who'd benefit most from this would be Taion as he has the most unique fighting style in concept but his class was underwhelming in the context of XC3. The Mondo needs to be able to live up to the hype that the story shows it off in, and a Musou would be the best way to go by it.
There's just simply a lot of good ideas at the table for a Xenoblade Musou for it to not become an eventuality, and that's really a testament to just how fleshed out Xenoblade is as a relatively young Nintendo series

As someone who loved Age of Calamity I definitely want a Xenoblade Warriors. But the problem with AoC was that it was not canon and even then I would appreciate a Xenoblade Warriors but this would be the perfect opportunity to set the story between the end of Future Connected and the collision for example. A place where nothing really crazy happens but we still get to see a part of Xenoblade history that we would have never seen otherwise.

TBF on Xenoblade scaling in Future Redeemed, if referring to Matthew vs. N (stand-in for Noah), N might be more experienced in any possible strategy by the base game, but was easily more blindsided by a punch in FR. Maybe if we’re referring to Shulk and Rex vs. N, I think their case might be the aging they experienced, even if the aging was pre-Aionios to consider, which would affect their strength.

fun fact, when i saw a xenoblade ad on tv for the wii, it was the very first time I got hooked and an ad got me. and it got me HARD. except it was 2011, and I was a kid, so I didn't go on the internet to check what game it was, I only saw it once on tv and that's it. so Wen I successfully brought my parents to a video game store, I checked everything, looking for xenoblade, with only a vage image of gameplay against some armu (well, actually, it's armuidae 🤓)...
So i picked a game, but wasn't sure, and it was samurai warriors 3. So a Xenoblade Warriors would be going full circle for me 😂
Also, thank god my parents agreed to buy me another game when I told I picked the wrong one before, but this time I was sure it was xenoblade. with a box art that... powerful? it couldn't be anything else.

To be fair about Three Hopes, I'm still convinced that Byleth [in the version of the routes where Shez defeats them] would come back anyway.
    ^
KT may be refusing to make DLC for that particular spinoff, but Three _Houses_ has already convinced me that Byleth would just resurrect 5 years later due to his/her connection to Sothis (just like what happens during Houses' timeskip). At that point, a _hypothetical_ scenario could involve [playing as Byleth and getting your] ultimate revenge against Shez.

Also, it could be a good opportunity to shove in the extended prequel for N, but I don't really care if it has a canon story or not.
We had two non-canon crossovers happen before Future Redeemed, and guess what? I was still more hyped when it happened in canon, so anything they'd do in a Xenoblade Warriors game isn't gonna lessen the future of mainline for me one bit.

  • @angem.6717

In my opinion, you don't need to have experience on so many musou games to know if a musou game is gonna be cool or not.
I played 3-4 of them and I know what to expect from them since the 3rd one.
After all they are what they are, and a lot people who say they want a xenoblade musou, probably just want a musou experience with the xenoblade universe. Not something like a xenoblade 4.
And I don't agree with how you say the character writing and interactions would probably be handled.
We're talking about MonolithSoft after all. Its the type of studio that takes a lot of care of its franchise.
Following the way the studio has handled its franchise up to now, if Monolith (heavily implying Testuya Takahashi) thought a Xenoblade musou could not be done in the best way possible, they would probably not want it to exist at all.
On the other hand, if they see this as a good opportunity, the game would probably enjoy an enormous amount of care, mostly for the characters first.
I guess its quite apparent I trust monolith a lot, but in my eyes they've done plenty enough to earn it.
Along with the devs of musou games, I firmly believe they could cook something very fun and that would respect the source material
I hope I got your points correctly
In any case, wether that game comes out or not, Xenoblade continues its path and thats all that matters!

You brought up a lot of valid points about this concept. Everything you said makes sense in the grand scheme of things. Also, I too appreciate that base game Xenobade 3 did not lean too hard into fan service, and was able to stand on it's own, and only used fan service if it served the larger narrative. This is actually why ( and hot take incoming ) I didn't enjoy Future Redeemed as much because the fan service that was there ( mostly from Shulk and Rex ) felt kinda unnecessary to me.

Tbf, Shez is in many ways a better protagonist then Byleth.
Byleth‘s characterisation in Houses was held back by not being voiced. Hopes did prove, that this was a mistake, by having both Shez and Byleth fully voiced and both being elevated by this.
Also, Byleth kind of kicks your butt for most of the game before you are even able to take them down. Hopes showcases the Ashen Demon better than Houses ever did.
But back to your argument. I do think, the close links between the Xenoblade trilogy would make it harder for me to stomach a fully non canon spinoff.
Fire Emblem Warriors and Hyrule Warriors got away with it, as in both cases, the stories of their characters are most likely finished.
A Canon entry or a what if scenario like Hopes or AoC, I would be for, but only if there is some kind of story or scenario, that would be fit to be told as a Warriors game (and please be clear on which one of those two it is from the beginning, looking at you AoC). I think, that Hopes worked in part, because Houses was full of overambition, that it clearly wasn‘t fully able to explore with cut corners everywhere, (unexplored lands, off screen characters, reuse of plots between routes, etc) making a second try viable. I‘m not saying Hopes fully fulfilled this, either. It also feels like it ends too soon, with many questions, even new ones, unanswered.

Man I was listening to this while playing 3 Hopes and I agree so much. The Warriors games are basically junk food of japanese games and a large reason for that is that they really double down on shounen anime conventions of defeating hordes of enemies and dear GOD, the characters in the midst of battle do not stop talking and the fact that they cut and paste animations and objectives is just aggravating.
It's so telling that the best Warriors games are the ones that are the least like a Warriors Game. FE Warriors is only ok for me. Sue me but I just like playing as Camilla, Tharja and Lyn with proper hd models for obvious reasons. 3 Hopes is a bit better because they actually gave a proper story instead of an excuse plot and Shez Twins are a bit more tolerable than FE Warriors, though I will say that having their mom survive made them unique and I like that the FEW twins got a happier ending. However the gameplay of 3 Hopes that added some of the Garrech Mach elements and more customization was welcome.
So imagine that the best game of Warriors is P5 Strikers to the point where it's almost not even a warriors game. Seriously, it was like Atlus was whacking KT with a bat everytime KT tried to insert a Warriors-ism in the game. Instead, P5 Strikers is a proper story that is a proper sequel to P5. We have some social sim elements in between dungeon crawling and hell, the fact that it's a dungeon crawler for its levels with exploration and stealth to ambush enemies with incorporation of the P5 battle system of exploiting weaknesses is excellent. It really feels like P5 Strikers is a proper action game adaptation.
Thus, it's funny and sad that the best Warriors game is the least like a Warriors game.
And to be frank, I think 99 percent of the Xenoblade Warriors wishers have not played a warriors game. Shulk and Rex taking down hordes of enemies to capture map points for an excuse plot with annoying dialogue is not something I'd love. UNLESS they go full Strikers and revamp it with dungeon crawling and a spin on the combat of XC. Throw in playable T-elos and Brighid and I'm sold.
