    Great tips Hayley! So glad I have found your channel, we need more Aussie content rather than the usual US based "I walked the PCT" stuff. Thanks for posting and giving Aussie hikers something decent to watch!

    A dry bag pillow,. what a great idea. I never thought that there would be anything like that around.

      Yes its great. It’s lined with fleece on the inside so you flip it inside out when it’s night time. I used to use the little blow up pillow by sea to summit but I find this is comfier😊

    This video was the most helpful packing a backpack video I’ve found! I have several packs, but one in particular can hold the most accessories. I’ve been trying to find a way I can pack it for a combination of backpacking and fishing. Every time I’ve tried, the pack doesn’t sit right. But your idea of counter balancing makes so much sense I’m going to give it a try. And you are the only TH-camr that I’ve seen even mention the counter balancing with the heavy objects.

    Great video. Only big difference that I do is pack the tent last. Since it is the first thing I grab when I get to camp it’s nice to have it on top of all the other gear. I know some people strap it to the outside bottom of the pack as well but I prefer inside the pack. However I might strap it to the outside top of the pack if it was really soaked from rain so the rest of my stuff stays dry.

  • @vancey6072

    Your tent is at the bottom but it will be the first thing you need when reaching camp. I see many people doing this but never understood it. Get a pack where you can lash it to the outside/rear bottom. This also leaves more interior space for long food carries.

    • @settohike

      bladder buddies! 😂 I never had a plastic taste with the one I have. The brand is Platypus. But the other one you see in the video that my friend has was from Macpac and it had a major plastic taste!! So i'm guessing different brands getting them made differently. (Especially these two they seem like they are made from entirely different types of plastic, not that I know anything about plastic haha) And the tape is kinesiology tape 🙂

    May I ask how big and heavy your backpack is? You seem to be rather short so, when full, it must make up a comparatively big percentage of your body weight. I can imagine a subpar backpack to cause you issues somewhat early.

    I hate those sacks with straps people call 'ultralight packs'... You literally can't pack them efficiently no matter how hard you try. Due to the fact you are just loading shit on top of more shit, you can't see if you've got massive gaps between items that could have been filled, thus showcasing you could have used a smaller, better-fitting bag. My 55L Tasmanian Tiger Modular Trooper Pack fits more in it than those 60-70L ultralight packs, chiefly because it's a clamshell-opening pack which allows me to see EVERYTHING as I am still packing. I will never get sick of making ultralight wankers jealous of my shelter, sleep setup and cooking gear at every stop - shit, I even took a lightweight fishing rod on my most recent 300km trek through the Arctic Circle at the beginning of 2023 and cooked up some delicious freshwater fish. Approximately 99.9999% of these ultralighters can't hike outside of the nicest, most temperate/comfortable months of the year. The more I hike, the more I realise why most people who call themselves 'thru-hikers' can't follow me to the kinds of places I hike... Next stop is the Dasht-e Lut Desert in Iran.

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like you havent found your packing method.
      The bag used in the video is a 55L and is showing a basic 3-4-day setup, they do have a 70-10 for extended trips and a smaller bag for day hikes.
