There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

This was so enlightening. I always wondered how my grandparents, who were staunch Baptists and grew up during the Depression and solidified their adult faith in the 40s and early 50s, were deeply liberal based on their faith and the Bible while my parents, who came to adult faith in the late 70s and through the 80s, were staunch capitalists with "proof" from the Bible/Baptist theology. Just...what a gross manipulation of millions of people.
"Cultural capitalism" in a nutshell
To anyone who's not a psychopath, Christianity is as dead as the Republican Party. It's all about "f*ck you, I've got mine!" and those are exactly the kind of people who'd rather chop their hand off than give a starving person a sandwich.
its not hard to manipulate dumb sheep.
Bing Crosby: from being called 'America's first hip white guy' to performing in blackface. Damn, and you thought Krist Novolosec let you down.
I envy those who managed to experience the more authentic religion before capitalists got their claws in it. Either the church i was raised in was one of the first casualties or, probably more likely since it was basically a cult, was always shit. Which is a big reason why I'm no longer religious.
If Robert Evans had a time machine: no recorded genocides in all of history but the number one cause of death is the completely unexplained "phantom brickin".
The people who forever (further) ruined politics and Christianity in America had names and addresses.
Citizens at large should really be told just how meticulously crafted and curated the propaganda was that shaped American culture and religion.
By wealthy, influential individuals who wanted to mold culture to benefit them more.
Jesus I think I'm finally radicalized.
Learning that the 4th of July wasn't some wartime razzle dazzle morale play that Americans just decided to make into a national celebration, but instead a recent corporate conspiracy to make the public cheer for their own abuse, finally broke me.
This entire culture, and all its sentiment, is unsalvageable bullshit.
Welcome to the dark side. I recommend the hot chip.
Hey, at least you're not British. Now that's a nation and a culture that REALLY sucks...
I live in a place that uses their air raid sirens for common boring stuff like alerting the fire department, so I’m completely numb to it. But I cannot imagine the amount of fear I would experience hearing it for the first time ever, AND it’s synchronized with every church bell in the area going off. I would assume it’s the rapture tbh
The idea of the main character being the price of wheat makes me imagine it as a Chuck Tingle book (Pounded in the Butt by The Personification of the Price of Wheat During a Crisis of Overproduction)
Thank you for uploading this right when I finished part one. Y'all are real ones.
Upvoting for that intro, but I do want to say: I am also a fan of atonal shrieking.
I think the atonal shrieking is a particularly great representation of the subject matter.
26:48 "When we last left our actual episode" I don't know Robert, I think fuckbear is the actual episode now
"The hero's journey of...the price of wheat..." Goddam that was funny.
One of the many ways to tell Robert is from Texas is the way he says "Gawd" when doing a preacher voice
I love when Robert says "God", like he's summoning him to battle
Have you listened to him read "After the Revolution" ?
Lots of "Gaw-uh-d" in it. His preacher voice is so well tuned, he's getting ready for his cult.
I'm midway through listening to him read it and you're totally right
45:25 Baseball games in Japan (usually the high school tournament in Koshien Stadium and other stadia) still use the air raid siren to indicate beginning and end of game. Like, come up with a slapping anime tune or something, don't dilute the emergency siren, guys.
Sorry, that was offtopic. Go on.
I just finished part 1 a little bit ago, great timing dudes ❤
In Hawaii where I grew up they test the air raid sirens every 1st working day of the month. They make me feel nostalgic, I love me a good air raid siren.
0:44 Okay, I'm planting a flag in the ground; I am strongly pro-Macho Man Randy Savage, strongly anti-vaguely suggestive grunting. Now who's with me?!
the real randy savage is a bastard. very abusive and controlling in a psychotic way.
No, Who's on first!
Not me. I am pro Macho Man, but also pro-grunting.
55:05 "three boats sunk by a time traveler with a gatling gun"
Easy there O. Dio.
Another banger as always-
Quick correction, Skousen was not a Mormon elder, though it is true he had immense impact on an LDS apostle, Ezra Taft Benson, who later became the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so his earlier fixation on Skousen's work and the Birch Society creeped into the cultural worldview of Mormons in the United States.
Ugh.
I'm not sure what I love the most about the Mormons. Whether the most Godly will get their own planet to reign over in the afterlife, or the fact that they teach people, now, in modern times, that if they're brown or black skinned, that's an indication of the amount of "sin" in them and if they're good Mormons, God will bleach them out.
I do kind of want to play guess the cereal.
N.B.: "Ol' blue eyes" referred to Frank Sinatra. Bing Crosby was "der Bingle".
The bit about large groups chanting at the same time reminded me of the time I was traveling through Germany during the World Cup and there were flags hanging everywhere. There's just something about Germans rediscovering their patriotism that hasn't usually worked out well for the rest of Europe.
Whenever Robert says "Satan's Bushel" I start processing it as "Satan's Bush" which is........A Different Book.
TBH we already have Veteran's Day, so Memorial Day should be where we remember those died to protect our constitutional freedoms, like victims of school shootings and women who die in childbirth in red states.
Memorial Day is (was?) Armistice Day in Europe, it was created to commemorate the end of World War 1.
@@MMuraseofSandvich in the US Armistice Day is Veteran's Day.
As a former Mormon, can confirm, Skousen sucked
This is the kind of information that might get some folks to switch sides. They hate being controlled more than they hate specific policies or ideologies. Peel off some of the ones who might vote for Granny Boebert, et al.
In Ohio we call them tornado sirens because we get a lot more tornados than air raids. They are actively used for emergencies so I don't think I've ever heard them used for a celebration... Just for the monthly test on the first Wednesday at noon
Depressing subject matter aside, I like how they accidentally reinvented Kingdom Hearts. Granted, that version of Mickey Mouse has survivor's guilt and a gay human son
you say build a bear and i hear Bilderberg lol and was like whhhaaaat lol
Great episode. One note: dude with the *pipes* could take it down a notch
Mmmm. I love it when the two parter has the second episode right there while I have the BtB swing lubed up.
I already said it on the last episode, but I really love Dan and Jordan XD Jordan especially is so much fun!
Why did they fire nukes into Arizona and forced troops to match through it? Did not understand that part.
Such a good topic for an episode unfortunately spoiled by the guest that didn't contribute anything to the discussion, but nonetheless kept screaming and interrupting
Minnie Mouse: "Who the FUCK is LIZA?!?"
It all finally makes sense. But I had no idea it wasn’t ALWAYS this fucked. It… somehow makes it worse
"I didn't know Bing Crosby was a Nazi!"- Apparently he hasn't read any of Bing's kids biographies.
i also didn’t know that to be fair unless you were alive when bing was the hot shit i don’t think you’re likely to know ANYTHING about that guy other than his like 3 good regular songs and 2 good christmas songs, more likely only his christmas songs.
you just taught me he has kids
@@resident-evil-jerma5389 the long and short of it is at least one of his kids wrote a tell-all book about what a drunk, piece-of-shit abusive dad he was.
@@Wungolioth makes complete sense. i wouldn’t have been surprised about that before i knew he was a nazi because like almost every famous white male singer from the 1940s to 1960s was fucking vile. i wasn’t even surprised he was a nazi. i appreciate you commenting this so i can tell my grandma at christmas and make it real awkward (also for my general awareness it’s good to know these things and i’m absolutely reading those biographies)
going to be a bit awkward every time I hear White Christmas from now on 😅
@@casanovafunkenstein5090 sometimes i read something and wish i could time travel so i could’ve said it instead and reading this comment was one of those moments lol
I wish everyone knew this like jfc so much of my family is SO extremely Christian and SO pro-capitalism republican and SO AMERICAN 🇺🇸 🇺🇸🇺🇸🧨🎇🦅 that I think it would literally explode their heads to learn this information. Like I’m fairly certain they’d just straight up not believe it
Is Jordan a golden retriever?
thanks, it was such a good laugh
The screaming guest fake laughing at everything killed this for me
that one guy's screaming made the episode almost unlistenable
I couldn't last more than 20 minutes. I had to stop. Ep.1 was bad enough (and so many ads?!) But the screaming is almost nonstop here.
Please, stop yelling for every "joke." These guests made this set of episodes almost unable to be listened to-- constantly having to crash my volume to keep from being deafened has not been fun.
No hate for anyone but maybe it would be a good idea to make a side account for a script-only podcast for those who don’t want to hear guest banter and just want the story? Just a thought, I know Robert has had a few rare episodes of just him and his script, they have a different energy. Not better, just different.
High energy guests really help with depressing episodes.
Upload a Fuckabear workshop delete, so I can make every Christian I know listen to this without a convenient excuse for dismissing it.
The thing is, if their church started Fuckabear, then it would become OK, and even a duty for each member of the church to buy at least one of the things.
I’m surprised Sophie didn’t censor that bit.
It sounds like Robert has invited real-life cartoon characters as co-hosts for this one.
We need to change history so the only Bill Graham that ever had any influence is Superstar Billy Graham.
Somebody didn't listen to the Vince McMahon BTB Eps.
just want to comment in solidarity with the people who found this nearly unlistenable.
valuable information, horrible medium
someone edit out the guests and reupload please
they are annoying loud mouths...
Yes, can we get that?
Dutifully downvoting the Jordan haters
I have never seen such a "no fun allowed" comments section
Please don’t invite the Gilbert gottfried impersonator again.
Every time you have these guests, I have to end the podcast. They are completely insufferable.
glad im not the only one. wtf
The one guest - the really loud and obnoxious one - was SUCH a distraction, with his constant interruptions. Please, for the love of god, don't have him back. So ANNOYING.
This would be better without the dumb jokes and hyena cackling. Tighten up and inspire revolution!
Too much screaming. I can't listen to this.
I've asked this on part one but just in case :
Does anybody know what books or reading material Robert is drawing on for this episode?
I'd like to do some follow-up research.
Thanks.
I know he mentioned one of them in the first part because I wanted to read it myself, I’ll comment back here when I catch it on my second listen.
@@euthymialy - Thanks. I had a listen back to the first part again and found one of the books he mentioned. It's The New Prophets of Capital by
Nicole Aschoff.
