    The M41A Pulse Rifle is literally my favorite weapon from any piece of fiction.

    • @PumpkinHoard
      @PumpkinHoard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Literally THE weapon of my childhood. I wanted a toy of this so badly. There was an advert in the back of some comic for a very adult kit to build one, was like $300 in the 90s, and I was in the UK lol so no chance of ever getting one. i must have looked at that advert a thousand times over. As an adult, it's kinda tied with the Bolter from 40k, because those things are just so damned cool. But this fictional firearm will always have a special place in my heart.

      It inspired one of my favorites in sci-fi, the MA5 series from Halo.

      @@phoenixdk I had the "pleasure" of owning one of the airsoft kits that converted a TM M1A1 to the M41A1 .... but as cool at it looks, it is an absolutely horrible gun to handle: It is bulky, heavy and very tricky to use.

      The real M41A packed a hell of a punch. But it was also designed not to go through the outer hull of spacecraft, for obvious reasons. It was limited to inflict maximum damage to soft target, but could be equipped with hard target setting and munitiions.

      @@EricHamm As I said before, I'm not knocking the original prop by any means. You also have to consider how rushed it was to be put together, then the aging from 40+ years.
      I am well aware that modern manufacturing techniques are so much better than back then, but You really can't tell that it was cobbled together on film. I love practical effects more than cgi. I wished the original prop was better taken care of before it got to proper hands that could take care of it.
      As I also said, considering the condition of the prop, the real weight of it's value was it's actual history of being in 2 films.

    Fun Fact: According to my DVD commentary, Alexander Matthews, who played "MSG Apone", went ballistic on the cast and crew after several of them were caught playing around with the live fire guns like they were toys. The gun safety expert had said nothing while the shenanigans was going on, and Matthews, a former marine, was having NONE of it. Suffice it to say, they straightened up real quick after he had some choice words with the cast and crew about gun safety.

  • @MrLeeziebee
    @MrLeeziebee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    3:49 ah point of order here. I ran an armory for 12 years and worked on features. "LIVE FIRE" means unobstructed barrel and using rounds with projectiles (never on a film set except in rare occasions like in Moonraker where the stage crew shot a miniature satellite to bits wiith shotguns.)
    Blank fire means using blanks (no projectile) and the barrel must be gas restricted or else the semi auto/full auto mechanism in the firearm will not cycle.
    So What you have is a blank firing film firearm that has been decommissioned so it will never fire anything again. so any collector may purchase at auction without provisional firearms licences.

    I build film props for a living, it’s not uncommon to be literally asked to make something at a moments notice whilst you have a list of other things to make, case in point I was asked to sauce/make a futuristic stun gun at 9 o’clock the night before shooting at 8 am…. I stayed up most the night carving something out of a piece of old timber, finding parts about my workshop, spraying it, putting small blue leds on it, before roughing and making it look worn and used…. glad the director was so impressed with it next day he asked to keep it…. However iv also rushed unrequested stuff literally with 45 mins on set …. And the actor comment, “whats this piece of amateur shit”… you win some you loose some.
