this is why James is perfect of a Director and perfect for DC. he's a perfectionist director filmmaker and company CEO that knows exactly how to make a movie story plot and perfect connection with audience.
YES he is:) he tries to heighten all the components of a movie, music, costume, set design, even cgi effects, they say he's all humor but they are getting mixed up with the MCU humor that breaks every serious tone and Gunn humor which is based in the stupidity and absurdness of the characters' personality, gamora is the straight hardened warrior, star lord is a wonky reluctant hero that tries to impress her, drax is stupid but loving in his own way, and rocket masks his loneliness with his ego
I'm pretty sure I heard James Gunn say in an interview that he didn't agree with how the Russos portrayed Star Lord in infinity war, and specifically took issue with the "tantrum" scene.
Yeah i agree it did seem out of character for peter but I can still understand it because you lost another woman in your life and if you think about it has father killed his mother because of a selfish reasoning he knows if he stayed he never go back to his planet so he did what he had to do and Thanos even through he's an evil titan loves gamora but knows that to complete his goal had to give up something he loves near and dear to him and didn't hesitate so he did what he had to do. My point in saying this is those were two women peter love more than anything and both the men in those women life had the men who claim to love them did unspeakable things to complete a selfish goal that knew would mean that had to kill them. So if you think about it for peter, that's literal ptsd that he had to go through with that again the same way he lost his mother
He was also upset that they killed off Gamora without consulting him since GOTG was his project. He had to rewrite GOTG 3 after Infinity War due to them derailing the whole film.

People think we hate “woman super hero’s” but that’s not the case. The mcu just sucks at depicting them making them overally confident and have no flaws at all. Only other one besides in the guardians I see as a good character is Wanda she’s great because she’s flawed.
It has always been a manipulation. “The character is a woman, we flatter ourselves with her as a representation of strong women, they don't like her, so we can scold them that they don't like strong women”. And they won't happily talk that most of their characters are self-inserts or to flatter feminists.
James Gunn has been doing this since 2010 when he wrote and directed his indie-film Super. He once said in an interview that he chooses to focus on weird outsider characters for his films because he tends to feel like an outsider.
Recently, James Gunn brilliantly summed up something about Superman too, that he’s both the ultimate outsider and the ultimate insider. He’s an alien from another planet who never knew his homeworld and barely has anything from it, but he was raised on Earth as a human and has loved ones here on Earth. On the other hand, even though he’s a superhero and has friends as a hero and as a reporter, neither set of friends truly know him without knowing both of him. He has everything and nothing, he’s not alone but he’s lonely. So he’s not the same as Gunn’s previous main characters but has great depths that still relate to him and really of us in some way. The man truly gets and resonates with the character. Super hyped to see how he’ll translate all of that on screen.
which is also totally superman, the haters are really sad for what they say about Gunn's superman, you can clearly see how he was inspired by allstar superman, chris reeve superman, and the silver age superman, I know snyder didn't get a real proper chance but you can't start a universe with a movie as divisive and controversial as mos, no phase 1 film is argued about whether its faithful or good in it's quality
James Gunn is one of my favourite writers and directors in Hollywood along with Christopher Nolan. Gunn and Nolan never fail to disappoint me and literally almost every movie they make is a 10/10 but the best of the best are beyond 10. The worst they can do is give out like a 9 but almost every movie in my eyes they create are masterpiece after masterpiece. As someone who has been a huge marvel fan for a long time and not so much with Dc asides from Batman and superman, I have the gut feeling that James Gunn is already about to turn me into a huge dc fan and his dcu will become probably my top movie priority in theatres.
I love the way, James Gunn writes his characters! He made me like Rocket Raccoon so much! I never would've cared about an outer space Raccoon, if it weren't for James Gunn. Creature commandos Isa total masterpiece! His characters are Chef’s kiss! Can’t wait to see what he does next!

With James Gunn we should start to stop believing that just because an imbecile character is shown his tragedy or complexity he is being justified, I mean literally the ones justifying him are you, not the creator, I mean I don't justify villains but I do love their complexity, you may not be the appropriate audience for that type of characters, and if you think I'm exaggerating I better remind you that some idealized Jordan Berfort from The Wolf of Wall Street, the damn problem is that people are stupid sometimes... all to glorify shitty works... although of course there are also works that also justify or glorify, like Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss, there I see that the public deserves more respect in those cases.
The key point with the characters he makes us care about is that they are still compared to actual villains who are straight up evil. Guys like Thanos and the High Evolutionary are legit egomaniacs who slaughter innocent people for twisted goals. The Guardians on the other are not angels, but they definitely better people who just needed the chance to do the right thing. Most of the Creature Commandos are not bad people, despite certain circumstances putting them in that position (Doc Phos notwithstanding), but they are still capable of being good.
