I’ve watched a bunch of your posts. Everyone for several years. I almost skipped this one. No reason, just lazy. For some reason decided to watch it anyway. Really amazing work. Thought I’d seen it all but this application is super creative. And I remember the table. Loved the legs the first time and again now. Will tune in for the kitchen post. The crew is growing. Nice haircut.
Thank you for taking the time to watch this one! I think this is one of the coolest and most unique pieces we've done, it's even more impressive in person too! Thanks Scott!
Great video!!! Such a pleasure to watch professionals who take pride in their work. Looking forward to next week's video. Glad to catch a glimpse of Charlie. Thanks for providing us with quality content to watch and enjoy!!! Keep up the good work!!!
I absolutely love this fireplace show-piece. Somehow seeing the table again made me want one even more. You guys continue to exceed expectations. Bravo!
What a magnificent detail to add to that fire place and the light fitting above it accentuates the beauty! Now that table base (and the entire table) you made in 2020 - that is awesome! Dominos add strength - it is science. Maybe not in this application where the piece is static and secured, but if it is handled in any way, definitely. Can't wait for the kitchen install.
That is an awesome piece! You guys are the best at these big pieces. Thank you for sharing these projects as we all can see what can be done out there. Take care👍🏻
That is superb. What a great piece, it looks amazing in that setting. I could tell Brad was pleased to see it. Did all you Guys drive down to Tahoe with the all the tools and timber or fly. So do all your staff need to have passports for occasions such as this. You all do an amazing job and thank you for sharing. Cheers Michael.
Wow! Well done chaps (and any chicks involved) Noted that Charlie is now floor manager, that has to be on merit 😉 Did it hurt to cut that beautiful big piece?
Thank you! And yes, Charlie is the big boss! And it didn't only because we knew it would be turned into something really beautiful, so it was worth it!
Very beautiful art piece. Looking forward to the rest. Btw anyone claiming to be the inventor of the River table design would be more than likely over 70 yrs old. River tables were available back in the 80’s. Resin is nothing new. ❤
Soap and water is fine, but if they wanted to protect the finish more so they could use our Black Forest Soap to clean it: blackforestwood.com/collections/black-forest-finishes/products/black-forest-black-soap-250ml
Just wondering if you can have the same CAD/CAM style of final sanding with a sander/polisher that would run across all the wood planks width and lenth ... ?
The dominos will certainly add strength , but i think thats an irrelevant question. The question we should ask, is it necessary? I would guess the answer is...depends.
This was intense. Was the fireplace piece sent down by semi? Do the coatings you put on react to heat or extreme heat near the fireplace or in general? By the way, Welcome to America's Lake Tahoe. Do you get the client as involved as possible when you are fixing into place? Good luck on your next build. I'm looking forward to it.
Yes we sent it down by truck! This was far enough back from the flame that heat wouldn’t be an issue, it’s best to avoid heat with our coatings. Our clients don’t always get this involved but this client wanted to be right in there, it was awesome!
Have you ever thought of doing a table or a piece where you run electricity through the wood to create what looks like lightning marks? I think this could be a really cool idea with an electric blue epoxy.
Really interesting history behind "bastone" walnut, bred by Luther Burbank, grew faster than both parents, but bore fewer nuts than either. He named it "Paradox" scientific name "Juglans x paradox (J. hindsii x J. regia)".
I don't think the dominos would help against shearing forces any more than on an edge joint. But it seems it would make the miter joint stronger against torsion flexing. the 45 degree angle glue faces would be weak against a shearing, rotational force, but the dominos would keep that from popping loose, almost like a gusset.
i'm all about PL or liquid nail or whatever adhesive but there is no way i would trust an adhesive with that amount of weight that could literally kill someone if it failed. there has to be a better way to attach it, or use a couple screws and make black dowels like you'd make out of wood just with epoxy to fill the screw hole. 4 little quarter inch dowels aint gonna kill anyone to look at. nice looking piece otherwise.
The piece balances on its own without the adhesive, even before it was secured, it would take a considerable push to tip the piece over. The PL was just to hold everything in place!
@Black Forest Wood Co. ya but what I'm saying is what if some 3 year old pushes against it or whatever scenario. I'm not trying to bust your balls. I love the channel and all the content but I install heavy stuff in family type rooms for my job and sometimes we use adhesives and sometimes we don't if gravity is in our favor. But if gravity is not in our favor I always add fasteners since I know I wouldn't trust my kids under/above/near it. Once again. Not trying to bust the old balls but *personally* I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that you're only relying on a chemical bond and not a physical one.
@@TheEricj1337 U are 100% correct as if it was a slab of marble or even stone it would be mechanical tied into the fireplace. PL works great but I doubt it is related anywhere near the weight of that piece. Things happen and the liability there is insane and easily prevented. Just that block on top can kill someone at that height.
The PL 400 has a shear strength of 245psi, with the amount of adhesive applied over the full length of the piece, i cant even imagine a situation where it could fall over accidentally. I doubt you could get it to move even if you used a pry bar. And that doesnt even take into account that, as per the designs shown, it will be locked into place with a stone shelf that wraps around the whole fire place including the piece that they installed, which will act as a bracket/strap locking it in place.
Good video as always, although I must say, if you are going to ask a question, it is ridiculous to not allow us to hear the question answered and then to allow hints of the answer only? What a waste and brings the level of the video down.
This was engineered to be far enough away from the fireplace so that there would be no issues. It also depends on the epoxy, we have exterior doors using our resin that gets hours of direct sunlight everyday with no issues. Lower quality products may be more affected by heat!

who destroyed your hand?
At 9:52 they were talking about Greg Klassen, a guy who trademarked the use of the word river in making epoxy river tables
Hmm, never heard of the guy.
Who's excited to see part 2 of this? 😁
Can't wait to see how it all comes together
definitely do a test video on if the dominos improve the strength on a 45. A mythbusters episode!
Haha good idea, we'll have to do that in the future!
I've done cabinets that have 45° angles on the edges. It does, most certainly, add strength and stability especially if you want invisible joints.
Nice, good to know! Thank you 😄
Sheer size of this project was a challenge you guys conquered and a Job Well done to the BlackForest Wood Co. Team👌👌👏👏👏
Gorgeous! Ive never seen a design like that before, but its amazing. Your dad was right to make that block; I think it was definitely critical.
Thanks so much!
Yes, the block was a great idea for sure
I SAW PART 2 FIRST BEFORE THIS ONE. I'M STILL ENJOYING THIS. YOU ALL ARE AMAZING! YES!!!!!!

It’s good to see someone using an actual protective finish on these very expensive pieces!
Thank you! The finish is one of the most important parts on projects like these 👍
The colours in that wood are beautiful. Every time I looked at it I saw different colours and patterns in the grain.
I know, it's such a gorgeous piece of wood, I'm glad it gets to be displayed in a way that shows it off like it does standing up!
Unreal piece. One of the most unique pieces I've ever seen. Fantastic job. Can't wait for Ep 2.
Thanks so much, we're so happy with how it turned out!
See you on Friday for part 2!

We really appreciate that! Thanks so much Marcel, we would love to build a table for you 😄
Absolutely beautiful! I’ve never seen anything like it or the vertical fireplace either. As usual.. incredible job guys! I’m off to watch part 2 now.😊
Thanks so much, hope you enjoyed part 2 as well!
Such a lovely piece of wood, almost looks like a tree in the house. Great work!
Thank you Patrick!

WAY TO GO . And of course, hi to Charlie
Thank you so much Josie 😊
Amazing piece, great seeing such a large section of tree once again upright, almost as if it was growing out of the floor 👍
Agreed!
You just keep getting better and better!! That is an awesome piece of work. That long miter says lots for the workmanship you do.
Thanks so much Doug!

Wow mate, nice piece. The kitchen also looks like it’s legit.
Thank you, Andy!
Dominos always add strength.
Awesome video, would the heat from the fire cause issues with the fireplace and resin?
It's too far from the heat sourcw for it to be an issue
Beautiful
A nice piece of craftsmanship. What was the weight of the corner piece? Great job by the install team. Charlie will need a passport.
I’d say about 450-500 pounds!
Just amazing!

Wouldn't a miter edge have more surface area for the face grain glue up? This would definitely be worth a video test.
Do you or can you give some info on the fireplace, itself...
Thank you

11:15 That wall corner 🤫How about the wood, any damage?🤨
Haha no, it was so wrapped up in foam it didn't damage the wall either
@@BlackForestWoodCo it did tho? You can clearly see the dent
