    Pike content is absolutely my favorite content. They literally look like monsters and they fight like hell. We have them here in Ontario but the fact you get them in these tiny canals is wild to me.

    Brilliant footage mate. You ain't wrong about bad anglers. My dad was a full time hobbyist fisherman for his entire adult life, took me once but we only saw each other a few times until he got cancer, we probably doubled our total visits over the next couple of months before he died. Never got to teach me so now I have to, and I am shockingly bad 😂
    Went yesterday and was doing alright with the carp rod until I set the float rod up for my mate and he cast right in to a tree - lost that waggler. Then it got dark. I slipped down the bank going to cast it myself, poked a tree with the rod tip and again got it stuck in the tree. Line snapped and I managed to catch my waggler this time so thankfully no Christmas decoration left behind to ruin the view. Then cast as a gust hit and didn't account for it enough so lost my carp rig in another tree. Called it quits, thought I'd go somewhere with less trees and more light, kind of a win for everyone and everything involved 😅

    You're a legend when it comes to sight fishing on your local river, you make it look easy, love to see you tackle bigger waters your not familiar with. I've plenty of faith you'll succeed. Prove to everyone your an all round expert pike angler. I'm like yourself and stick to my local waters. Don't have as much patience when deadbaiting on lakes weather fishing from a boat or the bank but caught more 20s in bigger waters using a closed end feeder filled with chopped fish as a ledger with popped up deadbait. Love to see you try this method in any water

    • @simonspencer397
      @simonspencer397 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      TH-camrs only fish easy waters where it is literally like shooting fish in a barrel. It's much easier to keep the sponsors happy that way. I recon half the time they don't even enjoy the fishing, just the money and freebies that the views bring.
      Like you say, they should challenge themselves and go fish what subscribers say are hard waters. Lets see those skills in action in some real life situations. But I doubt anyone would watch 10 blank sessions in a row. And the sponsors certainly wouldn't like that. It would show that their new lure/bait/bit of tackle wasn't actually the magic solution it's made out to be, and that on the waters it has caught, you could probably catch with a safety pin on the end of a bit of string.

    • @agfishinginireland9182
      @agfishinginireland9182 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simonspencer397 I totally agree there's more of an science fishing bigger waters for specimen pike, alot of factors to take into consideration, water temperature, weather, natural food source and locating shoals in large waters in winter when they're all packed into a small area. It like finding a needle in a haystack compared to rivers where its easy to locate deep pools and slack water. Unfortunately I don't have the time to as much as I like to fish big waters so I have a quick cast down the canal or local river which I can't remember the last time I blanked. But I really enjoy watching people catching pike in all waters.

    I've been fishing at a certain lake in Canada for over 15 years, where I've mostly been catching Northern Pike and Walleye, but rarely bigger than about 4 or 5 pounds. The lakebed is medium to large rocks in some places, sandy in others, and thick with reeds and weeds in other places as well. It's a relatively shallow lake, maybe 14m to 15m at the deepest, with a mean depth of about 6.3m. Do you have any advice for where I should go and what bait and methods I should use to catch more fish and/or bigger fish? My family and I have caught a few large pikes, up to maybe 17lbs, though we usually release any fish we catch that are heavier than about 7lbs or 8lbs because the big fish are better for maintaining the population in the lake. My family caught a burbot there once when I wasn't there, and until then, I didn't know they were in that lake. I'm interested in catching one for myself if you have any advice for that as well in terms of where to look, what bait and methods to use, and time of year. Very interesting video, by the way.

  • @oculusangelicus8978
    @oculusangelicus8978 ปีที่แล้ว

    The biggest problem with Pike is that they taste like mud. Even the Pike caught in the very early spring, I cannot get into their flavor, so I always throw them back. I had caught a four footer back in 2002 and I thought I would give it a try again, and I ended up smoking it because it was too much like eating lake bottom, and even then it wasn't palatable, luckily I found someone who like it and gave them all six pounds of fillets. There's a lot of meat on a four foot Pike. If you want a good Lure to catch Pike on, get a Rapala rattle bait that has a black top, silver sides and a white belly, it doesn't matter if it is jointed or not, I've caught them on both, but they are simple when it comes to their bait. I keep using the same Rapala that is all scraped up and has tons of bite marks all over it and that means little to nothing to the Pike. They are lots of fun to catch, but I always throw them back. I'd rather eat Yellow Perch or Walleye. Trout are my Favorite, for fresh water species anyway. Does England have native Trout species? or are they introduced? I know of a number of countries that have trout ponds and they are not an endemic species, but trout are not a very hardy species of fish, they can be easily wiped out by species like Pike and Perch, so trout ponds are monitored for illegal introduction, since there are always people who think it's a good idea to introduce Perch into the same water and they end up killing the trout off. Just once want to catch the buggers that do that, they need to be put into jail for their crime! Millions of dollars go into Trout fisheries here, and so many ponds have been ruined by perch being illegally introduced, millions of dollars flushed down the drain because some idiot thinks it would be a good idea to have yellow perch in the pond as well! Sorry for the rant. cheers
