- Each helicopter is powered by three General Electric GE38 (T408) engines, producing 7,500 shaft HP each.
2/9/24, according to ADSB:
First helicopter: 169022 - IRHZ12
Second helicopter: 170002 - IRNHZ02
Third helicopter: 170006 - IRNHZ11 - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

These GE engines are an impressive bit of technology and quality. (Too bad GE home appliances aren't the same!!!!)
Those same engines are being evaluated by Boeing/GE/US Army for use on the CH-47.
I believe ge appliances are made in China using the name Haier
That’s because if there engines go it’s the government not a blender but totally agree
GE appliances are now made in China. I know I brought a refrigerator at home depot and the sales person swore it was made in the U.S. A year later I found the compressor was Chinese...
If you paid 23 million dollars for that washing machine, it woupd perform similarly, it would also kiss you goodnight. Lol
i flew with the old version, we were only a squad in the cargo area, those things perform like sportscars, you can feel the huge amount of power in every moment. Sure the pilot had his fun during that low lewel flight.
Absolutely love these helicopters
That tail rotor alone could lift an F150 off the ground ! 🛻
I was. mech on CH 53E’s Mag 29 they Are Amazing these 53K’s are Incredible!! OOH RAHH !! Semper Fi !!
C'est un sacré morceau !!!💪💪💪
Long live the King.
A força aérea brasileira ou a marinha deveriam ter um helicóptero deste se esse governo pensasse mais na segurança de nossa pátria!🇧🇷
One of these flew over my house here in NY at 100ft altitude and it shook the windows and my entire house. It was louder than 2 Blackhawks at the same altitude.
Those new 53s sure are a sight to see!!
I was amused to see the Commander aircraft in the lower left part of the shot turning up one of the engines as the second ship started to turn. With those three monsters stirring up turbulence on the transient ramp if I was parked out there I'd be inside praying that my airplane was securely tied down.
Very cool! Haven’t seen the mighty K in person
Professional BOOM Mic action, Awesome.
I couldn't pass these up after passing up the CH-53E cold starts. No settling for idles only this time around
Those belong to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 (HMH-461), the "IRONHORSE" squadron! I served with them from '78 to '80.
Those wee beasties sure are awesome - thanks for sharing this with us much appreciated
Awesome helicopters!
Recht herzlichen Dank für daß Teilen schöne Aufnahmen 🤗🤗🤝
this, yours is the first video i've seen on YT featuring the 53K variation since Sikorsky announced it's production, ALL the others coming to my feed were the previous model... and if I'm viewing EC 135s, Apaches, Tocanos, C-130s and such on YT i would think the CH-53K would have come to me sooner. Thanks for this vid.
Lost a friend years ago in a sea stallion. God rest you Pete
May God comfort you. My sincerest condolences.
Amazing they don’t crash more. I would hope the new birds have better reliability. Something like 250000moving parts in a D model IIRC. Sorry about your pal.
@@johnparrott4689250K moving parts? Holy smokes
yeah yeah
@@motorTranz yeah whatever...
MAGNIFIQUE CETTE HELICO !!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
That is a beautiful piece of kit.
BEAST!
To fully realize how massive these beasts are you should stand near one as it’s running, just an amazing experience.
They should have been named hurricanes because they will blow you to the ground when they land close to you from the rotor wash. A Ch-46/47 is just as bad.
They most certainly are. I have had the pleasure if seeing them being built and all stages of ground and flight operations. They have a very distinctive “Ground Growl” so to speak.
Awesome footage. Keep on going!
that´s one hell of a chopper - lovely and oldschool. Gonna miss them when the german military is going to retire their old girls
Such a pretty bird. The Marine Corps' White Whale. Doesn't have the same rugged look of the Super Stallions but makes up for it in the curves. Also it's scary how fast these helicopters can move when they need to.
3 T408's FTW!!
Amazing machines👌

Wow, even has Q tips
me starting my computer in the morning
big guys needs a while to wake up
53’s were my favorite to hop in, sheer power, Hueys are neat, but not as powerful
Best helicupter
America's strongest helicopter 💪
I'm always surprised at the power of these daunting machines.
I like the ch 53, so powerfull, wonderfull, France has not this, i’m so jealous 😢
Flew deltas. 2nd MAW 😊
Been on them many times in the Navy. Beasts. My favorite.
Bad ASS !!!
No attempt for IR supressor on the Exhausts?
If it doesn't have a hydraulic fluid leaking shut it down an step out.
Richard Gere sit in the Back an Hunts the Jackal.
And to think the tail rotor’s larger in diameter than the main rotor on a Little Bird.
You would think it would STALL cold start
🚁🚁🐴🐴
If the noise inside a CH-53K is anything like a CH-53E it would very loud inside the helicopter even with hearing protection. I remember the first time I time I was in a CH-53E and the noise was unbearable
I was filming this from 1,000ft away using hearing protection. I couldn't imagine being closer, in and around them for prolonged periods of time
Which engine has to be started first?
I don't know their protocol, but a previous commenter notes, "they start 3, then 1, run up to flight power, and then start 2"
Cómo manejar helicóptero
Is this McCord AFB?
This was taken at the Tri-Cities Airport in TN, a public airport
❤1,200rpm idel😮😮😮😮
That much smoke is not normal. Possibly a new engine burning off preservative.
A previous comment notes: "These engines burn kerosene. The white smoke is burning engine all. The labyrinth oil seals in the engine bearings are letting oil pass into the hot gases as the engine is starting. When the compressor air pressure builds up as the engine is accelerating the labyrinth seals do their thing and stop the oil from passing through, hence no more white smoke."
@@coldstartarchives I know what they burn, JP5. I deployed with CH53Es. Don't recall them smoking like that.
Probably because these are different engines, the E uses T64s, the K uses T408s
@@coldstartarchives I don't pretend to know but yes, different engines. I deployed for over eighteen months with the Es. I was flying 46s. We took 464 on two cruises. I was in HMM-164. The Gulf war cruise was aboard the Okinawa, an LPH. 53s on an LPH are an unnatural act for sure but we did it in those days. Thanks for posting.
Go Army!
These were the Marines, not Army!

Saw a video of this thing carrying an f35 whilst being refuelled by a KC-130.
Cold start?
After living in the northern parts of the U.S. and going outside when its -20 or -35 to start my car after it sat outside all night is what I call a cold start!
The title is a bit disingenuous, IMO.
I have built several models of this Helo and several hundred other armor/ aircraft and a few ships over the years and living in rural US. and the majority of ex military vehicles I see are trucks used in the logging trade.
That may be what you call a cold start, but a cold start simply refers to the temperature of the engine's fluids when it is started, not the outside air temperature
This is better then mi 26 ?
That's up to you to decide
So they Start 3, then 1, run up to flight power, and then start 2. Weird…
They start 4 first.
@@BigHarlowe4’s not one of the main engines.
@@FS2K4Pilot I know, it’s the APU. I was being a wiseass! 🤣🤣🤣
How does this cost more than an F-35?
A brilliant comment I found online says, "Find me a bird that looks like a helicopter. They stand in defiance to gods creation and as such require significant engineering to withstand their heresy"
What is the name of this air force base ?
This was taken at the Tri-Cities Airport in TN, a public airport
The tail code suggests these are from MCAS New River, NC. Nice trip for the K's.
@@skisalomon81 HMH-461 "IRONHORSE" squadron.
You hear them from about 3 miles away
How much fuel do those 3 engines suck per hour? I'd hate to be the one paying for the gas.
Per engine, General Electric estimates the "Specific fuel consumption: ~0.4 lb/hp-h". If I'm interpreting this correctly, it means each engine burns .4 pounds of fuel per horsepower, per hour. In other words (assuming my interpretation is correct), all three engines combined would burn 9,000 pounds of fuel per hour operating at the max HP of 7,500.
.4lbs * 7,500 hp = 3,000lbs per hour
3k lbs * 3 engines = 9,000 lbs per hour
If you're an American tax payer then you are ....
Seeing that white vapor come out of the exhaust tube when they start suggests that the fuel is not gas. I suspect it is kerosene but I am not absolutely sure.

@@coldstartarchives Jet fuel weighs roughly 6.6/lbs per gallon. So that works out to 1,363 gallons per hour total fuel burn at full power. The Lycoming IO-360 variant in my Zlin 242-L burns 16 GPH at full power and it's good for 200 HP. 😉
The size of each blade on the tail rotor is impressive.
Maintenance hog, expensive to buy and unnecessary and vulnerable to modern shoulder fired missiles.
Какой он страшный
я не понял одного, конструктор Сикорски, наш бывший соотечественник, создал вам дармоедам столько вертолетов!, а вы их поднять в воздух не можете?!!
😂 They fly just fine, I save the flight for pictures, not video
@@coldstartarchives да я понимаю)))) , великий конструктор, нам бы вместе все это решать, вот это мечта)

Funny enough
Sikorsky was Russian born
Indeed he was - Came to the US in 1919 and founded the Sikorsky Aero Engineering Corporation in 1923
Newsom (along with all the Idee Ots gullible enough to consider the EV's are clean) must hate these. Or maybe they're banned in Commiefornia. 😂😂😂
What a machine!
