I played HS hockey in Michigan in the late 70’s. Hockey was blowing up. We made it to the state championship and had maybe 3500 people in the stands. The level of play was very high. Today? They play in front of under 1000 at some lame rink in Plymouth. It’s sad. Minnesota teams play most of their season on lame rinks with no fans, but the state tournament makes up for that. They also let Junior and travel players play both HS and travel at the same time, which Michigan doesn’t. That’s why MN teams have more depth.
