Wow some of those come backers would have been brutal if it wasn't for quick reactions. Exit velocity at 98 mph coming straight back at my face? No thank you
@@partyplace15 I really wouldn't know I played hockey when I was in school. Catching a ball coming back at you is still insane though. Especially if it's coming back faster.
You’re probably not wrong, but I’m sure there’s a small part of them that’s grateful that they didn’t give the pitcher a concussion or worse with a line drive up to the mound.
I love it when infielders, and pitchers make heads up plays, seconds before the ball reaches them, and react with great reflexes, which in my book is great defense on the diamond.
I never played baseball but as a fan, you have to appreciate the reaction times these players have- especially the pitchers. They have no protection out there.
Reminds me of an incident when I was playing "over the line" on the street when I was a teenager. An older brother of one of my friends strongly disliked me and had threatened me a few times. I was pitching and he was batting. We used a softball to play this game. He told me he was going to hit the ball right at my head and "shove it right down my throat." His team was losing by one run and it was the 9th inning with his being the last out I needed. He did as promised and hit the ball very hard so it was coming directly at my face at a high rate of speed. Just like these pitchers I instinctively threw my glove up in front of my face and then moved my head to the right quickly. I caught the ball and his team lost, something they said would never happen. I can't imagine what would have happened if I hadn't acted so quickly.
But you get to prepare and see the wind up of the pitcher before tracking the ball's path. The ball comes right back at the pitcher very rarely. They aren't prepared to expect it every time like a batter. Besides, the ball comes back to the pitcher faster than the pitch. We're really talking about reactions that are in under 200ms for the pitcher.
besides, you do know that papers masks do precisely nothing to stop a virus don't you? or do you know something the manufacturers of those masks don't know?
I'm not a baseball fan, but those plays were absolutely incredible! The title of the video says it all, those balls were caught literally in the same second they were pitched. Unbelievable!
Ive had baseball hit directly from my pitch straight to me more times than I can count, and I’ve caught practically all of them. You’d be surprised how good your chances of catching it are when you take your fight or flight reactions into account.

I was a 3rd baseman in little league, high school, and college and there is a reason they call it the "hot corner". You have to have good hands, fast reflexes, a good arm and good vision...and a nut cup for sure.
I played hockey most of my life and was never concerned about getting hurt because of all the equipment we had , but when I played baseball primarily second base that ball comes fast and hard and at times it's scary because that ball can hurt you and getting in front of line shots and ground balls is not easy because alot of times the ball would take a wierd hop and hit you in the face or your head , these pitchers are very brave because that ball is coming at you hard and fast and can actually kill you if hit in the head !
What’s funny is that I think some of these weren’t even meant to be catches, but rather the pitcher just trying to cover his face and getting lucky, lol.
Strongz Z I can vividly remember how scary it was getting drilled when I played with my friends in high school. I can only imagine how terrifying it can be when that happens in the majors.
Pitcher is closer to the plate though. At least the 3rd baseman can focus on spotting where the hit is going. The pitcher is half way through his follow through and the ball is right there in his face.
