    Hello, I recently purchased this enclosure and put 2 of 1TB drives inside it in Raid-1 config formatted to EXT4. What I am curious to know is how to handle a single hdd failure. Would I be able to just pull out the failed/failing hdd and replace with a newer working hdd? will the Raid-1 rebuild and copy the data over from the good working drive?

    I don't think it can power down unless you use your HDD in your Desktop PC. This is just an enclosure for 2 External 3.5" HDD. It need at least 2A/12V to power up the 3.5" HDD externally using a power adapter/converter plugged into a socket outlet. This is the same for all External HDD enclosures. Always know what you need and read the specs of the products to see if it suitable for your own use before buying online else it usually lead to frustrations. For product quality, use the reviews as a guide

    I just bought the updated version of this which looks great. I'm not sure about using the hardware RAID though as I have no control whatsover on the process except for the switches. I'm used to using Softraid on macOS which has an app that lets you maintain the volumes. As a decent looking enclosure, this is fine, so far.

    Does this draw energy when attached to the USB all the time or only when it is accessed? I don't fancy the bill from running it 24/7 as a NAS if it doesn't power down when not accessed.

      @@czgu6398 Thats a shame. I bought the 'blueendless' dual bay raid (type C usb version) from aliexpress almost the exact same device, for about £43 to use as my own cloud server in raid 1 mode with a raspberry pi 4 connected to it and stuck a power meter on it. It drops down to 5 Watts when not accessed after 20mins. Its 20 watts when accessed with 2x 500Gb hdds. 20 watts on 24/7 is going to cost more than £40 per year at these mad energy prices.

      @@SlobberySlob There is an energy saving home NAS option. I used Raspberry PI 4B, WD 5TB EasyStore and OpenMediaVault to build a simple home NAS. It only use 5-8W. 5TB is small, but it's enough for my home use. You can connect this enclosure with big hdds to the Raspberry PI 4 and use a timer to turn it ON/OFF.

      @@chainjail4834 It's a low quality case : 1. The 2 HDD lights went off a few days after I received the case, 2. Hard drives in RAID 0 became very very slow, it took days to transfer 3TB data to or from the hard drives. That's raid failure. That's happened after months of usage. But it's still works as a two separated drive enclosure.

      @@czgu6398 Do the lights come on during first start up? Mine LEDs come on, but they turn off after like 10-15 minutes but I hear the drives working in the enclosure when the unit is being accessed. I do notice if the unit goes to suspend mode or sleep, the lights don't come back on when the unit is accessed and awoken from suspend. If the unit doesn't go to suspend in my case the unit LEDs stay on. However, I don't access it constantly during the day. I access when watching a movie/anime or accessing documents/files. I have mine set up as Raid-1 with 2 of 1TB currently. I have mine connected as a Direct connect to my Lenovo M710q Tiny home server. I get transfer rates of about 10Megabytes/s over the network. Occasionally I do see a boost in transfer speed depending on how much I am copying to/from the EC-7352. I've seen boosted speed of up to 40Megabytes/s when transferring 1TB+ file sizes.

    Avoid this enclosure, the disk goes to sleep and never wakes up.

      maybe you had a faulty unit? I have this enclosure with 2 of 1TB inside in Raid-1. Mine does suspend after like 10 min. When I access beyond 10 minutes I hear the drives spin up.

      @JohnUsp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marcc5768 There are other problems, if you open it as JBOD, and write or read to both disks at the same time, the speed won't increase. But the worst problem as I said is Losing data, and dirtying the SMART with connection errors. Reviews on Amazon confirm the same. Since data is the ultimate important, I bought a high-quality enclosure. Costs more, but I never had any problem.
